Just a question about closed threads

Threads are closed either because that thread's subject has been talked about before, the thread has gone way off topic or the topic made is to silly or pointless to talk about. That way we can keep GTP more tidy and easy to use.

G.T has it right, as nearly always.

By far, most threads are closed because they are duplicates of common subjects. We really prefer not to waste the effort of reinventing the wheel every time someone posts a thread without looking for the answer themselves. We'd rather that energy gets put into extending the existing discussion.

Other threads get closed because they are simply pointless and clutter up an already-crowded forum. And some threads are closed because they violate the rules of the forum, though those threads are most often simply moved to a non-public "recycling" board.

Just picking up on this point. I tend to leave threads that are an offense closed and in-place, so that the rest of the user community can piece together what it was that got the thread closed, and hopefully learn from it.

The threads that are offensive I recycle.
