I've got a DFP question...

Alright, I haven't really introduced myself or anything like that but I have been a GT nut since 2000. I even bought the PS2/GT3 bundle. Anywho, on to the question... I just bought the DFP last night, it's a night and day difference and you guys helped me decied to buy it. After playing a few hours and basically having to learn how to drive all over again I got frustrated, came on the forums and saw to change the setting to Pro. I did, and 24hours later it's much better than the beginner setting but I find my wheel doing odd things. Example, sometimes if I do something my wheel will for no reason start to move itself left and right quite fast. It won't turn from lock to lock, just move left and right before it gets where the force feedback sets in. One other thing that is strange, I find it sometimes hard to keep a car going straight. The wheel wants to act like its on a slalom course. I try to counter steer it but it seems helpless so I end up just forcing the wheel not to move...but by the time I do that, I'm at the end of the straightaway!:banghead:/ It's beggining to get frustraiting, and esspecially since I have put 3-4 good hours into it and I still can't get where I want (having a hell of a time on the 2nd Pro FF race, and I thought I'd try to go all gold for at least the A and B liscense, but I got stuck at the FR turn test on the B Liscense). Any and all help is welcome, thanks in advanced. :)

Do you think going 120 the wheel is going to stay still in a real car?

Everything is quite normal. Just keep your grip and race, you'll get used to it.

That's the force feedback, it moves left and right, it's your job to control the wheel, it's actually simlulating the forces of driving at that speed.

Goto your Options Screen> Wheel Settings> Select one of the Beginner|Amateur|Pro|Simulation|.

Also, calibrate it below.

That I can understand, but the wheel moving on it's own while at a stand still shouldn't be expected, am I right?

Mine does that. Just touch it, and it'll stop. Its the force feedback itself also.

There seems to be a lot of steering wheel quiestions, particularly DFP. I personally don't think it should should be in the GT3 forum. Maybe a new forum should be made dedicated to steering wheels. Just a thought...

Alright...bit of an update.

About 5 mins ago I was playing that damned race (Pro FF: Rome). I had been reading tuning guides, tips and tutorials all day from this site and others linked from this site..I read them, acted accordingly and about 30 minutes ago I finally had tuned my HITR perfectly to my liking (even made a 1:19.814 lap on Mid-Field Raceway :) ). So, I was going to try the race with the new set up...it rocked, the only thing I could complain about was the 1-3 gears were practically useless since it was burning rubber all the way through them. On to the problem though... I was on the 8th lap, the TRD Celica was begind me by at least 2 secs, then the wheel went ape****. It practically locked up on me. Force feedback held the wheel to the left, the gas would stay down even the the pedel was not being pushed and it was burning out in 4th gear, which it never did and I was foced to restart my PS2 since I could not pause or correct the problem. Could it have been that I've left the game on too long? I don't believe I did, and the wheel wasn't hot, niether was the PS2. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I take the wheel back and get another? (I bought it on Thursday, I have till this coming Thursday to get a full refund, or maybe a replacement but I am not sure other than a 7 day limit for a return)

That happened to me a couple times. Kind of agravating. I don't know exactly why, but I think it's because of a lose USB connector. You can replug the wheel to solve it.

I can replug in game to correct it? Grr...that chaps my ass...I had about 3-5 hours of unsaved gaming lost. No races I have to do over except renter the settings (which I'm having trouble finding the site to) and try to do that race again. Other than that thanks a bunch for the quick tip. :)

Yeah, mine did something similar as well. On several occasions (I do use it alot).

Like the gas pedal stops functioning, but is still full throttle in the game, and the wheel goes limp.

I've also noticed when you are at a stand-still, the wheel jitters from side to side when it's centered, as if it is bouncing off each side of the force feedback.

One would think such an expensive item bearing the GT logo would be free of flaws as such.

*sigh*

I agree, maybe and very hopefully these problems will somehow be solved come time for GT4...after all, this wheel was made for it..not for GT3 so these may be some sort of bugs. But still, I could buy this wheel or 3 brand new games/a PS2/ or an Xbox for this price and it isn't perfect? C'mon...

Double post...woops.

I'm just gonna wait a bit and phone Logitech customer service.

They're really good with this kinda stuff.

I bought an $85 MX500 mouse and it was kinda jitting out and they sent me a brand new mouse.

Maybe they will make a new version of the wheel if enough people complain, then I'll complain and get a free one...
