...and then there's his rendition of Star-Spangled Banner. Wow.

@Duke, I just did a quick search for Blues After Midnight and came up empty-handed, can you share any information on it?

I really wish I did. It was a CD a friend / coworker of mine had. Could have been a bootleg, but there were liner notes. These were sessions Hendrix did as Electric Ladyland was coming online, I guess as a test of the new studio. I've never seen another copy of it, but it was really good.

Is this it? (It's a different album title, but figured I'd give it a shot)

The album was originally released in '75, but consists of recordings from the '69-'70 era. It was also released on cd in 1989, but not since so that would explain the rarity(Most of the songs have appeared on other releases since though).

Amazon has a Blues at Midnight album, I'm guessing that's the album in question. Only available from third party vendors, and quite pricey. Natch.

Hendrix, don't know what to think. Is he a legend because he was a pioneer or because he was good? When I listen to his albums I find the playing mostly just noise and nothing special. Clapton or Blackmore are much higher on my list.

Still he made some nice songs.

I dislike Clapton intensely. He only sounds good when he's pretending to be somebody else. And his original material is dull at best and outright bad at worst.

:(

I guess I see what you mean, a lot of guitarists can sound like Clapton, but not so many can sound like Hendrix. And honestly, his solo career wasn't very good, other than Unplugged, parts of Slowhand, and the song I Shot the Sheriff, (Which was a cover of a Bob Marley song, as you probably know) there isn't really much that's all that great. Still, his work with Cream, Derek and the Dominos, and The Yardbirds is just great. There was also Blind Faith, but they didn't really do much. Then there's While My Guitar Gently Weeps, which is just spectacular. All of this just being my opinion, of course.
