Did anyone ever sit down and think, did PD really intend the "gift" feature to be used to trade cars, duplicate cars etc?

I personally believe it was there so people could "give" cars to other people they play with, and PD I am sure wants each person to work through the game to earn things, not to go onto an internet forums marketplace to arrange duplications and trades.

That is why they did the update IMO, I am not even sure they wanted trades to ever happen. If they wanted people to trade they would have included a real marketplace for trading cars, not a "gift" feature.

Doubt they just meant "Gift". If they REALLY wanted that they would have given a time bracket after becoming friends until you could trade.

Fact is, the games pretty nice how it is with the trading. Gives somethig else added to the game. I mean PD definately didnt intend to make a full on trading system, but they knew it would happen and most definately did not plan to stop it.

I think an online traders market would actually be another fun thing for the game, but thats a decent amount of content to add.

Me.
I never traded, never duped.
I got the following cars as GIFTS from friends:
Formula GT;
Toyota 7 Race Car;
Suzuki Escudo;
Pagani Zonda R;
Mercedes CLK DTM;
Red Bull X2010 Prototype (carbon).

I have good friends. ¬________¬

Yea I have used the marketplace here before, and I have traded people before, but I am not mad at PD for doing what they did. I personally think we just found a way to use their gift feature to trade in a marketplace, now they put a stop to trading the high priced cars, no reason to be up in arms like everyone is right now.

I have to admit I'm kinda sad that you can't trade high dollar cars anymore as it IS nice to be able to trade one high dollar car for another.

Unfortunately however the cheaters have beaten it to death by duping X2010s and giving them out to the world. They ruined it for everyone else.

But eh.. thats the way it is what can you do. And if it keeps every day 1 player form having an X2010 among other high end super fast cars that they just screw up rooms with online? Probably for the better of everyone.

I have actually "gifted" people cars (for birthdays etc.)

They knew that duplication and trading would happen, so why didn't they implement this prohibitation of cars over 1M being gifted from the start? It's far too late now, if they honestly were trying to stop duping/x2010's being obtained without completing the challenge then they would have simply stopped that from the start.

Allowing this thread, but hoping that it doesn't turn into an anti-duping rant. It's not a new topic, but not an exact duplicate (so far as I can see) and it's timely.

Personally, I think the fact that PD have referred to it as "trading" means that they are aware of how it's being used, and the specific restrictions are in response to possible exploits.

I also believe that the fact that they refer to it as "trading" means that they may possibly be looking at revamping the gifting system to actually allow trading and actual car-swapping.

Which would make me ecstatic, as that would allow us to completely shut down the Trader Feedback thread and not have to deal with claims of scamming. (which may be another of the issues that this update was meant to address... albeit temporarily)

PD have no right to interfere with the way people have been playing the game for the last two months, maybe if they actually made updates that were worthwhile and added something of use to the game then people wouldn't be bothered so much.

We expected new seasonal events this week but what do we get instead? A car gifting/trading cap that only succeeds in pissing off a large percentage of GT5 owners.

PD = Muppets. From top to bottom.

i think a lot of people are mad because they just now decided to stop trading when it should of been in place from the start. but now they let it go on so long before stopping it, that the newer players are at a disadvantage

It wasnt there to be used they just thought no one would think of doing something like this and using it to their advantage some people know technology that well just like iphone jailbreaking apple didnt mean to make the iphone with that feature and neither did Poliphony

Please... no insults in here... not even directed at people not present (i.e.: PD).

They have every right to tweak an online system that they are providing to us, the users, free of charge.

We paid for use of the game itself, i.e.: the offline portion. What we're not paying for is continuous use of the online portion via PSN, which obviously costs a lot to keep running. Thus, anything therein can be considered a bonus.

It's quite unfair to those who've lent out cars right before the ban/cap... but really... PD have every right to fix/restrict/tweak/remove/reinstate a service that they're running for players for free.

We paid for the game with advertised features of gifting and online racing. They are at liberty to provide users with what they advertised.

I'm a little dissapointed by this since I've started gifting myself one car a day from a 2nd account that I don't play, but makes money from me remote racing the drivers. Looks like I'll just have to limit myself to the cheaper cars.

The guys that had gifted expensive cars (on loan) to their friends for legitimate racing can't be happy about having no warning about this.

And we still have gifting. They've simply changed the mechanics.

It's a stupid change (opinion), but it doesn't negate the fact that gifting is still possible.

Anyway... I'm hoping the next update fixes things, one way or the other.

I hope you're right, I really do hope so..
*Hopes for an online auction house of sorts*

From gran-turismo.com
- Cars worth over 1,000,000 Cr. (Including those in a gift car ticket form) are now prohibited from being traded to prevent issues during the trading process. When lending and borrowing cars between friends, please utilise the car loan system.

This should never have gone through quality control, but since it did Sony answered your question forever.

Yep that's why they called it GIFT. Screw these traders, who cares! It's second to the game if anything! Go collect beer mats or something!

Doubt they just meant "Gift".

Yes, they meant "gift" as in "you give me a car and expect nothing in return". A "trade" would be quid pro quo, meaning that you don't just simply give me a car with the expectation that you eventually might get one back but we actually swap simultaneously. When you go to the store and buy something, you trade money right there (check, debit, or credit count) for the the item you're wanting; that's a trade. If you went to Walmart and they simply handed you the item without you handing them any money in exchange, that's a gift.

Had Polyphony intended it to be a trade system, I don't get the car from you until I simultaneously give you something in return, whether it be another car or perhaps credits.

...should of been

I apologize for this, but I have to explain something here. "Should of" is improper grammar. When you say that, you're incorrectly repeating something you've heard other people say. What you're hearing, providing that the person you're listening to isn't also making the same mistake and also saying it wrong, is "should've", which is a contraction of "should have". I can see how it sounds like "should of", but it isn't "should of".

Same ****, another GT5-player... :yuck:

You´re right and when you´re right, you´re right... :)

I AM NOT HAPPY and it´s friday for God´s sake, I should be VERY happy by now...:grumpy:👎

Ok will this sucks for me. My past save data got corrupted (game still loads but I cannot load a race) and I had many legitimately purchased cars of very high value (787B, 908i, Veyron, etc). I was in the process of trading my car collection back to myself, but that is now impossible. I personally think that $1m is WAY too low a number. Truly rare cars are in the $10-20m range. This eliminates a TON of cars in the used car lot. Also PD should have given us a heads up that this was going to happen, especially since they were obviously aware of trading.

They should put the cap at $5m, limit >$5m gifts to 1 per month. Or better yet make an actual trading system.

.

There's some word that's called, loophole. :D
For 'dupe' part, i agree with you. But for the 'trade' part. I'm not.
And i'm not happy with the new update but well, what can i change.
Just go with the flow~
