If you did do another about turn and went for a 300 touring, don't get it in black. It looks like a hearse in a PT Cruiser kinda way.

We wouldn't but it in black anyway, it's too hard to keep clean.

Heh, we're looking at a S-Type Diesel now. Before you say "I thought you said we liked the X-Type better", Dad confessed that the seat was in the wrong position, the interior was drab and such and 1 had the sports suspension. For me, it was on a rainy day, thus making more road noise, so it completely threw us. Because of this we're looking at it again, a bonus being it has similar interior as our car.

There is one in Southampton near us, for £23,495, just within our price range, 9,000 miles, SE in a light silvery blue, so we're going to look at it tomorrow if it's still on sale.

We're MILLIMETERS away from buying it. Dad admited he had no idea why he disliked the car so much before. It was quieter, the engine amazingly so, even quieter than what we have now even when you push it, a lot smoother and more comfortable. We got offered £8,500 for our car, which I think is fantastic and has put us JUST in the budget we're aiming at. We're just deciding now whether that money should truely be put in a car or go towards something else. We may push for £9,000 a £500 discount on the S-Type itself or for added goodies like paint protector to make ourselves completely happy if we ever decide to go back. I'll keep you updated.

We've just purchased an S-Type! Well, put a deposit on it. We're only getting it if they get rid of that knocking noise that Dad heard over bumps, which I didn't really personally hear.

We said "no" to getting it this morning, because she offered £1k more than expected which didn't make any sense. Dad said "no" and left it at that. 2 hours later, the salewoman had rung back again, and said she'll up the value of our car another grand, except we pay for the tax disc too. Dad thought all afternoon about this and rung her just now, and said "yes", and the tax disc too? She said no because you're getting the deal of a life time (which I find pretty honest )!

Here is the car. It says it's £24,999 there, but they dropped it £1000 because the car was on sale for 3 weeks, so that makes the deal even better. The car is 1 1/2 years old and almost 14,000 miles on it, full sat nav/touchscreen, leather (they say part-leather but everywhere I looked was leather, so they must be wrong), and all the other standard goodies you get on the SE model.

:p

Lucky S.O.B ;)

It looks really good :) I'm guessing it's an 05 plate then?

54 plate. Amazingly, the car was registered on the 31/12/04, which is an odd time to buy a car...

Looks real nice James 👍

Congrats to you and your family.

Looks good 👍

Its the same colour as my dad's X-Type diesel estate!

G.T.:

Isn't that the model you had before or was it the X-Type with the V6, 'cause they both look quite the same :dunce:

They probably are not the same ;)

Yep, at the moment we have the X-Type V6, similar to this but dark blue:

We should be picking up the car next weekend, not this one coming as we need to give time for the bank to take out the money for the car. The thing is, for the last few car purchases we've had, during this waiting time our cars have always gone wrong or are damaged on some way, like the Voyager's air-con packed up, the Multipla had a slight knock on the bumper and many years ago our Scenic had a serious knock. Twice. The result of this luck is we're banning ourselves from using our car until the pick up.

Your dad will probably be the third keeper then, as I would expect it's a pre-registered model. Not that there's any shame in that: if you can find one in your spec, it's a great way to save quite a lot of money.

Aaaand the conclusion:

We've just got the car today, and I seriously love it. I sat in the front, and it's a mile better than anything I've ever sat in. It IS like a lounge. Mum's going to be given a hard time because she mainly sits there. Everything else is good too - it's smoother, a mile quieter but a bit more wind noise probably because there's no much less road noise. Everything has taken a leap in quality, the armrests to the dash. There are no rattles either, which is amazing because I've always had AT LEAST one in a car.

We're going out for a drive tonight. I'm so looking forward to it. :D

And yes, the car is an ex-demo, which explains the car getting registered at that time. It was then sold on, then sold on again to us, so really we're the third owners. It doesn't matter, the X-Type had 3 previous owners!

I think you should take the S Type back and demand your dad walks everywhere instead.

You know, Dad has thought about cycling to work, so we aren't THAT enviormentaly bad. :p

Famine
I KNOW! I know... :guilty:

Just one little quirk we have with it is when the fuel tank is full, it makes sloshing noises over bumps in the road at very slow speeds. It goes when it's emptied a bit.

And lastly, not even a new XK or even a Ferrari in the car park there amused me more than this at the main enterance... :D

Yeah, it's a well known fact that thinking about saving the planet actually does it.

;)
