JGTC S2 Round 8 Race + Results

Curious about the pit strategy on this one. I thought I was taking a small risk doing four stops, at laps 8, 16, 24, and 32, and running RM/RS until 32, then switching to RH/RS. I thought others might run the hards all the way and get by with three stops. I'd like to hear what other GT300 drivers did.

I'm now guessing the opposite is what happened, that it was more stops for others rather than less.

Anyway, I count this as a particularly gratifying win, considering the +8% weight penalty. It convinces me even more that very, very careful tire testing and good pit strategy can pay off. The qualifying times seemed to indicate that, at this track, fewer stops would be the only way to do good, and it is the only track so far where I actually thought about running hard tires all the way. But the tire testing results said otherwise and the long pit stop times of almost 34 seconds supported the decision to go with the mediums until the last stop.

I'm now convinced that a good team effort can win the GT300 Championship next season, so Drew and I will be teaming up to give it a shot. I only wish I had discovered this series earlier. It's the only one I've seen that is worth the commitment.

i hear that, i think 6 stops was too much for me... but i couldn´t run fast with hards, so i have to live with that...

i have a lot of congrats to make... first to VTR for doing his job... you know you had to take care of business, and you did.

andge, its been a long time since i find you over MSN, but great job... i´ll try to not let the team down, but its getting harder and harder to chase the cup...

as for my race, i could only run with my combo of RM/RS others were just too slow... i could take some seconds off, and once again, precious seconds...

yes, i trashed my car ever since qualify of round 1, but i made a lot of mistakes during the season... already looking foward to season 2...

Congrats EFJ on your podium in a first race 👍 Also to appie on a major improvement over the previous weeks, those kind of performance look alot more like the qualification time in the RX-7 you sent me. :sly:
 
I'd still like to know the pit stop strategy for the podium guys in GT300. If anyone was doing five or six stops I'd really like to know why, given the rather odd number of laps and the long pit stop times.
 
The 5 or so penalties killed me on my final run after Pro Bowl and didn't have time to redo the race.

Thought I was going to have a good pit run too, 13 laps RH/RM pitting 13, 26, 39 and then switch to RM/RS for the final 3 or 4 depending if I wanted to pit at 38 or 39 .. Off to the next track.
 
Also as an advance post ..

sigh ~ I will not be running full-time in S2. Might return for S3, but all depends on when I return the states and how things go after I am there. I may run as a part-time racer though to just keep in tune during the little off season break while I retire here in Japan and move back to USA

I did 5 stops using RM/RS pitting on laps 7,14,21,28 & 35. I had two penalties in this race and my last lap was riddled with mistakes. So it could have been 5-15 seconds quicker.

I tried a different strategy which was :
RM/RS pit lap 7
RH/RM pit lap 18
RH/RM pit lap 28
RM/RS pit lap 35
RM/RS finish
However i got about 4 penalties in this race and didn't end up finishing it. So i have no idea if it would have been quicker for me than the 5 stopper.

Also it's worth adding that i don't really drive well on harder compound tires i seem to do much better with a softer compound tire. So if i can work out a pit strategy with soft tires i'll go for that over a harder compound strategy.

that´s is so true. i even thoguth about going RS all the way but that would be insane, i would have to pit 8 times:crazy: so i ended up with my old RM/RS and only 6 pits... i was 4 seconds slower per pit with hard tires...
