I've been pulling my hair out over this, and Google is about as helpful as a tree. But, iTunes has decided to become the latest of my problems. The program has now, out of the blue, decided to not run. And by not run, I mean completely freeze up my computer. Nothing runs. I leave the computer alone for 2 hours, and it's still locked up.

Apple support is worthless. I've tried support twice, and they both only say I should uninstall, and then reinstall the program. I've done that a dozen times, give me something useful, d*mmit.

I've uninstalled it, reinstalled it, deleted every trace of it, and even tried my backup of it on my external hd. No luck. There's 1 last thing I have yet to try. If it doesn't work, I'm going to have to try some other form of putting music or whatever on my iTouch, or go through a fresh install of my OS.

37 views, and no one has any ideas? Figures, I guess. I found 2 other people stating the exact same problem and no one had an answer.

Guess I'll have to reformat this whole thing if I ever want to put music on my iTouch again. :grumpy:

I honestly have no idea... iTunes rarely, if ever, gives me serious problems. Seems like most of the mainstream media players are full of fail these days, but meh, it happens. When iTunes freezes up on my Vista machine I usually do a CTL+DEL and shut down any programs that may be connected to it, restart, and it usually works.

I'd love to do that, but it completely kills everything.

And now, ironically, I've been able to get it working again by copying my backup folder from my External HD over the other folder....

Well... if it makes you feel any better my desktop decided to just not recognize my touch so using iTunes is pointless. I'd say head to an ipod forum like iLounge and try there, People will have definitely encountered this problem but it might not be quite the same as yours.

Good Luck.

oh and iTunes FTW...!

Maybe you had a corrupted .bin or something.

Maybe you had a corrupted .bin or something.
If so, it's magically corrupt again. The whole program refuses to work again. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the iTunesHelper.exe.

Either way, I'm going to ask the iLounge, and if they have no answerers, I'm just doing a reformat. I'm not going to spend another 2 hours to end up finding a random solution that doesn't work again. It's only frustrated me and caused my hand to take a cut.

Have you installed any combo codec packs? with say an older version of quicktime? (Ace Mega/K-Lite/etc...). That's the only time iTunes has ever refused to run is if I installed a codec pack like that. the only way around it is to uninstall the codec pack, uninstall iTunes, reinstall iTunes, and reinstall the codec pack but deselecting anything quicktime related in the pack when reinstalling.

edit: The iTunes helper just keeps file associations, and enables the taskbar quickplayer, there is nothing wrong with it.

No, I haven't installed any combo codec packs.

Some people have said to resort back to an older iTunes. That's what I've been doing as I run 7.5.

As in uninstall iTunes? I have done that quite a few times now.

When I had managed to get it working the previous 2 times, it had been through erasing all Apple folders and such. Then, installing the latest iTunes, and then copying my backup folder of 7.5 over 7.6. Doesn't work now.

Oh... ok. Dunno then, it pains me to reformat, but I guess if you want iTunes that bad it's the option you're going to have to head towards soon.

I came across a similar issue a few months ago. Uninstalling all Apple products (Quicktime and iTunes in my case), AND all the folders it leaves behind after the uninstall, then rebooting, then reinstalling both actually stopped the program from freezing on loadup.

It sounds as if this isn't working for you, so I don't know what else to suggest...

Well, I may try your's as it turns out I did not completely delete everything Apple. I will, though, this time.

I already have the latter.

But I need iTunes for adding music, not to play or buy it.
Actually, you could try Media Monkey for now.
I've been thinking about it. I haven't found anything that seems to give me a solid answer if I'm able to add music to my iTouch without iTunes, and I'm hoping Floola or Media Monkey can.

I almost tried it until I got iBoons working on my Laptop, here's to hoping it doesn't get [censored] up... xD

Screw iTunes.. get Floola and Limewi.... *ahem*... I mean...

Limewire sucks! Use torrents or music blogs to get your stuff....... :P
Actually, using Floola is better for arranging music than iTunes, but in the end I still ended up using iTunes.... :guilty: Don't know why, but iTunes seems to have a better interface and function as a media player for my iPod. :dopey:

But *McLaren*, does this happens every time you plug in your iPhone? Or does it happen by itself? If it was the first, than maybe your iPhone is corrupting your iTunes file. If it was the second, then I have no clue. :dunce: But maybe you have an application and/or software that corrupts your iTunes files when it is running. Have you installed anything else other than iTunes lately?

I don't plug in my iTouch until iTunes is open so it can recognize it. So no, the iPod is never plugged in when it happens. The only thing I've installed are is just a mod for GTR2 that didn't have any effect on iTunes.

Oh, well thats not what I thought at all. :dunce: So do you usually open your iTunes first before plugging in your iPhone? The I did mine was I usually plug in my iPod first, and wait for the PC to detect my iPod and then iTunes will appear and read all my music in my library. As for the GTR2 mod, did your iTunes crash before you install the mod?

I turned that feature off, and right now, I'm more or less glad I did. I actually installed the mod after the first 2 lock ups.

Yeah, I use the internet, not Limewire.

Anyway, get Floola. Personally, I found it much easier to use and more functional than iTunes. It also looks more like a Windows application and lags less on this crappy laptop. I don't know what an iTouch is, but it should work with an iPod Touch, if that's what it is. However, I've never had the fortune to test that.

Well, to update, still no fix. I tried Floola and Media Monkey, and neither work. Floola's site tells me I need to open iTunes to get it to correctly recognize the iPod. Wow, just 1 problem with that.

Media Monkey is just bad. I installed it as the site directs, and yet, it always becomes "Not Responding". Their support said I did not install it right, and that I should try again. I don't see how I installed it wrong when it's merely a step-by-step process.

Either way, I'm going to try Apple support again.

Okay then, I have no idea whats wrong with your computer. Sorry if I didn't help much. :guilty: Then the only way of fixing the problem would be either upgrade your softwares and/or pc. Looks like you have a problem with using Floola and Media Monkey, maybe you can check out the lists on Wikipedia and see which works.

I'm just gonna take a final guess and ask you, your PC freeze when you run iTunes, am I right? It maybe that your computer had too many applications running and that iTunes uses a lot of memory for your pc. Just try to close all the applications running on your pc and just open your iTunes only. I think this has happened to me once, but I don't really know how I fix it...... :dunce:

I've read that the latest iTunes version was very unstable, but I do not know if that issue has been fixed yet.

What version are you using? If you are running the newest version, have you tried an older version already? What about an uninstall of everything of iTunes, backup all your music in your external HD, then remove all your music from your laptop. Get an older iTunes version, and copy your music back into your laptop, having a fresh iTunes install with a fresh library to copy. Tried that?

Other than this, I have got no idea what could be done...
