An old man and his grandson are watching the qualifying of the JGTC series at the Grand Valley circuit. All day they watched RX7s, Subarus, some interesting looking Celicas, an entire fleet of skylines, a young woman pushing an ASL to its limits, and they were even lucky enough to spot a Woodone Supra taking some laps (which is a very rare occurrence, since the driver is a very busy professional who owns a very successful car photography company). Despite seeing all of this action the young boy seems impatient.
Grand Pa we have been out here all day!! When are they going to come out and run?
The old man looks at the boy and then reaches into his pants pocket to pull out his trusty old pocket watch. Despite the age of the watch it is accurate and still has some luster to its gold finish. The old man gently lifts the cover of the watch and checks the time. He then closes the watch back up and returns it to his pocket.
It shouldnt be too much longer now; they usually like to start their run later in the day.
In the pits there is a lot of action, cars constantly leaving the garages, mechanics running up and down the pits to get supplies, and the press is in full force to get a word with the drivers.
Miss Kolyana! A young reporter gets the attention of the driver Could you please comment on the track conditions today?
Just as the Driver was getting ready to answer the reporters question the reporter notices something out of the corner of his eye. He notices that the crowd in the pits is flocking towards the end of the pits. Not knowing what else to do the reporter joins the crowd and walks away from the interview, much to the anger of the driver.
As the reporter gets closer to the final three pit stalls he can hear a noise. Its a low rumble at first but then the closer he gets it gets louder and louder the pitch also rises.
Back in the stands the young boy has taken notice of all of the commotion
Grand Pa whets going on? Is it them?
Just as the young boy finishes the sentence the three garages open up to reveal, three beautiful, sleek, and sexy Honda LM S2000s. As if the cars were synchronized they pull out of the garage and hit the track. As they exit the pits the drivers open up the mighty four cylinder engines and the shriek of three engines spinning at 10,000 RPMs brings the crowd to their feet. The cars go into turn one for their warm up lap. As the cars go out of sight the crowd in the grandstand focuses their attention on the big screen monitors showing the rest of the warm up lap. Despite being on the other side of the track people on the front straight grand stands can still hear the engines of the mighty Hondas. Then the cars come back into view and the drivers go full throttle down the front straight. The sound of the engines is so loud that all of the spectators cover their ears as the Honda S2000s run their qualifying laps. After some time, of running fast laps the three cars pull into the pits and their engines are shut off. The track is silent for what felt like an hour the crowd was silent but then upon seeing the brave Honda drives get out their cars and the crowd erupts in cheer and applause.
Although no one remembered where the Hondas actually qualified the, crowd was happy, for they had seen a piece of history. Everyone left the track satisfied that day, but one person in particular will never forget what he saw. The young boy truly understood the magic that is Honda.
