Or rather issues when I finish charging, I disconnect the USB cable and the controller goes dead, I get all four buttons flashing on the front but can't assign the controller with any amount of mashing the PS button or X or whatever.

This used to happen a little when I first got the game but seems to have got worse over time. It might be because I am a relative PS3 noob and have pretty much only been playing GT5 since I got the console, perhaps I am missing a trick?

Only cure is to reconnect the cable (not ideal obviously) or turn the console off, then switch it back on with the controller.

Anyone else had similar problems?

I had this. It was really weird, it wouldn't sync/charge like last month on gt5. To some extent, I am an idiot, and I threw it against the wall. But it works now! I don't think the slam fixed it, but it just seemed to work. All I can say is to keep it attached to the USB, spam the ps button, and rage at it physically. Thats what helped for me :D

Well mine seems to charge ok (though doesn't always warn me when I need to charge) but as soon as I disconnect the cable, it won't assign, the four lights just keep flashing no matter what I press. At first I thought it might be because I have a silicone skin on my controller that covers the lights up, but wireless control works fine the rest of the time so it can't be that. If it was infra red perhaps that would be the reason.

Thats what happened to mine. Then over time it developed into the above problem. Now, it is oddly perfectly fine...

i dont think its gt5, this used to happen to my controller on anything. it would work when connected via usb a.k.a charging, but as soon as you unplugged it it would just flash and not sync.

funnily enough when the ps3 was off pressing the ps button on the controller would turn the ps3 on but it would not sync and ud be left with a ps3 running and no controller sync

I fixed it by opening the controller unplugging the battery and plugging it back in.

Same here. I also didn't have a problem with it until GT5, though, so I'm wondering if something is up in that regard.
