@discussions:

Guys, you're taking this in a too seriously way, this thread deserves to be locked.

Rocker, talk to Jordan via PM, i'm not indenting to play the pacifist but I think that if you didn't like his attitude at all, talk to him in an educated manner as you would do in person. I'm sure everyone here is grown up enough to solve this little episode and move on, GTP is dedicated to our passion for the game and automobiles after all, at least that's what I'm used to think. ;)

Cheers

Tokyo,

At no time did I 'scream' nor did I claim 'I found it first', nor did I even ask for any resolution. I claimed only the right to publicly point out that it happened. An apology would be nice, but for my purposes, is unnecessary. I made a public statement, wow, now look at this thread.

However, I do agree Jordan can do whatever he wants with his own site. (is that the third time I said so?)

At this point, I am amazed at the protests against a member making such a simple comment about it at all.

There's a section called Site Feedback, use it. Did you really expect people to be happy to see the GT5 section cluttered with this? Use site feedback if you wish to publicly make a complaint for whatever reason it may be.

I PMed a moderator when I was not happy, and it didn't turn out how I liked so I then used site feedback and I still didn't get the result which I still to this day think is perfectly reasonable but I went through a much better process rather then posting it in an unrelated section which also happens to be the busiest.

Yeah, now look at it. That's what happens when you publicly whine about some personal issue you have with GTP staff, and post off-topic in one of the most popular sections of GTP at the moment.

Dan,

I don't know Jordan and don't presume to know his attitude. He has built probably the best GT resource on the internet, and as such, it has value to me. I commend him for his effort and accomplishment. I don't have any expectation of behavior, but I do think one of the mods fails in their discretionary abilities. There is no "episode", just a public statement.

Some of you get your panties in a bunch over the most pathetic things sometimes!!! I want an apology from Jordan for a video link I put up, I want an apology from Jordan because PD delayed GT5, I want an apology from Jordan because I wasn't born to rich parents......blah blah blah blah blah blah. Build a bridge and get over it people.

So, there is no difference between "whining" and pointing out an inconsistency. I disagree.

Secondly, I already explained the rationale for the specific positioning of the post.

If it wasn't for the people in it, GTPlanet would be nothing.

No, GTPlanet would be a forum with a lot less people in it, and that's it. It would still exist, still be there on a search engine, everything.

And it's the people who pay for Premium who keep this site going since their memberships pay the bills.

You are whining. You felt that you were slighted by something somebody, who in all likelihood wasn't even remotely thinking about your thread and it being locked, did on their own website. He has nothing to apologize for. Stop caring about the internet.

True but you have to realize that GTPlanet will teach you more then enough for you to become a competitive driver. Hell competing in the WRS League has taught me then watching Best Motoring and Hot Version dvds. The knowledge that the members have in the community is way between anyone's expectations.

*piano chat improv* ThreeThree....ThreeThree......ThreeThree.....ThreeThreeThree.......mother 🤬 THREE!! This guy's serious about the number three!! :D:lol:

Not disagreeing with that at all Shigegaki. The WRS has been great for quite a few years, since the GT4 days. 👍

The number of people around here that consider "stop whining" to be an argument is incredible.

You are whining.

Define the term, and objectively show that my statement constitutes such, without assuming my values, character, or motivation have any similarity to yours whatsoever.

If you cannot do this, then you are only railing from behind a keyboard without the ability to back yourself up. In which case you make yourself irrelevant per the Internet, which possibly is your intention anyway.

Oops, I think there is a misunderstand from what I typed out. I should of just typed out I agree with you. HAHA

Well I already have given you the reasons in this post, and you haven't given me a response from my reasons, so really, you are whining. And that's with knowing your motivation to make this whiney thread.

Do you expect some sort of dignified response when you didn't even type his name correctly?:p

Moving this to the Site Feedback forum...

Rocker
Why is it OK for you to get all the thanks for posting such a fun video for everyone to appreciate, but its NOT okay for me to post that exact same video?
  • The "Hitler" video was uploaded to YouTube in June of 2009. I don't know when I first saw it, though it was probably here, the first time it was posted on the site. You posted your thread on January 31, 2010. Even if I had seen your thread, it would not have been the first time I had seen the video.
  • The Acceptable Use Policy prohibits the use of profanity in the forums, because I want to encourage a more intelligent, sophisticated level of discussion here. I don't consider occasional videos or images containing profanity to be a problem, because it doesn't really have an impact on the community. If complaints are received, though, a moderator is more likely to take action. In this case, they did by quietly removing your thread.
  • I posted the video on the blog because I anticipated GT5 would the joke du jour for many gaming sites out there this year. I did not want people to come to GTPlanet for verification of a story only to be mislead by yet another hoax. Instead, I opted to post the only other "funny" GT-related thing I could remember. I expected someone to question the language in the video, but I'm not concerned because it will have no impact on the quality of forum posts.

So I take it that it's OK to break the rules as long as nobody complains or you're above the people who can take action.
There is no need to be spiteful or sarcastic. The real issue here is how the profanity rule should be clarified and/or how it could be more consistently enforced.

@Jordan

You make a very diplomatic response, and confirms my initial assessment of the chain of events.

In this case, per your stated discretion, the Fallen video in itself does not warrant a deletion. Your conclusion is that there needs to be more consistency, which validates my position. Thanks for acknowledging what I am pointing out. The mod made a snap decision that created an inconsistent application of rule. Naturally being on the receiving end, I voiced my concern. As far as I am concerned, this topic is now closed.

Everyone please deposit your empty popcorn bags into the trash receptacle as you exit this thread.

Cleared up in my opinion. And i loved the way must of you were winning because another member was winning. That was hilarious:lol:!

My opinion: Rocker had all the right to point out his discontentment. Everyone should state their opinions about the way the forum is beeing managed and moderated.

It was more like this:

A video, featuring profanity was removed from the forums, as per the AUP rules, I.E no profanity.

Jordan posted a video, not on the forums, but on his own webpage, featuring a video with profanity, incidentally the same one that was deleted from the forums.

Perhaps I am missing something here, but I don't see any problem in the rules.

The rule stating no profanity is for the forums and the forums only, there is no rule about the main GTPlanet page, mainly because the only person I know who ever posts there is Jordan.

Considering there was already a thread about said video, yours was redundant... Deletion/merging/locking makes sense.

You are correct - I did not "break the rules" by posting the video, as the AUP's language is very specific:

AUP
You will not use profanity in our forums...
The problem with this rule, however, is that it is inflexible and nearly impossible to enforce consistently. Thread redundancy aside, the video in question is an excellent example of a highly relevant and appropriate piece of content which contains unavoidable profanity. The profanity rule should be flexible enough to allow situations like this to occur without placing a moderator in an uncomfortable position. Removing it seems almost draconian, yet to leave it alone is to ignore an AUP violation. Neither choice is really good for the moderators or the community, and more sophisticated wording should be used to handle this kind of nuance.
