The first images of the 2007 Jaguar XKR have leaked online. The car is believed to have a 400+ horsepower supercharged V8 engine. It will be offered in coupe and convertible variants. So far, our images only show the cabriolet. We expect more details will be released in the coming hours or days.

Looks nice, but I would hope the power goes a bit over 400 BHP unlike what has been suggested. In the market we have today with larger and more powerful GT's, 450 BHP is the minimum as it seems, 500 BHP now the offical standard.

I would have expected Jaguar to atleast match the 440 BHP put down by the XLR-V's 4.4L S/C V8.

Even this GM guy would get the Jag over the XLR-V, no matter how much I love my Caddys, as the Jag is the next-best thing to an Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Unfortunately however, I can't get a stick, and that is the suxorz, but I can deal.

...Although, it will be ineresting to see how the new XKR and XLR-V match up in the near future.

400Hp seems fine to me, I think people are expecting too much power these days.

Certainly not, and I can appreciate the luxury that is a modestly-powered British GT, however, what is stopping them from getting more than 400 BHP out of that engine? Aston Martin is doing it without forced induction, so why can't Jaguar top the 500 BHP mark?

I'd like to see the day when the decendants of the E-Type can once again knock gloves with the likes of Ferrari, Corvette, Lamborghini, Mercedes-Benz, etc. But, of course it could be argued that Jaguar competes in an entirely different league, of which I would agree, but there is such a great legacy that the XKR should be living up to, and it is sad they haven't been able to capture the spirit of the E-Type in their modern cars.

As far as I'm aware, Jaguar can develop more from it, but that setup proved the most smooth.

Following yesterday's leak of images of the 2007 Jaguar XKR cabriolet, higher quality photos of both the coupe and convertible are now available. The new XKR has a 416 horsepower supercharged V8 good for a 0-62 mph time of 5.2 seconds. More details are expected in the near future.

And, there are a few more offical pictures!

I picked the best ones they had, so if you aren't seeing what you want, too bad! (lol)

... I still like the car, but on the same token, I still don't think 416 BHP is enough gusto to stay on top.

I think this car will be a big hit in England. People love theyre droptops, you should see how many M3 converts London has.

That is a very un-aggressive front. Diappointingly so.

The old one had an absolutely awesome front end to it that even now still looks like it's gonna bite your head off and spit you out the back end.

The base looks are okay, and appeal to the masses, but the hardcore version needs a much more agreesive front end.

More words from Jaguar on the 2007 XKR can be found here, but I can give a quick summary.

The offical power figure is now set a 420 BHP and 413 ft-lbs of torque. Speed will decent, 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, electronicly limited to 155 MPH.

mmm... that coupe is gorgous! I love how it mimics the DB9, but is not a total copy of it. And that interior is one of the best I have seen out of Ford.

The best part about the Jaguar is that it is "affordable" by comparison to the Aston, but I still don't think the car is fast enough. But, most Jaguar owners aren't interested in that anyway.

Would be nice if the Jaguar XKR-R would have made it as a production model, or atleast would have had a greater influence on this generation of model, but sadly, it didn't.

Which has always struck me as odd considering how crap the weather is . I think the power is down to keep the car as smooth as possible, and also to keep it from competing with the Aston V8 Vantage because that's a battle the Jag will lose, regardless of it being the better car or not. I can only see the Aston winning a battle like that. Also as said, it will be cheaper than the Aston so your paying for what you get really, both look stunningly beautiful imo.

^ Agreed!

I guess they can't have Jaguar stepping on Aston's shoes too much, so I guess I should be happy with 420 BHP.

Um, Aston Martin? It'd be like Barrichello overtaking Schumacher on the 2004 "parade lap". You don't have your 2nd strings show up your starting lineup.

If Jaguar went all out and produced the XKR-R, the next logical step would be 500HP (well, at least 450HP). Sharing the same platform (if not the same exact chassis) as the V8 Vantage would certainly put the XKR-R faster & cheaper thant the V8 Vantage, which is just barely getting itself known in the marketplace. Aston Desperately needs the Vantage to succeed just to maintain viability and relavancy.

All I want from Jag is a stick, something that the XKR-R test car had. Too bad it never made it into a production car...

Goodwood Festival of Speed: Jaguar XKR to debut

Jaguar is to preview its new supercharged XKR at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this weekend, a week in advance of its appearance at the British Motor Show in London.

A special one-off pre-production example, painted in classic primrose yellow, will be driven up the hillclimb course by Jaguar chief engineer Mike Cross.

Jaguar is also bringing a number of historic cars to Goodwood: the D-Type winner of the 1956 Le Mans 24 Hours will climb the hill, as will a 1953 C-Type, 1956 and 1954 D-Types and a 1974 Group 44 E-Type race car, winner of the 1975 Sports Car Club of America Championships.

Update!

MOAR POWAR FUR TEH XKR!

AUtoblog
Now that Jaguar and Aston Martin are no longer officially related, the leaping cat feels free to pounce on its former corporate sibling. The current Jaguar XK-R isn't enough to really challenge cars like the Aston Martin Vantage V8 or Porsche 911, so Jag is cooking up a hotter version -- an XK-R-R?

With ECU and engine modifications, the forced breather should be good for more than 500 HP and a 180+ MPH top speed. With that kind of heat -- an 80+ HP jump over the current XKR and 120+ more than the Vantage -- the car will get to 60 in 4.5 seconds. It is expected to take cues and more from Jag's GT3 race car, yet while it is thought to get racing-style bucket seats and carbon fiber trim, it will still be appointed like a Jag. Outside, a new front air dam is the only change that has been spied so far.

Sweet!

More power should turn this car from a pretty respectful cruiser to an all-out bruiser, and finally make the Jaguar run with the 911 like it should have years ago. Like I've said many times, if I had $100K, there is a damn-good chance I'd have one of these in my driveway.

...That is, until the ZR-1 comes out...

I doubt they'll ever make a truly "aggressive" Jaguar any time soon; Its just not in their nature to do so. They'll probably add a few more special pieces here and there, but as to it looking outrageous like some other sport-oriented models (AMG Black Series, etc), that just isn't going to happen.

But, personally speaking, I like it when things are stupidly fast and don't look it.

Sweet. A faster version if the XK. I have felt a little like they needed to pick it up a little and now the have. Good work!👍

I still think I would take an Aston or a 911 though.

Ah, so now that they have similar power to the Astons, there is little reason to get an Aston. Except they look better.

-> Looks like its a good way to step on Aston's toes. But I still won't buy it, I have the GT-R and/or 997 Turbo/GT2 on my sights. :D
