As some of you know, I've been in the works of moving to London, Kentucky now since February when my step-dad got a job there. Once he was given the offer after a series of interviews, we had two weeks before we had to be living down there. During this period of time, I was fortunate enough to have the option of either living with my grandparents and finishing out the school year, or moving down immediately. I chose to stay with my grandparents and knock out my Freshman year. Now I'm only a week away from making the final move. Needless to say I'm very anxious, and worried about how I'll do.
Let me give you a tiny glimps into my family. About 90% of them are already and have been living in Kentucky. How did we end up in Ohio? My grandparents moved to Ohio from Kentucky when they got married. Although my grandfather had already been living in Ohio since he was 10 (you guessed it, moved from Kentucky). He was in the army, landed in Kentucky to meet his family, and met my grandmother. Well, I love Kentucky to death. I love visiting our family there, and just the life style. During a family reunion back in early September, I looked out to the Appalachian mountains while walking with my cousin to his house. Casually I said "I'd love to live here some day." WHAM!
Here I am. I guess God hears us a little more clearly than we think. In fact, I think he takes our dreams and wishes a heck of a lot more seriously than we do.
"What's the problem if you like it down there?" you may ask? PRESSURE. See, my step-dad is well respected in his career field. My parents in general are very well liked. In a sense I feel a bit pressured to do everything perfectly. Of course that is not what my parents are asking of me. They just hope I do well and like it down there. I'm a good kid so it's not stupid mistakes I'm worried about. Maybe I'm scared I won't be liked? I don't know. I've also been doing extremely well in school this year. Lots of terrific things have been happening for me, especially in ROTC. Luckily they have Air Force ROTC down there as well, so I'm very relieved about that. I hope I'll do equally as well down there.
I also don't know that many people. All the people I know work for my dad, which is fine. The guys I work with are real nice and I'll be at the same high school as them, but I probably will never see them there. I realize though that this stuff takes time, so I'm not going to rush it. I'll be visiting there this Wedsenday for specific reasons but also to drop some of my stuff off at the house. Then it's back to Ohio, and then down to Kentucky for good. I will be visiting Ohio once a month though, which is nice.
I'm scared.
Any advice?
