This review will constantly be updated as i progress and find out more, ive had a few hours playing so heres what i think.
Well, you start up and you get the usual licensing bits, and then you will have to brace yourself for one of the most spectacular intro sequences you will see this year, maybe ever, it have reason to beleive it is showing what PS3 could look like in game, but the music is dam funky to go with it and its a very nice well done intro.
First, your profile, you fill in your first second and short names, choose nationality, and then you can use either eye toy or you can just choose a head, i dont have eye toy so i chose my own head..
So, from there i went straight into race weekend, had a look at the car select, and its nice, the teams cars are arranged in their garages and you select your team then you choose the drivers car. The track select is also nice, a big world map with little dots where each track is. i then went to race options where you can choose length etc, i went 20% race length, with dynamic fuel, so that the fuel rate and tyre wear goes with how long the race is so you WILL have to pit in during the race no matter how short or long. also new driving aids are there, steering, braking etc i turned all except ABS off.
So, did some practice laps and the car feels much more, there, than in 04, much more weighty feel, and as the tyres warm you can feel them change in the handling.
So i then hit the qualifying, i had 2 bad sessions dropping me in at last place (
) and went on to start the race.
And, finally! there is race build up, more tension, instead of, there, your racing it, oo, grid girls!, media!!, mechanics!!!!, the cars even have their little tyre warmers on and the little barrier things around them, after you look at the lineup on the screen you see some more grid build up and then you start the race.
Now in 04, you could make up a lot of places, sometimes 10 maybe more, i started 20th and by turn 1, i was, well, 20th, just, neck and neck with karthikeyan.
The race handling felt great and as my 5 laps of fuel went down the car felt faster and lighter, after hard racing i was 10th going onto my 5th lap, bearning in mind that cars ahead had been pitting, lap 5 was my turn, i followed villeneuve into the pits not knowing what to expect from the interactive stop, all it is, is a button combo, a bit like a dancing game with the X [] O and /_\ buttons, i only remember using [] and O though so.
After a quick stop and a mistake in turn one i was 17th, next few laps where normal and then i started moving up as the 2 stoppers went in, i moved up to 13th but quickly dropped to 14th as it is near impossible to hold off raikkonen in a mere red bull cosworth
, the commentators said that webber had retired due to an accident and as i came round turn 6 mark webbers stricken car was on the inside of the turn, missing a wheel, awsome, the AI make mistakes! Lap later, friesacher engine blew going into turn 7, the oil flags where out indicating spilt oil and to take care, but me thinking, yah they say that too scare you took the corner as i normally would, Red bull racing cosworth meet the gravel and also meet the view of the circuit in the wrong direction, yep, i spun, spinning was an impossibility in F1 04 with TCS on, but i spun on oil in F1 2005, got back on track, klien up behind me and battled to the finish for 14th.
This was an 11 lap race and was fantastic, this is hands down the best F1 game since F1 1997.
Graphics: spot on, great looking cars and tracks. 9/10
Sound: perfect, specially on replays, close your eyes and its real: 10/10
Longetivity: Forever, if there was no other F1 games in the future: 9/10
Gameplay: Wonderful, plays how you would expect an F1 game to: 10/10
