Are you kidding?
Hmmm.... Interesting stuff. MG appears to be in moderate peril, despite building some of the best budget sports cars around.
Apparently sales have slumped. They are having to rebadge Tata Indica's as new metros (well, the rover arm anyway) and many journalists reckon the sv is one of the ugliest cars ever seen! Pull your socks up MG!

The SV? Do you mean the StreetWise?

I'm really not at all surprised. MG have singularly failed to bring any new cars to market, even though some of their current range are in desperate need of replacement. Frankly, the 45 series is far too old, being a carbon copy of the 1992 Honda Civic. Lest we forget, the Civic has gone through one major revision, and one replacement with an all-new model since then.

It's time they stopped ****ing around with special editions and buying up and rebadging dodgy cars that can't make it to market on their own.

ok, my mistake, I didn't say the full name. It's the xpower sv:

But the streetwise is awful!

Rover call it a "Unique On-Roader"...:odd: go figure!

Erm...Perhaps no-one at mg-rover HAS a 45...

And the streetwise pic didn't work. Oops. Here goes:

Ahh.. What the h3ll.. I'll take one 👍

850bhp...
0-60 4.1secs...

Why not have two?

And you people complain loudly and frequently that Americans have no taste...

I said the american cars generally weren't SUBTLE. I think I might pay homage to some of the best!:)

But neon, If the subject is changing to tastelessness...

Are you kidding? That Suburban is about as tasteful as I've ever seen one be. Normally they're much worse.

And that Pontiac concept will never make it into production without at least 8 more holes in the front, some pointless lumps in the hood, and a set of stick on parallel ridges down the sides.

But at least it started off well, unlike that MG monstrosity.

A suburban?:OOops, I thought it was a Tahoe. My mistake (again!)

Anyway, the topic appears to have mooved on, back to rover.

So which is the worst Rover/MG? My vote goes to the Rover 200

I much prefer the understated styling of VW, BMW, Audi, and what the hell, I'll even throw Nissan in there for good measure. I think that SV has alot of unnecessary vents and wings that I could do without, I think neon_duke would agree with me here.;)

I'll leave that as an excercise for the student. ;)

Oh, so many to choose from? Would we go for the undiluted hairdresser's car the MGF/MG TF? With it's Austin Allegro rear suspension?

Would we go for the 25, which is, in many guises, utterly gutless and guileless?

Would we go for the 45? Which is as old as most of the people driving it (i.e. ancient).

Or the 75? One of the ugliest and worst-made cars ever in the history of the world.

It's a tough one.

I would have to say that the "ZT" (i.e. tarted-up 75), with its tacky spoilers and irritant colours, is their worst. Oh, sorry, forgot, there's the Streetwise. That wins it for me.

I'm not surprised they're struggling. "With effort comes reward", my father used to say. Where's their effort?

Well, It IS as streetwise as, say, a beige, tartan metro!

Oh what a coincidence...

I think thats about as streetwise as rover get unfortunately.:(

A burbery Metro!!! What a looser!
Notice that his front left tyre is deflated. Some one probably slashed it. I know I would!

It's hard to develop new cars when you are essentially penniless and losing money. FWIW the motoring press have given generally good reviews to the MG Z's, most recently the ZT V8 in Autocar last week. Notably absent were the tacky spoilers of the junior versions. They compared it reasonably favourably with a BMW M5 anyway. But the CityRover and Streetwise do look awful.

Sorry, but you just CAN'T compare it to an M5

Why not? It's a four seater sports saloon with a V8 engine - oh and happens to be pots and pots of cash cheaper. You may laugh, but MG Rover are targetting M5 drivers with this ZT. And if a respected magazine like Autocar sees fit to make the comparison, that's fine by me - it's good to see that they are not totally obsessed with German badges. They did say that although it wasn't perfect, it was a welcome return to the sort of car where you get in and actually have a laugh driving - I wonder how many electronic driver aids the new M5 will have?

And while I'm here - am I alone in thinking that MG are being pretty brave with the SV? Again, it's been reviewed as having some flaws but being a hoot to drive. I think it's cool that while Merc, BMW etc. are making everything electronic and idiot-proof to drive, MG Rover go in the opposite direction and offer factory-fitted nitrous kits! Whether you like the product or not, they are not slavishly following the crowd but trying to be a bit different, and they deserve some praise for that at least.

I was about prestige, through a biased opinion.

That part is true enough, and with it will probably come build quality, reliability, residual values etc. But BMW are losing the plot with their styling (with the possible exception of the Z4 and 1-series), and by all accounts the latest 5-series isn't as good to drive as it's immediate predecessor. I've heard from a number of places that the ride isn't as good, neither is the handling, and that it is mainly down to the Dynamic Drive system and the run-flat tyres.

The MGF is the biggest selling sports car in the UK. I think.
I dont mind the ZT. I admit it doesn't look different, but I isn't ugly either. But sadly i wouldn't buy one as it failed the Top Gear Time test. It did much slower that the M5 and other cars in that categorie, so they hated it aswell.
