Played the game this morning and noticed that the thumbnails for certain cars were missing, game seemed really slow and clunky after 2.03, took longer than usual to load between screens etc etc. Not blaming the update I hasten to add, then the game froze a couple of times this morning. After the second reset it reverted to day 0. I had 378 days, 120 cars, 4 million credits and all the DLC.

Warning signs for me were .. 1) Load times much slower. 2) Thumbnails for cars missing in the garage. 3) Stuttering of the cursor when moving it about. 4) Music cutting out. 5) When selecting a car no engine start up sound.

If you see any of those more than once I recommend deleting your game data and re-loading. My game reset on only the second reset after freezing. The game data was corrupted on checking the game save folder.

Luckily I have Playstation Plus so a save from a few days ago means I haven't lost that much, I deleted the game data and am currently re-downloading but on a 0.7 MB connection its slower than my ex wife in a spelling competition.

Just thought it might be a useful heads up for others, perhaps newer players, if I did not have online storage I would have lost the lot. And that would have miffed me just a little bit.

Anyone else had the above problems since 2.03 ??

^^OP-Thanks for that.
For me OCD is not another place to get cars!! 3 usb memory sticks, never save over previous game data, always back up to memory stick after every visit - rotate memory sticks and rename PS3 folder with date. A couple of minutes after each session is better than starting again or a few Levels back.

It happened to me once - I dropped back from L39 to L37 and this was before I was online and able to cash in on the x3 cr & level cash cow!!!

I'd recommend backing up your save rather than resinstalling unless you obviously need to. Deleting the install will delete all saved replays and in-game photos. My game has frozen once after 2.03 but nothing out of the ordinary.

Ouch !!

Most annoying thing is having to download all thirteen updates on a 0.7 MB connection !!, perhaps I should have seen the warning signs a bit earlier but I am fortunate in having my saves on-line. Would have been heartbreaking to have to go back and start it all over again !!

I don't think the 2.03 update had anything to do with it, it was a great addition to the game but my game was running slower and just seemed clunky after it. If others are having symptoms such as above I would just delete and re-load the game data.

Might save a lot of heartbreak.

I had a problem yesterday where the cursor randomly froze on the GT Mode menu, glowing blue as if it was loading forever.

Nice thread Hakagure high on info low on drama. Perfect. My gut feeling is this is isolated, but if this becomes a bigger deal info like this is useful. I back up when I remember and right after I read a thread like this. I lost a month of play when I activated PS+ auto save and it uploaded an old save over my current one upon activation. Lost almost all of the half price 0 mile deals from the OCS. Only just got the F1 GTR back actually.

Yup I think its isolated as well, I have had the game since last July and this is the first such problem I have encountered. Thanks for the heads up on the PS auto save, haven't had any problems with it so far but to lose a month of play .. that's gotta hurt. My online save took me back a few days so I think I have lost the latest DLC car pack and Route X that I bought yesterday. Have to see if I can re-download from PSN.

And having to download all 13 updates is a bit much, its going to take me all day on my connection. Only on number 6 and three of them have been over 300MB already.

I've been backing up before every update and DLC purchase. But I think I'll start backing up more often now.
This - and also making sure I have close to 20million cr just in case a lucrative seasonal disappears.......do the words "Enzo", "Sarthe" and "chicane" ring any bells??!!!:guilty:

Thanks for the heads up again, tomorrow i go out and purchase a USB stick, and mark it just for GT5. Because i have yet to back up since its release, back in 2010.

This reminds me, I need to backup my save.... I have 1088 cars, level 40 in A and B spec, have 99k miles driven, and 2267 days played on it... never backed it up before

Are you using wireless? A LAN connection will speed up data transfer.

Have to use wireless. The PS3 is upstairs in my man pad room, the Home Hub router is downstairs at the phone line connection, no way I could use a wired connection.

Tried everything else and nothing works, my connection here in the north of Scotland is between 0.3 and 0.7 MB. I have never cracked even 1MB on a speedtest !!

That was a Playstation problem, not a GT5 problem.

Are you on one of the older PS3's? I'd be preparing for a YLOD, that's exactly what my PS3 did before mine.

No I have a 320GB slim that I have only had since July. But I did recently buy a vertical stand for it and since being stuck on end it has frozen a few times on MW3, Uncharted and 3 and now GT5. Binned the stand, probably nothing to do with it but we shall see if I still get the same problems now its gone.

Make sure it's clear from dust, even around the sides, I have a cat so I have to clean mine from time to time

Would like to add, I downloaded the new DLC yesterday, went back on GT5 to find that my save file had reset. I still had DLC cars and tracks but all my cars and gear were gone along with being level 0/0 with 20,000 cr.

Losing the 340 cars doesn't bother me much as I only use GT5 for online race series nowadays but I thought I'd let you guys know. I wasn't convinced it was an isolated issue, there were no corrupted files or anything.

I'm having all those symptoms you just mentioned for a while now OP.

I might have to back my save up now. This will deal a serious blow to me if it happens.

Thanks for the heads up.

Ya know bro im havin issues like that with the slimline too. all my games occasionally freeze GT5 has it's issues like the cursor may not appear or i get bricked for no reason like it will sign me out of PSN. i reset modem and turn off everything and it still bricks my GT5 but other games will play.however all my games occasionaaly freeze on this slim. way more than my FatBoy PS3 ever did. hope none of u r playin skyrim as it will freeze at the most inoppurtune times.

I had the same problem with my PS3 and GT.

I also had trouble with the free games we got from SCEE after the black out. Jumpy music and general clonkyness. Play TV would also be jumpy and wouldn't record shows properly. Also, the fan got very loud.

I had owned my (2nd) PS3 for just under a year before it started acting this way (320gb slim).

I contacted Sony and they promptly replaced it free of charge.

I reckon that if you delete files often (Play TV programs no longer needed, repeat deletion of save data for duping), it makes bad sectors on the HDD.
The machine then begins to run very badly and slowly.

Thats my story. Hope it helps.

I believe GT5 menu performance, etc. is affected by online issues (server load, connectivity, etc.); at least that is what has been reported. As you say you are on a rather slow connection; therefore, longer loading times every now and then could be caused by said bandwidth.

What you should not do is reset the console while it is obviously still doing something, e.g. processing game saves. This eventually will result in a broken save; of course, it is always recommended to backup game saves.

You probably also want to take a look at this:
http://us.playstation.com/support/answer/index.htm?a_id=1488

Restore File System - Attempts to repair all areas on the hard disk drive where files can be saved. Corrupted data may be erased if it cannot be recovered.

Rebuild Database - Deletes messages, playlists, changes made on [Information] screens, trimming information for pictures in [Photo], video thumbnails, video playback history and video resume information.
This operation may take a long time depending on the type and number of data items.

Well I finally got all the updates downloaded. The save that was made yesterday, the one I downloaded from my online storage with PS Plus has had some weird side effects. It showed me in a WRC car that I have not used in ages, no profile pic, most thumbnails wrong or missing, DLC Car Pack 1 all present and correct but DLC Car Pack 2 are showing in my garage exactly as I left them but if I select them it tells me I need to re-download the pack, they have the yellow exclamation mark icon next to them too. Bit strange. The game does seem to be running smoother when I open the garage and click between icons though.

Some good info here so I have read and inwardly digested, gave the machine a good clean and hoover to get it free of dust ( I also recently moved house so it may have copped a jolt during the move) I am not too sure what happened but I will be backing up my save onto a data stick from now on.

Last weekend the next farmhouse across the hill from us had a fire on it's power cables. This caused a prolonged powercut for us which was inconvenient but bearable. When I got home from work the next day I fired up GT5 only to find my game was completely corrupted and I've had to start again from scratch. I was at level 37! Needless to say I'd never backed up. Lesson learned!

gt5 freezes occasionally on the online menu, but the animation in the background is still running. i only froze once or twice online, and, yes, the cursor ceases up. the engine sound is sometimes delayed but i always hear it when i change the car (the long way).

Ahhh man. I've got the problem of choppy music during online sessions and slow load times. I always do backups before starting the game everyday so that should be fine.
