JGTC S3 Round 3 Race + Results

i used the AI on +7 and passed them all before T2... and throughout the race they were pretty evenly spread out, or they were right up each others ass which made it easier to pass them...

Not liking hards on this course, so it's RM's and RS's. Have one nice run, may just submit and be done.

OFF SUBJECT: Any of you guys have any input on the 2006 Mini Cooper? Thinking of buying one for my wife this weekend, any input would be helpfull. I'll be trading in a 2003 VW Passat.

Nice choice mate, good turn of speed (for a little car), handles good, looks good, economical, and best of all it's not a generic Japanese box-on-wheels.

And some of the paint-jobs on them are absolutely  .

Go for it!

On Subject:

Just tried to run a race with the DS2, cos the missus is still in bed after a bad night and I wanted to not wake her up with the wheel screeming whilst I go round Loews and the N.Chicane.

Pathetic! Bloody Pathetic!:banghead: :banghead: :irked: :irked: :banghead: :banghead: :irked: :irked: :banghead: :banghead: 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬 🤬

Didn't quite realise how indocrinated I was with the wheel till now.

Just can't use the DS anymore :yuck:

Bought the Mini today. Got the Cooper S with 6 speed manual, supercharger, navigation system, 17 inch alloy wheels, auto climate...the works. Drives like a go kart, never drove anything quite like it, it just hugs the road....love it.

I like the Mini's as well. If you need some more HP for it, let me know !

OMG i still haven´t started in this race... no strategy, no runs, no idea what to do... it will be only one attempt i think... busy weekend... also some WRS thing... they have a race at autunm ring... couldn´t resist... hated the car, but it is my track...

anyway, in the worst case scenario, i´ll have a lighter car for next round:tup:

So is it the Cooper S(with 170Bhp), or the Works Cooper S (with 197Bhp) you got Andy?

Either is great, both got big rep's on Top Gear.
Even though the Works was found to be nearly 3k heavier on the wallet than two others with more power(200 & 210Bhp from none BMW tuner's), it came out on top because of the handling and being a BMW built/tuned/warrantied wonder-beast.

Nice one by the way!

And what paint package has it got?
Pic's please! Just love the looks of the new mini's.

I hear you! I've been busy as well. I did some tire testing, so I have that figured out, and I know what tire strategy I'm going to use. Well, if I can make the tires last for that long. I should be able to though. No clue if it's the fastest setup, but it's what I'll be doing. I spent about 45 minutes last night trying to get a clean start, with no luck. It was fun bashing into cars on purpose though. I was considering doing a start where I disregard the AI completely and just go around the course without trying to stay away from them, maybe even some bouncing off the walls, and then post it up here for fun. I don't have the time to waste on that though! But it's what I'd like to do...

Stupid thing is, the other day when I was doing it, I was able to get cleanly by everyone relatively easily, and I haven't changed the car's I'm racing against or anything! So, I guess I know it can be done, I just need to keep at it, and be less tired I guess. If I can't get a completely clean start, I'll just do what I can and ignore the fact that the AI closes me into the wall and hits me in the back. After all, there are no penalties. I'll just make sure that I don't do anything advantageous, other than the fact that I did something that gets in there way... :grumpy: Using time penalty would've been much better, IMO, because then I'd know exactly what would theoretically be considered an ok bump(with regards to being non-advantageous) vs who knows until after the race is over. But, that's that!

Did my race yesterday and since it's my Grand Mother's 90's birthday this weekend I will be out and unable to do another race.

After several tests and Excel insertions, I decided the hard tyres would penalize too much my lap times to compensate the fewer stops. So, I choosed to use a mix of softer tyres to match the lap number. Also decided to use the Speed Limiter penalty and got 2 penalties  . Used +7 for the AI to make it easier to pass them, but got one of the penalties when passing a reallly slow AI.

I think I could take 20-30 seconds out of my time, but it won't be possible.

I'll submit my time and report after this post.

After several testes and ............

How many did you have?:sly:

I know some cultures have certain beliefs, and it takes courage to do 37 laps of Monaco as fast as you can.......

But DAMN!:D :D :D :D :D

LOL, already corrected it. My Word Autocorrection feature corrected it automatically for the portuguese word (tests = testes).

And I was born with two.... and still have them......

ROFL, I love you guys.

I still haven't run this race. I've been thinking alot latly, and have been consumed by my thoughts. I think a race tonight should help clear it up a bit. I wanted to go running today but it sucks here. It's overcast with drizzle, and is depressing. :(

Time submitted to Eats!

Quite happy with it, even though I ran with no penelties.

I know, I know, I said I was gonna use speedlimiter, but when all is said and done, this is a competition! A team competition! And My partner deserves my best effort.

Anyway, for some reason I found it harder to keep the laps clean with the penelty on than when it is off. I made more mistakes because I was being carefull and too cautious.
With it off I relaxed and therefor drove better and much cleaner (maybe 1 slightly heavy contact that may have drawn a penelty in the whole race, instead of 3 in one lap with it turned on)

I did a load of maths and scribbles and worked out that, for me, there was maybe 10 seconds or so over the whole race that I 'maybe' could have found.

AI passing delays, tyres going off early because of having to be more aggressive in a corner than normal to get past a car, slight outbraking mistakes etc, etc.

Anyway, enough of my prattling on. Good Luck Guys! 👍

Time for a glass of Vino, to celebrate! 1000+ posts:cheers:

Hear what you are saying Kyle, but we have all been racing long enough to be critical enough of our own performances, to know whether a bump or AI contact was 'over-the-top'.

Even with the penalties turned off, I found myself aborting races for wall bashes and AI touches, just because I knew it was either too hard a hit or too aggressive an overtaking manouver.

With the penalties turned off, it's all down to our own personal honour. Init?
And I for one, am at peace with myself over my submitted race. If I wasn't, I wouldn't have sent the E-mail to Eats. And would be driving myself more nuts, till I got a race I was able to say - " Comfortable with that, that'll do!" about.

Neil

Yeah, I know, but I'd much rather not have to "get away" with a touch here and there. I'd rather have a definite line for me to walk, of course. Who wouldn't, but yeah. This is definitely a tough race, and I have no idea how you got such a good race in Neil! Did you not have any contacts?

Oh, don't get me wrong.

In my submitted race there is some contact, with the walls and the AI. But only once was it severe enough to maybe have got a pen.

I used the maxim, If it happens in R/L racing and wouldn't be reviewed by the stewards then it's fair-game.

For example, on the run down to Upper-Mirabeau, I passed one of the cars, cleanly on the entry. But he ran into the rear-left corner of my car on the exit, his fault, I had the inside line, no foul. I didn't ram him out of the way to force the pass, so it was a fair pass.

Another time, one of them pulled alongside whilst on the run up to Massenet, and then proceeded to push me off the racing line and forced a kiss of the right-hand wall right at the apex of the right kink. He was then bounced by the impact and I carried on. Again it was his fault, he forced the impact (even though it was minor for me), he suffered. So again it was fair!

Anything big enough to shake the screen, and it was start/down/X!

The only time I had an impact that may have pulled a penalty, it was caused by the AI rubbing my rear-right corner on the run to Tabac, using the extra power they have and trying to push me off line, and then backing off suddenly.
As he backed off (just b4 the braking point) my car went into a minor tank-slapper (as the pressure was removed from the rear quarter of the car) and I ended up running wide and tapping the wall just a little harder than I would have liked.
Again, really, it was not my fault, and it wasn't that severe either, the car would have survived intact, so I can live with it.

Basically, I asked myself, if the roles were reversed and they were passing me?

Would I be pissed off by their method?
Would I try to take revenge for a forced/unfair pass?
Did I leave the door wide open?

If I can honestly say NO to the first two and YES to the third, then it's a fair pass.
If I can't do that, then it's unfair and I restarted. Even if I was 3/4 of the way through the race!

But, Hey, that's me!

Not sure if my time will be fast, or even competetive, but I am happy with it!

Neil

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Now I might actually submit something for this race! I sat down at it for an hour almost last night, and never had something clean like I had the other night. I was going along with it with just touches like you mention, but it was just pissing me off with me not knowing if I should call it ok or not. Thanks for the run through of how you ran it, now I think I can put something together(not really going to be fast, but something's better than nothing) that'll be good 'nuff on the contact front.

Thanks Neil!

i hear you, happened to me as soon as i get the game last year. the guy that fixed said that GT4 forces too much the PS2... and some newer models like mine 50001 are cheaper than the first ones built... so if it is the same thing that happeed to me, you´ll need to recalibrate the laser... hope it helps, you can´t be without GT now that the BC and th ESWC is close...

Curtis mate!

Look HERE for the method of recalibrating the laser.

Very good guide with excelent close up photos of the guts of a PS2.

and HERE for a text only one.

Haven't found one for the slimlines yet, but if yours is an older one....👍

thnx guys!!!

i will try that later on

Did you tell him the laser was on the way out before you swapped it? :sly:

Will he be knocking on your door with a mad gleam in his eye(and a big bat in his hand) at 3am?

I must either be seriously committed, or should be seriously committed!

I have ran this race to full distance at least 4-5 times, and aborted for serious wall/AI contact at least 10-15 times ( some at 3/4 distance )

Love the track, love MY car (but don't tell the misses!:scared: ), love the game!

Hate the AI, but it's comforting to have the same idiots to race against each week. I restart the race over and over to make SURE that the Alfa doesn't get into the line-up! What a pain-in-the-ass that car is! It's fast in a straight line and sh;tty round the corners, brakes too early when you are behind him, and then runs into the back of you whan you are infront!

Neil

Submitting my time. Was a pretty good race, except for the very last corner, on the very last lap where I had a spin on redish tyres and maybe lost 7-8 seconds. I don't think I'll have another chance to run so unfortunately it will have to do.
