Is your 360 horizontal or vertical?

As the title says, do you lay your 360 horizontal or stand it up vertically. I only ask because a friend who works in a game store reccommends that they are positioned flat, for better heat ventilation and because the speed of the drive when vertical can scratch the discs. The 360 demo booths have them vertical because they look better that way.
 
I have mine verticle, but I've read they run better that way.
 
Verticle. I've never had a problem with the 360 in this position and I use it quite a bit. The scratching business is if you move the console while it's in action, which is more than likely when it is stood vertically. If you don't move it while it's in action, it shouldn't be a problem.
 
Flat (horizontal) since I've never kept my consoles in such a way so that the disc drive is vertical. That's just dumb if you ask me. Also, much higher chance of it tipping over if it's on vertically.
 
Theres as much chance of mine tipping over vertically, as there is horizontally where I have th PS2 and XB360.

i personally called microsoft (1-800-469-9269) and they told me it is best to have it vertical, they also told me it will over heat while laying horizontal.

for the first 3 years my PS2 was vertical until i got my fliptop and i have never had problems with it.

Not complety true, it may look better that way. But remember some of the 360's until air flow goes through the bottom of the console. I have mine horizontal, since consoles have mainly been designed to run at horizontal.

Plus my console has never over heated at all, I have had software bugs. But no hardware bugs, also the thing that causes 360's to crash is not letting the PSU get the right amount of airflow.
 
My 360 is horizontal, mainly because it fits on the shelf that way.
I've had no hardware problems what-so-ever and I've had it running for 24hrs+ before. The PSU is well ventilated as it sits alone on the bottom shelf. Probably best not to put it on carpet, as it may 'sink' into the material and possibly hamper air-flow.
 
When I get mine in a couple months it will be horizontal. When I rented it I had it horizontal. Both of our PS2 are also horizontal.
You never want them on carpet. Sucks in dust, static electricity, and any other debris from the floor.

[edit]Got my 360 and it's laying horizontal because thats where it fits. :D
 
Heather and I have our 360's in the horizontal position. I even had mine running for about 6 days straight with no problems so far. Heathers seems to freeze up when she goes online sometimes but that could be our router problem. This only happens to her when I get online at the same time. Still trying to figure this router/internet problem out.
 
Mine is running horizontal at the moment. I have considered running it vertically, but I have never ran a console vertically and have not had any real reason to do so with the 360. Space is not an issue at the moment with how I have placed my 360, so I could do either horizontal or vertical.
