Jake Humphrey, This Isn't An iPad Advert!

That's pretty much what he's doing now, if it got any more coverage you wouldn't be able to tell it was an F1 show...

I disagree... Fair enough, he's using it, but as others have stated, he has made attempts to cover up the logo... I can't see why it's even an issue anyway, as Formula one is littered with sponsorship, wherever you look.

Take another example. My band is practically a walking advert for Gibson guitars. I play two Gibson Les Paul Standards and a custom shop Gibson Les Paul Goldtop, the rhythm guitarist has a Gibson Les Paul Standard and an old Gibson SG custom and the bass player plays a gibson Les Paul Bass... We play gibsons because they're the best... It's not an advert for Gibson. Between the three of us, we use £10300 worth of gibson guitars at each gig but the only complaints we get is from people who can't afford a real Gibson... And I quote some middle aged guy "That wee B****** has three les paul's". Seems to me, this whole arguement was started off by someone who really wants an Ipad and can't get one, or just someone who has a similar device but less fashionable... Either way, it's not an issue IMO. If Jake, DC and EJ were to wear expensive shirts with logos someone would complain... Next someone will complain about EJ modelling his favourite glasses... Or someone will complain about Jackie Stewart advertising Rolex watches when he bought Barrichello one for getting pole position (in a stewart f1 car) then he bought Johnnie Herbert one for winning a race in a stewart f1 car.

Only thing I really noticed is Murray Walker doesn't feature on the bbc's site as much as last year. I'd expect this is down to Murray though.

I'm hoping they can get Murray to stand in as an extra member of the commentary team along with Brundle and Legard for the british grand prix... Seeing as how it's the 60th anniversary of F1.

He's the presenter, wouldn't it be more obvious if he attempted to hide it behind his back?
If the man wants to use an iPad and he finds it useful, how on earth do you want him to avoid it getting shown on TV?

I still can't believe people care about this.

I've already said why it's annoying; he barely uses the thing exept to slowly wave at something; for which I'm sure an iPad is not needed. He barely gets any practical use for it, why does he have to carry it on his hand all the time? We already know half his brain is occupied trying not to hit it against something. So in essence he's carrying around a device that gets almost no use during the program, other than showcasing his juggling skills. What's next? Is he gonna start doing the program on a Segway? 💡

If the iPad was a clothing accessory, at least it wouldn't interfere the way carrying a laptop computer in your hand would. And it certainly wouldn't be waved at the viewers as if we need more subtle advertising from the TV station.

Rock bands are different because they offer artistic social commentary, which includes pop cultural references. But I don't turn F1 on to get that kind of stuff. Covering the iPad logo is as good an advertising block as the Marlboro barcode; half-hearted at best.

The man says he finds it useful, I'm more inclined to believe him when his previous implements were a clipboard and a mobile.
I don't see why it can't be left at "he finds it useful". Because that is all that matters. If he didn't find it useful, then clearly there would be a case for concern, but seeing as everyone is happy and the show hasn't been slowed down or anything, I don't understand where the big issue is.

Where was the criticism of the mobile phone earlier if we all care so much about such irrelevant things? Why weren't people saying "why has he got [insert mobile phone] when he struggles to read texts and can't read tweets, he should get [insert portable notebook] it would improve the show".
Oh thats right, its because its an Apple product, so of course, it now comes under intense scrutiny and is "blatant product placement".

Do you really care about his ability to open a door being a second or two slower because he sometimes needs help? How often does that happen and why the hell does it matter so much? There are very few moments in the show where he needs to open doors and most of the time he can do it reasonably quickly. Most of the time all he needs to do is stand still or dodge around the pitlane, the iPad hasn't changed this. Most of the time he is following camera men who usually help remove obstacles.

Take it back 20 years "presenter name, this isn't a clipboard advert!"

Times change. Not much of a deal to be honest.

This.

I've see studio reporters with laptops out in front of them, some reading from them, I never heard any complaints about product placement. People only notice because of the massive hype of the said product.

It just goes to show how good a job the BBC have done with their F1 coverage if the worst complaint is about the presenter's choice of information source. If it really bothers you that much, just turn the programme on a few minutes before the race 💡

So.... am I the only one who didn't even notice he had an iPad?

I agree with Roo, Ardius etc. It's not an issue. He doesn't go around saying "and if we just have a look at what's on my iPad..." and it gets no more presence on the screen than his microphone.

I have much more objection to Eddie Jordan's face than I do an iPad, and at least the sodding iPad is silent...

Anyway, if you're complaining about this, why not complain that every time Clarkson makes a phone call in a challenge on Top Gear he's using the latest gadget? When Motorola Razrs were all the rage he had numerous ones of those, and lately it's pretty obviously an iPhone.

Do I care? No.

Yeah, that's it. It's because it's an Apple product. That's why I never complained about him having an iPhone, because it's not Apple. If the iPhone were an Apple product, I would've complained, but since I somehow have an exclusive bias against Apple products only, that's why I only complain now.
