JGTC S2 Round 9 Race + Results

Time submitted.

Had a pretty nice race actually, managed to find a good rhythm with the car here in spite of the extra weight. She still felt heavy though. Some good battles with the AI backmarkers.

I was about 0.3 faster per lap than the GT-R Concept but with 1 extra pit I just couldn't make up the gap, taking my first 2nd place this season :(

Good luck everyone!

Time submitted, from my previous run.

I've got a feeling it might be a close battle for the minor placings, here's hoping that I can keep in touch...

Good luck everyone.

I hope you all remember this famous quote.

Warning to all the drivers in GT500, I won't be denied in the championship race so check your back. :D

Time submitted.

I was torn, as I did two races. One race was 12 seconds faster then the other, but the other had a fastest lap over a second faster. Submitted the faster overall one.

Wow, how could you get a lap that was a whole second faster? Different tires? Was it clean?

Perhaps some mad drafting behind the GT-R or another car. :)

Yeah, different tyres. In my first race, I ran on RM/RM for the first stint. This ended up working out to having a 3 lap final stint where I ran RS/RS and drafted the Ford GT down the back straight.

On my submitted race I used RM/RS the whole way. Kinda upset though, as I span it on lap 40 and lost maybe 5-10 seconds.

Ah, that could be ...though, I found it very dangerous to draft down the straight on Apricot Hill. The AI was very unpredictable in turns 1 and 2. I did draft when I could but I would try to move to the side or drop back before the turn (just in time to see the AI tap the brake, disturb the car balance and drift up the track into the sand). The little gain wasn't worth the possibility of contact.

Yeah, you have to be very, very careful when overtaking into and out of turns with the AI.

I almost had fit after I drafted the GT-R into the first corner, and he re-overtook me, on the outside of that very corner.

The only car that has as much grip, power and stability of that is VTs RX-8...

And the GT-R was overtaking me on the exit of that corner.

After much testing, I found 4 pits was by far faster for me, 6 pits next and 5 pits the slowest. I'm sure different driving styles and cars would make it different for others. My 4 pit was 17 seconds faster then my 6 pit.
I think I may have this one.....maybe.....hopefully!!

My original strategy was 3 pits:
L01 R3/R3
L09 R3/R3
L18 R3/R3
L27 R2/R2

...but I was faster with 4 pits (even including a pit-in penalty):

L01 R3/R3
L08 R3/R3
L16 R3/R3
L26 R3/R3
L34 R3/R3

You got 15 laps on RH tires(3 pit)....and 10 on RM's(4 pit).....good work, I can only get 6 from RM's and 9 from RH's.

Yeah, I think part of it is my car but I also tend to be pretty easy on tires. Still 10 laps on R3's is not actually possible. What happened is I tried to stretch them to 9 laps, hit a car, and got a penalty pit. The next chance for a stop was on lap 26. Lap 26 was very slow. :)

15 laps on R2's wasn't too hard but it's just not fast enough. On that first run, I was really doing great on the R3's with mid 1'21.xxx laps but it really killed my time when I switched to R2's and did 15 laps in the high 1'24.xxx range. It was better to stick with R3's and make 4 stops.

How the hell are you managing 9 laps on R3s?! I could squeeze 7 tops but on the 7th lap my tyres would be red as hell and just lose time. I had to pit every 6.

Likewise. The GT300 cars tend to be lighter on the tires though

I'm finalizing the results. The finish of S1 will be damm interesting, trust me on that one. :sly:

Just what I wanted to hear... :D

It's anyones game there in the 500 class,I'd be nervous too!!

Hmm...5th, pretty much what I expected...no weight gained, but none lost either :( Congrats to EV4L and Drew22 on the win, off to bed now will look forward to the leaderboard update tomorrow :nervous:

Congratulations to Drew and to EV4L on their wins.

It's sure nice to win one (I spent way too much time on this), especially after the spanking I took at SSR5, but I'm gonna be waddleing around Suzukra.

Hey EV4L you threatened to pull this one out ...and you did.

Great race everyone..congrats to all JGTC drivers! We Rule!!

I bet Casio wishes he had run another race with no spins...

Thank you Mr Viper.

Congrats to all the podium finishers, and to everyone who dealt with the crazy AI.

What I just pulled in my Motul is as close as a flawless race my habilities could manage.

👍 to Drew and all the podium finishers, and to the rest of the field also 👍

OH MY GOD!... WHAT A RELIEF!

I thought it was a slow race, just over 1 hour, but I knew that I couldn't possible run any more consistant or faster.

Those were well needed points agains Andge and Soyfu. :)

Also, congrats to Drew and EV4L on the wins.

Lap 6 - RM/RS
Lap 12 - RM/RS
Lap 18 - RM/RS
Lap 24 - RM/RS
Lap 30 - RM/RS
Lap 36 - RM/RS

Thats my pit strategy. I was able to run 7 laps, but by the end of the 7th lap I had added about 5 seconds to the lap. I then decided to run 6 lap stints, and they worked well. I finished about 1 min behind the 2 of the NSX's, which ran a near perfect race. I hate them!

Can't wait untill next week, Suzuka is going to be a whole new story. It is probably the hardest track on the schedule, and I can't wait to see how people deal with it.

I'm afraid of Suzuka, Apricot I know very well from GT3.
I feel a bit guilty for running this race 4 times. first run was 6 pits at 1:00'11.XXX. Second attempt was 5 pits at 1:00'21.xxx. Third was 4 pits at 1:00'00.8xx, I was going to submit that, but after a few days I just had to try breaking the 1 hour mark.
I'm quite sure most all my fellow racers in the 300 series would break one hour if they could have 4 tries.Just look at the last 5 races, I have to work real hard to stay in the mix at all.

Pit Schedule:

RH/RM pit at 9
RH/RM pit at 18
RH/RM pit at 27
RH/RM pit at 36
RM/RS last 6 laps

I knew at the end of lap 21 laps,(halfway) with a time of 30' 03.xxx that I could do it, I was at 30'07.xxx on my 1:00.00.8xx run. I was very lucky with the AI's, they were more help then hinderance. I picked the lineup carefully, a lineup I could pass at the most favorable spots, but 1 or 2 fast enough and stable enough so I could draft them a few laps.

omg... I without my penalty pit I could've had 2nd or possibly even 1st place...

why did I have to wait until sunday night? why?!?! oh! the anguish!!!!! :-D

It's all my ****ing mums fault. She distracted me when she walked in and started talking to me. That one little split second of not concentrating....Argh!!

But congratulations to EV4L!
