If you could setup your car to do successful donuts in the gymkhana stage, would that same setup allow you to drift on any given stage?

i don't think so cause my hks silvia drifts fine but it can't do donuts at all...but if there is a setup where a D1GP car can do donuts and drift..i would like to know too

if you can do nice countersteered donuts...then you should be able to drift almost any stage .... countersteered 1st and 2nd gear donuts are the basis of drifting...

the question is, is that even possible in GT4? :indiff:

Are (stationary) burnouts possible in gt4? I know you couldn't in gt3 :ouch:

it is possible in GT3, there are a few videos out there that shows stationary burnouts + donuts, I don't know where all those video links gone, its been a bit old.

but do look for team FBI's videos, they got some of it there 👍

p/s: I've seen people doing it, but I still can't do it myself lol :dopey:

Its possible with a ton of power. I've done donuts in my SL65 (full power, 993Bhp or something) but its REALLY hard to do, I think the D1 cars should be able to with correct settings and enough power. On a side note: the stationary burnout in GT# requires an FR car or 4WD car and a perfect braking time. If you watch your burnout on replay you car see the rear brakes getting all red. I don't know about GT4 though 💡

Burnouts... in GT3 can be down, because I do them, lol. Its about the braking. For example hold the brake and REV your car to its power-band and then let go of the brake the tires will spin, then you need to apply just a tad of brake to keep the car still/in place. Its the same with GT4, Its takes a couple of trys, but its very simple. Also wouldn't hurt to have little more power than stock. But in GT4 when your doing still burnouts, the car lerks forward so I guess technicaly it isn't in place.

Stationary burnout: TCS/ASM off, MT, racing slicks, and 500+hp. Hold down the brake, gun it, then slowly let off until the wheels start to spin. Ease back on the brake until you stop moving, with the rear tires still spinning/smoking. Your thumb should be barely grazing the brake button.

Stationary donut: Same setup, turn and hold the wheel all the way right or left, hold down the brake, gun it, squeak the break when you're about to hit 2nd gear, then shift up at the redline every gear while you turn.

At least that's how I do it in my Evo 7 GSR. /shrug

stationary dburnouts were easier in gt3 than number 4 in gt4 i can do them with my stock gnx alot of power isnt nessacary jsut be very easy on the brakes (in the gnx i have to get the tires smoking with a donut then ease onto the brakes)burnouts were one of the first things i learnt how to do with alot of power 6th gear donuts can be done with ease and with proper throttle modulationyou can hit it in 6th gear and hold it at redline

You really should be able to do donuts with any RWD car with an LSD equipped....

But I guess not in GT4.

Very true... yet another argument that GT is not the "real driving simulator" it claims to be. It's merely the best racing game series ever.

:D

It's more driving. The AI sucks that it goes down to a point where they are obstacles. I don't call that a race.

Do you???

OK last night I bought the HKS S15 D1 Car.

Turn the wheel to full lock in one direction and floored it. The car will just PUSH...YES PUSH in a circle!

Modulate throttle...still push.

Hold brake then launch....still push.

Try in second gear (more torque)...still push.

uh, sure it will, if you left TCS and ASM on o_0 duh..... or a low hp car, I can do this in any one of my cars, even my 250hp 4WD 2005 Subaru WRX and it will do donuts.

Well of course I'm not that stupid... :irked:

And I don't think the HKS Silvia is a low powered car.

ive also noticed this on ALOT of cars when i have all the assists turned off, you cant get them to spin in donuts, havent tried it w/ 4wd yet though.

I'm just wondering what the big deal with donuts/burnouts is. I mean, it's not like drifting where there are different styles and what not. You're just burning the rubber off your tires, what's the big deal?

i think the point everyone is trying to make is that for a game that does a good job of simulating almost all aspects of a car, why cant we do donuts? Its not that we would do them, but if we could...

one example where this flaw has sort of screwed me is in the track in the second Special Conditions race (you know, the one you can keep making $$$ off), even racing the track with the Blitz skyline, at the 2 consecutive 1st gear hairpins, you would think you could just floor it in first gear and swing the rear end around, but no, if you floor it the car just pushes straight into the outside wall. and the track is so tight there its very tricky to try and set up for a drift on such a tight turn, i know i havent been able to do it, i would love to see a video of someone pulling it off. Freakin awesome track though, one of my new favorites for practicing.

Basically donuts and figure 8's are the basis of drifting and learning car control...but the fact you can drift but not do donuts is kinda weird.

Not it's not. The only thing that they have in common is power over. That is all.

That's what I was thinking. Though I just saw a vid of an S15 doing donuts in Enthusia. Honestly, it didn't look very cool. It's just going in a circle, what's fun about that?

It really is amazing how people dont read things from the past GT games. The whole GT3 drift thread could almost be cut and pasted here. The universal code to getting GT cars to drift is no ASM and no TCS. High Camber 2.0 + on front. That's about it, specialty suspension tweeking is all  on you. Everyone's different.
