So, after constantly putting off buying a PC racing sim and wheel I've finally made the jump. I got the DFP for £25 and GTR Evolution & Race 07 for £9.99.

I think my PC should be able to handle it, specs below:

Windows XP (latest service pack)
Pentium 4 3.21ghz
2GB RAM
nVidia Geforce 7600 GT 256mb RAM.
16GB Free hard drive space.

Couple of questions:

Are there any updates or mods that I should download?
What other "must" buy racing sims does everyone recommend.

Looking forward to comparing the physics to GT4 & GT5p, and some smooth online racing (once I'm used to the wheel anyway)

The DFP is a great wheel, although the pedals could be a little better, but it's a great start and of course works on the PS3 as well as the PC.

As for Downloads and addons for Race..

The official STCC is great.

Also take a look at http://www.nogripracing.com/ in the download section and http://www.virtualr.net/ for inspiration..

other must buys for me would be GTL from simbin it's old and starforce protected but it's acracking laugh if you like the older car sets.

you can if you own this, import the lot into GTR EVO with the right mod kit.

Don't miss the mid ohio and virtual le mans tracks ..

have fun.

also, the dfp gets VERY noisy over time. you won';t notice it too much, but if you have any family or friends near by, they will...
Live for speed would be good. if you want some of the best physics. Try the NetKar Pro Demo as well. rFactor has a ton of tracks and content. The top sim right now imo is iRacing.

Check out NoGrip first of all, and join up there.

I recommend you try out the following mods:

FVR V8 2008 Aussie Racing Series
GTL Mod Full Install TC-65 GTC-65 GTC-TC-76
BMW M3 Challenge
GTR2GT (Only half working though, still worth it)

Ofcourse pretty much all the tracks are good, but it depends on what suits you. Post back on what you like, and I'll hit you up with a list of what's good.

Well that's plenty to get me started, looking forward to racing with a wheel as I've always used a pad.

Just browsed a few forums and didn't realise just how many mods are available. Really excited now.
