I watched this film today, all 132 minuets of it. The film stars Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson as two Russian naval captains, Neeson plays Mikhail Polenin and Ford plays Alexei Vostrikov. The film follows the maiden voyage of the Russian nuclear submarine K19, though it's not long before the ship get's tagged "the widowmaker".

Based on real events this is brilliantly told story about two captains on a doomed ship, one loyal to the party, the other to the crew. The nuclear reactor system starts to leak in a sealed off area, and it becomes a race of time where the men have to pull together and show true courage and sacrifice.

A very good drama, worthy of the 2 hours+ of my time.

Easily worth the 2 hours+.. A very very good movie indeed !...

My friend worked on that movie. It was shot here in Toronto. I got to walk through the entire submarine set, which was in pieces so they could move parts of it around for different scenes, etc. Pretty cool. The movie wasn't bad either.

I bet it was cool walking around a movie set, did you see any of the actors or was it in quiet time?

No but my friend got a photo of Harrison Ford signed, and on another movie he got me Viggo Mortensen's signature on the cover of my Return of the King DVD. I also was lucky enough to be invited to a wrap party, where I saw Ray Romano, Fred Savage, and even got to meet my favourite actor of all time, Gene Hackman. The movie was Welcome to Mooseport, which I never saw, but it was filmed in many parts of northern Ontario.

My friend also worked on the remake of Dawn of the Dead, and I got to see the mall props and set for that movie, and he was involved with Exit Wounds as well, and though I never saw any actors or parts of the sets, I did get a pair of FBI gold-rimmed aviator shades, the same as the ones the actors wore in the movie. Then one day I sat on them and they were no more.

Must be good at times having a mate who's involved in the movies. The closest to film stars I get is living near most of the Coronation street cast .

is this the one where the guys walk into the reactor part ot fix it? Then they get all bubbly and messed up due to the radiation?

I've seen this movie but i always get K19, U571 and the hunt for the red october all mixed up :dunce:

Yeah this is the one where they have to go into the radiation to fix it and their skin burns.

But you don't ever get Crimson tide mixed up eh ;), that's another good submarine film if you haven't seen it.

Sorry live4speed, I hated this film. :D It might've been because I was expecting another "Hunt for the Red October" or something. It was quality work, but was boring as hell for me. Kind of reminds me of Enemy at the Gates".

I love Raymond, Gene Hackman is one of my favorite actors, Dawn of the Dead Remake is my favorite zombie movie of all time.......... so yes, I AM JEALOUS!

My Hollywood moments(just 2): At the Blazers(NBA Basketball) game, they announced that Tommy Lee Jones and Benicio Del Toro were there at the game. After the game, they both were BSsing with the Blazers Staff by the Players/Staff entrance, which happened to be right by where I was sitting. All these losers(people who were going "Benicio, who's that?" then "Benicio, I love you!" ) were being ignored, then I yelled out "Mr. Jones!". Tommy Lee looked over and walked over to where I was, shook my hand, "Hey, how are you doing". I did the usual when I meet famous people, I said "uhhhhhh..... I love your movies". I think I said the same to Benicio. I'm such a loser. When I shook hands with Oasis guitarist, Gem, I couldn't even open my mouth, so it was a improvement. :D

2nd encounter was with the mechanic guy, whose job was to build vehicles for movies. He was telling us about how they couldn't lease our local train(tram?), so they were building one out of busses. The movie was Hunted( 👎 ), and it sure looked like a real train to me.

Hey you don't have to apoligise for having poor taste ;), I mean different taste.

Regarding meeting famouse people, I'm more inclided to say something along the lines of "It must be a real honour for you to get to meet me", it got a laugh from John Thompson the first time I met him.

I get the feeling that you are not talking about the famous Georgetown Basketball Headcoach. That's pretty funny though. I gotta come up with something like that. :D
