F you are a true muscle car enthusiast and love muscle as for there main purpose of drag racing then you will agree they shouldn't be drifted.

Why is this a thing that matters?

Well they can't turn so drag racing is the only option

Um...Looks good to me! If it has wheels why not drift it?

Don't know if this really belongs in the GT5 section, maybe in here https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=7 where all the talk about cars in general goes, or maybe one of the other countless threads that discuss drifting :dunce:.

However I'll add my 2 cents,
A muscle car is a (generally) FR body with a large displacement engine, it doesn't matter in which manner it's driven. The only musclecars that were 'built' for drag racing are the drag packs that were available on some of them.

Pretty sure the Duke boys used to 'drift' the general all the time. Maybe its rather you don't think the drifting scene and the people in it mix with muscle cars.:sly:

Me I'm not into drifting at all, but I can see the skill involved. I am into muscle cars however and whilst these types of cars are generally not known for there handling there are a few exceptions.

Edit: HumanDestroyah beat me to it:tup:

I think driving a muscle car in the rain can count as drifting.

@ Broncos

Yeah, what is Team Falken thinking. Muscle cars shouldn't turn.

There is no set way for any car to be used.

I'm a muscle car fan,
and I would rather see one drifting than drag racing.
To me drag racing is one of the more pointless motor sports. IMO

Lol ya drag is just go straight and mainly comes down to big power. Drifting or racing you can have lots of different factors PLUS have to worry about best time to shift. I think muscle cars for drift are awesome as since they do have so much torque they get the tires smoking real quick. I'm more surprised that people who like drag don't like drifting muscle cars since there is tons of smoke and screeching

My 700hp mustang loves a drift, even on racing tyres

Actually, they can (search youtube). :D

I like the muscle cars, and the 1969 Z28 Camaro is a good circuit/street race car. So, are several of the other muscle cars.

I don't like racing them around the Daytona Super Speedway, but I do it sometimes just to get some online races in these cars.

+1 drag racing is one of the most boring things you can do. i dont understand why people love it so much. hardly racing is ti lol. id rather drift than drag any day of the week

Muscles cars have lots of power, shorter gear ratios, and they are almost always rear wheel drive. That sounds a lot like a drift car to me.

This. Make the car do what you want it to do, not what you perceive as what "it should only do."

👍

That was actually the best episode they have aired. IMHO.

Thats why he said it because he just watched that episode.

Why is this a thing that matters?

If it had to matter to deserve a thread, this whole section would be empty.

This topic is similar to the "Nascar is boring, only go left" theme. Drag racing is much more than awesome power. Ever hear of reaction time? Clutch tuning? Downforce? How about attempting to tune an engine of which the crankshaft twists upwards of 20 degrees in less than 4 seconds. Not only tuning spark and fuel delivery, but valve timing too. And as with most other motor sports, track conditions, humidity, air density etc play vital roles. Not to mention the effect upwards of 5 g's has on equipment and drivers.

In my opinion, drags, drifting, F1, rally, endurance, off road, if it's motorized competition, it's good!! :)

And to the op: those "old" muscle cars are what evolved into todays machines. Without those old lead sleds, there would not be motorsports as we know them today.

i wanna put some nissan engine under mustang hood ;) Then it would go slide ways were fast on drag line ;)

I'm a purist, so as far as drifting goes, I like to keep it strictly JDM. But, that's just me.

Not sure is OP is trolling.

Most muscle cars powerslide out of the showroom. You don't put that much power through the rear tyres and not get a little sideways. Drifting is just controlled oversteer so in a sense, it's right that muscle cars are used for drifting.

In real life sure, I'd say you shouldn't drift a classic muscle car because eventually you're going to crash and that's one less classic muscle car driving around. In GT5, who cares? There's an infinite number of them so you don't lose anything if someone decides to drift their '69 Camaro.

Generally threads in this section amount to more than reactionary "that's wrong and I'm offended by it" ideas. I wasn't asking why the thread was made. I was asking why the OP cared.

@Tornado. Give it one more page before the referees have to step in.

So, are we talking about real life, or Gt5?
Either way, I don't care about drifting.

Isnt a Mercedes Benz C AMG counted as "European" muscle car also, dang that thing loves to drift even as stock.
Most muscle cars I've used in GT5, loves to spin rear tires and go sideways, gotta love it how they have so much torgue.
I remember seeing Fifth Gear Episode about two-decker bus do drift, so I think every car could be used if the user wants to use it on drifting.
tho would be fun to see a F1 car do drifting what anyone isnt expecting it to do, right ?

I don't like "drift racing" anyway.

But those cars will slide as a matter of course.
