Man...ill tell you this right now. This thread is going to be the new scrap ground. Its already been seen in the STi vs. Camaro thread.

Especially considering the amount of v8 muscle cars are going down like crazy. Only to be replaced with crap - see new GTO.

How could both be better?:odd:

I'd pick domestic if I wanted a low quality fast car, and import if I wanted a high quality fast car.

I cant remember what magazine it was, but one's cover story was a comparo between a STI and 03 cobra. They were talking about how those kind of japanese cars are replacing many of the old american muscle cars...it was interesting.

I belive that was MotorTrend. :) I saw it on TV. As for me, I picked Imports. I may be wrong, since I dont know much about muscle cars, but it just seems that Imports are better all around. Sure, Muscle cars can whip imports in dead out speed, but in turning and things it seems (SEEMS) imports are better..I've only seen a few Domestic Auto cross cars..

what happened between the sti and the cobra?? motortrend has a website right?

for the vote, id have to go with both of them cause they both have cars i really like.

It was just a comparsion type thing. I dont think they flat out said which they thought was better. They did say that for the 'new generation of kids, the STi is like the (insert oldder muscle car here) was in the 70's and 80's. But for the older generations, the Cobra rules'..

They just raced both of them on the track and decided that the STi is like the muscle car of the 21st century.

I have very little prejudice for either kind, I'd pick both.
To me, muscle cars, with their throaty sounding engines, massive amounts of torque and raw horsepower, are right up there with the purr of the turbo charged import engines and their overall reliability with parts that won't hurt you pocket that bad too. ;)

However I voted 'imports' since I haven't the same knowledge about muscle cars as I do about Japanese manufacturers and their models. Still, I hold great respect for the old 'muscle' of America, those cars flavored their era like no other phenomenon could have.

The STI vs Camaro thread wouldn't of become such a mess if people had more common sense/knowledge about the two cars.

Japanese.

European Import all the way :D - i'll take my TVR thank you very much.

I like my japanese imports but only a few particular cars. My problem with japanese cars is the amount of rice that morons put into them.

I like my classic muscles a lot...especially Shelby gt500's and cobras, but they just won't cut it anymore on a circuit now will they? the new corvettes have something to the way they look that i dislike...same with all the dodge vipers and mustangs. Saleen is probably the only american car manufacturer that has anything truly special...
that's my .02

I do like muscle cars because of their raw power, but a good Japanese import will destroy muscle cars since they are able to boast similar or superior performance specs using a much smaller and more efficient engine. Not to mention that Japanese cars will have vastly better handling. I'm not trying to put down American performance cars, I'm just saying muscle cars are one trick ponies (no pun intended).

What exactly is an 'import'? If you look at the dictionary definition, both a Camaro and an STi are imports. In the UK, we make TVRs, which are definitely muscle cars, but then we also make Lotuses, which I'm assuming you're putting in the 'imports' category since it's not a basic chassis with an enormous engine.

Therefore this is pretty much a duplication of the Power vs Handling thread, is it not?

"Theres only one thing you need to know son. Can you say Hemi. Hemi" <<<<that commercial sums up my feelings perfectly

i would have to say japense cars because muscle cars are fast, but there known for breaking down or blowing up. I do like the Buick Grand National and The Pontiac GTO:D . those cars are wow!!!! i cant say that i dont like those cars because those cars are just an amazing piece of machinery.

Pure out muscle is the best. I'd hate to try to pull something with a four bangin Blazer, that would suck. I want some beef under my hood. Rice motors are good but hell theres no torque. I need something I can pull my snowmobiles, quads, dirt bikes and other things.

Japanese and Euro cars just don't do it for me, sure some thing there the greatest thing since sliced bread but me I'll stay with my domestics that have the ability to get down and go.

I have learned gobs about import cars, both Euro and japanese, and dang I love them. but then again, I think that a muscle car, like that is a n incredible piece of machinery, a car that can still be amazing for todays standards, whose style and... force are unparalleled. but the ything I like the best are how good platforms they are to build a truly great performer in every aspect. yeah, you canavoid all the hassle and go with a supra or M3 to build an all-out performer, I know, but I like to do it with the old things ^^ and I love how the upgrades bring them on to the new century. maybe today muscle cars cant cut it anymore, because they will be beaten to death by practically any car, but they are some of the best platforms ever built. that is what I like.
