of all of these people bashing Microsoft saying "I can't stand Microsoft!"

I'm not here to support big M, but I'm here to say this:

What OS are you running?
Win95?
98?
98SE?
ME?
NT/NT4.0?
2k?
XP?

If so, then SHUT UP YOU D@MN HYPOCRITES!

Even if you claim you got your Microsoft OS via Warez or a burnt CD, or from a friend, MS still got that money for selling that one CD. So you're contributing to the MS donation pot.
Way to get around that:

1) Get an Apple computer(which I don't use because:
1a) They don't allow enough space for expansion
2a) If you want an Apple that you can add things to, they cost at least $2k)

2) Get Linux(which I support)

Many of the Linux OS's are free, and all you need to do is download the ISO's and burn them. Don't have a burner? Have a friend burn them! If you don't have Broadband anywhere around you and nobody can stay on long enough to download a version of Linux, buy a version for $60(that's the most I've seen for a Linux OS)
May I also note this:
With Linux, you get the support of the whole Open Source Community. You can find any type of program for free! Need text processor and spread sheet programs? Take your pick for free! The only things that aren't free are the hardware of your computer and the games you may buy from companies. And you don't even need Microsoft for any part of Linux, because they FEAR opensource!

Nah, I usually type a lot. I'm not against Microsoft completley, so I have a microsoft keyboard which is nice, since it's the only one I've seen that has the curved positioning for your hands. Plus, I'm also on a computer which has winXP, and I have 2 others in the house that have XP, and one with 98/RedHat7.3(but that's on a Gateway2000 with 200mhzMMX and 64MB memory...

I totally agree. I use XP on this PC(a new Dell) and the old pc is updated to windows 98, and I don't complain at all. For what I do, it's perfect.

Thanks MazKid! You're the first person I've seen that made sence, other than Saleen with the keyboard comment, that is.

Ok, I want you to put yourself in someone's shoes and consider whether you can fairly presume that they have the time to research into different platforms and operating systems. Most are accustomed to Microsoft products, and while you can argue all day about ignorance and laziness not being an excuse, let us be pragmatic and understand the realities of what lengths people will go. How many laypersons understand Linux? Furthermore, is it really so much to ask that something work for more than a day?
And you may not be correct in the term hypocricy, by your definition a person who buys a cheap car out of necessity has no right to complain if it breaks down because he believes cars under 25 grand to be garbage.

And, frankly, I do not care if I or others are being hypocrites and can assure you with absolute certainty that your anger is nothing, and will forever be nothing, compared to the anger caused by a constantly glitching product.

Um, they all pretty much look the same, as I've found out. It wasn't hard at all to use RedHat. As long as you get a good distribution, such as Mandrake, RedHat, or SuSE, you shouldn't have too hard of a time. The main thing I noticed was, other than the fact that you NEEDED to log in as some account, and I couldn't figure out how to have that automatically do that with RedHat, I had to mount each partition in addition to the base one where RedHat was installed. So, I can use all of my partitions in RedHat, including those not in ext2 or ext3 format.

So, unless you've tried to use Linux, don't yell at me for saying that it's really hard to make the switch, because chances are you're just extremely lax and ignorant.

Yeah, that's a great rant - except my work runs all MS products. So, if I can't run MS Office at home, I'm screwed.

Um, OpenOffice(what use to be the free StarOffice, but now StarOffice is charging) can use MS format...

So I rip my existing Office package out and install a new Office program that may not be 100% compatible with my 5-10 meg spreadsheets (with macros) and know that if I have a problem the Helpdesk at work (who in a rare twist are actually helpful) are just going to laugh at me? I'm a Credit Analyst, not an IT expert.

i dont care what you rant and rave about, i still dont like MS...
but what choices am i left with, almost everything is microsoft compatible and built specifically for Miscrosoft systems

Top 10 Things People Think the 2000 in Windows 2000 Really Stands For

1.The year it was DUE to ship
2.The number of MHz your system has to have in order to run it
3.The number of people who will actually PAY for the upgrade
4.The number of calls to tech support before you can get it to run
5.The number of minutes to install
6.The percentage of existing programs that won't run in the new operating system
7.The number of pages in the "EASY INSTALL" version of the manual
8.The number of gigabytes of hard-disc space required
9.The percentage of people who will have to upgrade their hardware
10.The number of floppies it will ship on

Don't rip out your MSOffice package, just install OpenOffice as well, don't overwrite any files, just see if it'll work out(also make sure you have permission to try this, some places are stingy about that kind of stuff...)

MICROSOFT SUCKS DONKEY BALLS

But I run Windows 2000. Sometimes the best option still stucks. Oh well, live with it. I'd run Linux if I could motivate myself to track down software for everything I do.

Macintosh? Nah, I dislike Apple even more than Microsoft. It's more the companies that I don't like, rather than their products. But you'll get that just about anywhere you go.

Microsofts tactics get on my nerves but what can I do Im just one guy. I had Linux mandrake installed on my PC for a while and I thought it was quite nice (Kinda reminded me of my old Amiga but better) but then I realised that the hardware support isnt that good (damn you winmodem!) and like loudmusic I coulndt be bothered to track the software down for it. Dont get me wrong I like Linux but all the software I have works on windows so I cant be bothered, im just too lazy to switch :D

See, I'm not yelling at lax people in general, just the ones that |3itch and moan about how MS sucks and Gates should rot in hell. If you're lax, hey, that's cool! I am too! Just don't complain about MS and not bother to try anything else, and just base your opinion on your ignorance. So Y2TUSCAN, I respect you, we're cool, but km, if you don't care, don't post. Others here are actually interested in alternatives to programs that they may have poor compatability with.

I run win98se.

1. Mircosoft sucks because i feel like they should suck.
2. I don't want an apple, because they suck too.
3. I dont want linux. i already have it, and no games run on it.
4. Its much easier for me to pick on microsoft, then to do some simple clicks of the mouse.
5. I cant stand microsoft.
6. I cant stand microsoft.
7. I cant stand microsoft.
8. I cant stand microsoft.
9. I cant stand microsoft.
10. I like to complain.
11. There is nothing you can do about it.
12. If you don't like to see/hear/read about people complain about ms, the don't look/watch/read about it.
13. STFU
14. :p
15. I am gonna use my 1st amendment right, so microsoft sucks.
16. win98 is full of bugs.
17. nanny nanny boo boo!

There now that i said that, what are you gonna do? you gonna spaz out and post another topic like this?

:p :p :p :p

heh, that was fun.

Most people who diss MS on this forum usually get a talking down from a more enlightened member :D

I must admit though the idea of the open source is a good idea. BTW when you installed Linux on your pc with win98 did you have two different partitions (well 1 for win98 and several for linux) because on Mandrake it said that you can actually run Linux from a Win98 partition? so what one did you do. Mind you Ive only made dual os pc with different MS` os so I dont know much about using Linux and windows.

i think that your maybe taking this a little too seriously

Perfect statement. I only complain about MicroSoft when MicroSoft screws me. For example, the new ... er ... issue I've got with Windows Media Player.

I think Micr$oft sucks... ummmm, what that guy up there shouted, a few posts back. I think Gates should spend an eternity in hell setting up Windoze machines and migrating them between versions, while fending off hackers and trying to write security patches for the 2000 holes in each M$ product and making a chart of the total number of ways you can change any given setting (without having the same effect).

At work I am forced to use 2kPro. At home, where I'm spending my own time and money, it's all Apple and Mac clones, baby. I wouldn't trade them if you double-dog-dared me to.

I'm sorry to have missed this thread until now.

Linux is great for expert users.
Macs are great for someone who doesn't care how slow their machine is in 10 years.
Windows is the best for average users who like to use 85% of all known software in the world.

Windows has the most software, so I use Windows.

Linux is good for servers. Macs are good for nothing, and Windows is good for most processes/stablity.
They all (exept for Macs) have their strong points.

1) Who in their right mind would run a 10-year-old computer anyway? Technology moves on, if you hadn't noticed. And if I was truly worried about that, I could put a G4 card in my 6-year-old Power Mac that would bring it up to speed for about, ohh, $350.

2) & 3) You'll have to explain further. Otherwise, I'm just going to say you're wrong.

rjensen11- Are you okay? You do realize that those of us running Macs tend to get just as beaten-down as you PC runners, yet you're screaming at us? Anger management is a lovely skill. ;)

I have a Mac. And I will swear that provided that Apple isn't swallowed in M$'s monopoly in the future, I will only buy Macs. The first thing that most of you Windows huggers usually think of when people like me say that is: He hasn't ever used a PC. Wrong. I've used PCs more than I can stand, and have always been relieved to revert back to Macs. If you want to prod me, I'll tell you why.

Mista- Macs aren't good for anything? I think there's a reason that my dad's Art Department only uses Macintoshes.

Yea, Macs arn't good for anything.
They'll have to buy all new ones again in a few years.
Their loss.

My G3 is over 4 years old now (might even be 5 by now), and it's still running just fine, and supports 95% of the software made for Macs.
