Ahh fair enough from the pictures the dimensions semeed way bigger and I dont get why no Frunk??? Bentleys and Rollers are bigger true in LWB form but look way cooler than this! Even a XJR Supercharged in LWB form in British racing green is very nice!!!

Two thirds of that bonnet area is taken up with massive suspension turrets so the struts have somewhere to compress into, which is how they managed to keep the 130mm height between the top of the wing and the wheel arch so shallow.
 
I've never been a fan of the "Hot Wheels" design language of manhole-sized rims combined with windows you'd barely get your head through.

I am the exact opposite

Have always been a huge fan of hot wheel cartoonish cars with huge wheels and low roof line ..
That might explain why I love this Type 01

It's not ugly, it looks fine for a brutalist design. Wheels are too big, but otherwise it looks ok to me.

What I really don't like is the horrendous packaging. For a car of this size, the ingress, egress, driver/front passenger space, rear passenger space and cargo space are all atrocious. I imagine the side and rear visibility won't be great either. That Jaguar is spinning the cramped driver/passenger space as a positive is quite ridiculous. Having more space is and always has been a pillar of automotive luxury, to pretend otherwise is silly.

I think people are way too quick to label anything and everything "ugly" and "hideous" based on initial knee-jerk feelings.

The Type 00, that this design is based on, was revealed two years ago. I doubt you can call it knee-jerk feelings at this point. It’s not even shocking anymore, since the design is already old, so it doesn’t even have that factor working for it.

Even Jaguar knows it’s hideous, and according to a quote in The Guardian that seems to be the point:

A senior JLR executive close to the Type 01 project put it more bluntly: “It’s the type of car that you park up and everybody stops and says: ‘[double expletives]’, what have you just turned up in?’”

If they're in the market for something like this they will buy the more expensive but much nicer in every way Cadillac Celestiq... or a Rolls Royce Spectre.

This Jag is actually priced in the mainstream luxury price bracket, at $130K it sits with Bentley, high end Mercs, high end Audis etc.

So the group that's currently wasting all their money on trying to force their way back into the AI grift just as the bubble is starting to deflate. That's one way to cement yourself as a symbol of failure, I guess.

You'd think a safer American demographic would be NBA players, since the league so desperately wants to establish a European presence and there are currently plenty of max contract players flaunting the money they get for putting up empty numbers every week. I'm sure they'd consider this a trade-up from the same old Bentley that every other guy has on their Instagram reel.

I think what they are going for is bold, imposing and different to illicit such a reaction, not necessarily hideous, but I get your point, it's not meant to be conventionally pretty.

It's similar to the types of designs that Rolls Royce has been putting into production since the Phantom VII: bold and imposing, not pretty at all, but Jaguar are taking it to another level with the 01.

I think now the Jaguar Type 01 makes even more sense






The Type 01 is much more my style in cars... I have always had a weakness for 3 box sedan design with a classy subtle understated design...

But This is probably just me heh

Jag looks much nicer in a gloss finish than it does in satin. It's much more slabby with a less reflective surface. 👍
 
Maybe more manufacturers bring back proper squarebiz. I’d be for it.

I still don't understand why they insisted on showing it off in brightly saturated colors and satin finishes to highlight that it has the aura of a shipping crate. I know that people are tired of monochrome cars, but this is really one that ought to be wearing dark metallics so that bulky shape is more of a presence than a distraction.

Yeah but the new Tesla Roadster is just a lot of hype. Comparing the Type 01 with it only makes it look bad IMO :nervous:

Apologies, the last "it" in the sentence is the Type 01. In other words, comparing the Type 01 with the Tesla Roadster isn't right in my opinion because the Roadster is just pure hype, whereas Jaguar is serious about the Type 01
 
I will say that C-pillar and rear door window scream XJS to me, so there's some heritage moves in there.

It's actually not... The car is in fact relatively low compared to other sedans.
The perspective and intended excessive proportions make you feel that way...

Per design.

When everything tends to be so high nowadays, I welcome this slick low slung design
