My other thread was getting HUGE and loaded with everything about my Camaro. Now its time for Heathers 67 Mustang to see some of the spotlight.
This is an open event so you can also attend. The track is 2 miles long and has 12 turns and a half mile straight away.

If we have the extra money I might bring my Camaro to this event too. How cool would that be??! Heather with her Mustang and me with my Camaro on the track together!! :dopey: No matter what we are at least taking the Mustang.
There will be 3 or 4 groups.

...God what a great track. As I've said before I've been around it quite a few times, really a blast to be on. Shes a lot trickier than how the map makes her look, mostly because of the evelation changes, and offset corners.

I went to this track once about 5-6 years ago with my 96 Formula. Absolutely awesome track. The group I went with only rented half the track but it was the good half. Tons of elevation changes and you can get air in a few spots. I would love to flog the Camaro out there but to see Heather out there having fun will be priceless. Shes going to have soo much fun. :)
I wish I could find some better pics of the track but their site isnt that good.

...No thier site isnt, and it really is sad because the track is used so often. So far, the best description of the track was in the Car and Driver article where they reviewd the Corvette Z06 against the Viper SRT-10 Coupe... Talked a bit about the uneven surface that upset the Z06, often causing the end to come loose...

So how is the Mustang coming along? Last I recall I think you were putting in floor pans? Is the I6 still in there?

You might want some new (wide) tires for it to be able to enjoy the track time more.

Yes it still has the I6. Our plan was to keep it as stock as possible then sell it to get a fastback within 5 years. So we probably wont put a lot into this car. Just enough to have fun.
The Mustang is no where near ready. It is the most rusty car I have worked on in my life. I taught Heather how to weld so it makes it lot easier to get the car done since both of use will start working on it. The floor is pretty much all welded in just need to put a few patch pieces in. She tach welded the driver rear quarter on but we need to finish welding then finish it. Need to replace passenger quarter. We have a brand new passenger fender pretty much bolted up. I need to get the new alt working. Need to get the fuel pump to suck gas from the tank. Found a kinked line at the tank so it should work now. Need new wheels and tires. Brakes. I will put a list in the first post and update with the progress. Lots to do and not much money right now to do it with. The good news is that we have 2 months to get it ready. The only thing slowing us down is money. I could probably get the car done in a week or 2 if I had everything.
Thanks for asking. I am sure Heather will be checking this thread once in a while to see what everyone sais. :)

With a new suspension, stiffened chassis, and new tires and brakes I'm sure she will have a lot of fun, even without tons of horspower 👍

I wish there were more tracks around here, I would love to be able to have some fun in my car in a safe, controlled environment.

Yeehar!

Sounds like it'll be a fun day for sure.

Make sure you take your camera and post up a few videos when you're done, like you did with your Camaro thread.

I look forward to seeing them. 👍

UPDATE on Heathers mustang. 5/2/06 :)
Last night went real well. The fuel pump sucks gas from the tank. Thats great news!! I had to replace a kinked rubber hose at the rear of the car in front of the gas tank. I also welded in a patch piece for the driver fender to cover up a huge rust hole. We will get a new driver fender before we paint the car but for now this is better than a huge hole. While I was welding the front fender, Heather removed her headliner and after that she unbolted the front shocks. She also did some more welding on the rear driver quarter. Might not sound like much but it was a very successful night and it was great to hear the car running again. This time it was running off of the gas tank. :)
Next step is to make sure the carburetor will hold gas over night. If it doesnt we will get a new one. We also have to connect one last wire for the alternator to get that working. After that we could start driving the car!!!
Now I can update the list in the first post.

UPDATE 5/4/06
We just got some fantastic news last night! Heathers brother and mom pitched in together and got us a carburetor as an early birthday present. :dopey: It should be here today and I will install it tonight after work. Heather finished repairing the patch panel on the driver fender last night. Added fiberglass and smoothed it all out. Not bad for her first time using fiberglass. We are so happy about the carb!! Update list time.
Tomorrow we pick up valve cover gasket, shocks, and hopefully our alternator problem will be resolved by the weekend. If we are lucky we will be able to take it for a good drive this weekend.

Looks like a great track (and from the sounds of it very challenging too). Hope you two get the car ready and have a great time!

Thanks amp88. We are very excited and cant wait to go!
Update 5/8/06
1. Got the alternator working 100%. Had a good friend check it out and there was a hot wire grounding out. He cut it and the alt start working right away!
2. Completely finished the body work on the front driver fender hole.
3. Cut the rear passenger quarter off the car and mocked up the new one.
4. Got a brand new carb but it was bad so now we need another one. Its the first time in my life that a brand new carb did not work right out of the box.
Our plan tonight is to tach weld the pass quarter on, bolt on the front shocks, and take the car for its first official LONG drive down to the lake and mabey watch the sunset. :) :) 👍

sounds like you are making good progress, keep up the great work 👍

what tires/wheels are you putting on it ???

DRIFT GOD

Thank you.
It helps considering Heather and I are both doing this together. We only have until June 30th (Heathers birthday) so we try to do a little every day.
wheels/tires
I would love to stuff 18" aluminum wheels/ tires under the car because that would be the best route for cornering. However financially we just cant right now so we will probably just buy some 14" chrome wheels. It wont corner anywhere near as good as it would with 18" wheels but she can still have some fun!! Believe me, if we had the money it would have 18" wheels. The other bad part is it is currently only 4 lug. We would have to convert to 5 lug to stuff 18" wheels.

Oh no kidding. We will have to keep an eye on that. I dont know much about mustangs so we are learning every day. Thanks for the info.

Four lug...i always thought the '67s were Five lug....especially V8 models...

EDIT: oh, you've got the Six.

I would also like to see it in a game so Heather and I could practice before our events. :)

Just figured I would give an update on the wheel situation. We bought 2 wheels last night from Discount tire. They should be here by next week. They were only around $50.00 each. Her bolt pattern was 4 - 4 1/2. We just bought some cheap chrome Cragar directional wheels. They will look way better than the ugly rust colored ones we have and we will have almost 2" more rubber in width. We can fit a 245/60-14 on the rear and around 234/60-14 on the front.
I guess Cragar was bought out by Unique so technically they are Unique wheels. We are very excited and cant wait to see them on the car! :D
We also got the pass quarter tach welded on last night and got 1 shock bolted up.

update time.
Lots of really good progress has been happening to the Mustang in the last few weeks. The best news happened yesterday. I put a new accelerator diaphram in the carburetor and now the car finally doesnt leak gas out. It also runs a lot better!! That was very exciting news!! We can actually leave the car sit for 15 minutes and re-start it without pouring gas in the carb again.
The most important part we need right now is a new radiator. I just spent $175.00 on reinforcement for the front end since those mustangs are sooooo weak. Wheels and reinforcement pieces wont be here until next week.
UPDATED LIST IS IN FIRST POST

Update 5-25-06
Last night we made some great progress. I completely finished welding the driver rear quarter on!! I know it sounds like nothing but its quite a bit of work. Took me about an hour and a half of straight welding to get it done. Our goal is to get both the passenger and driver quarters completely finished over this long holiday weekend. That includes welding, grinding, fiberglass and finishing.

Well its time for another update.
Last night was another good night. Our brand new radiator arrived and we got it bolted up with no problems at all. Actually Heather removed the old one and installed the new one. :) After that I decided to install the new tranny filter and put new fluid in. That also went well. Dirty job but at least its all done. Right after that it quit raining and the sun came out. Soooo we decided to take the car for a drive around the block. Felt soo much better with all brand new shocks and the other goodies we recently installed. We both had a huge smile :). Car is running a little rough but that could be some of the old bad gas still sucking thru the carb. We will try to drive it more and more to work the bugs out. Hopefully 2 of the 4 wheels will be in tomorrow so we can get those bolted up.

Sounds like it's all coming together nicely. 👍

Got any pics of the 'Stang to post up, or are you going to wait 'til she's all done?

Thank you yes we have been working our butts off.
I will get some pics once we have the entire car in primer. Right now it looks extremely bad. Many on this site wouldnt even understand what they are looking at. Our wheels are supposed to be here today. They are 3 weeks late. We plan on driving the Mustang all weekend long to get some real miles on it. Once we get all 4 new wheels and its primered, I will start driving it to work. :dopey: Oh and so will Heather. Her race event is the end of this month!! Friday June 30th.

This weekend was absolutely killer!! We made a lot more progress. All 4 of our wheels arrived on friday. That was a great surprise and very unexpected. They told us only 2 would be in but actually all 4 arrived. So we mounted them on the car right away on friday. The car has a completely different attitude and appearance with the new wheels and tires. I was really shocked how well it looks now compared to before. Now for the even better news.
We drove the car for several hours and its running awesome!!! I am surprised how well it moves with only a straight 6. We tried on saturday to go for a ride but the front end was out of alignment way too much. It was an inch off! So I spent about 2 hours aligning the front end myself. Turned out great so far. We also got our 5 point seat belt bolted in. We are only going to use the 4 points instead of all 5. What a great weekend!!! We had a hard time getting to sleep last night after we drove the car. All the hard work is finally paying off. :D

I guess the bad news is followed with Good news. We have decided to take both the 67 Mustang and the 69 Camaro to the road track event that is held on July 28th at Grattan. :) I guess now we get an extra month to finish anything that needs to be finished on the Mustang.
