So, I was lucky enough to get the game early, thanks to my retailer who sent it on Sunday :D. Of course to start with I bought a car, did the B license and a few A-Spec races, but then I decided to try something else...

As soon as I started the first kart race, my face lit up like a Christmas tree. I know it's only a small and simple part of GT5, but boy is it fun. 12 karts all racing together on a tiny track is so exciting, ducking and weaving between them has probably been my best experience on GT5 so far. Driving from "cockpit" view in a kart with a steering wheel makes you feel like you're there. Of course there is still much of the game to go, so hopefully GT5 has many more pleasant surprises in store for me.

Anyone else have any thoughts on the karting?

Can't wait to play it for myself tomorrow, which is actually today because it's past midnight. :dopey:

And yet the guys at gamespot played in chase game, and looked bored...they don't know how to play driving games properly

I watched that too and it really annoyed me. The guys seemed like idiots. I mean, the one who was playing was like "how do I turn the music off?" and went to options, when there is clearly a music icon right there in GT Home. I am not looking forward to their review... :nervous:

I'm looking forward most to this feature. I have been kart racing for the past 3 years (just got into it) and it's SO much different from my autocrossing experiences. People say that my s2000 'feels' like a kart, but being in an actual kart racer is different (for obvious reasons). I won't be able to play it anytime soon (unforutnately) but I have a few questions:

1. Are there any options to 'tune' the kart?
2. How are the braking physics for the kart? Easy spin outs for braking in turns?
3. How does the momentum-carry feel?
4. Can we change colors to the frame? :D

Can you do bumper cam in karts? That must be fun!

Yes you can! I started out like that but I prefer cockpit view for the karts because it makes me feel like I'm driving it. Bumper cam is still good though :)

1.) No, sorry.
2.) From my limited karting experience, I would say the physics are good. It is definitely easy to spin out if you turn too hard or brake too hard etc.
3.) Good, as with all cars in GT5.
4.) Yes! You can buy a kart in loads of different colours, or paint it yourself :) and you have the best view of the driver in a kart too, so you will want to choose your outfit wisely :sly:

EDIT: You can also change the number and style of the number on the kart. 4 different styles, 99 different numbers.

karting is def a blast. i want to do karts vs supercars on a super tight track

Only if they had the 250 Super Karts in there.

Lawson would've qualified 8th (I think) overall at an ALMS race at Laguna Seca one year! Was the best show of the weekend.

Karts are twitchy / light on the steering and skid easily. Great fun and less serious. Shame they can't be tuned. Online karting is a great thing. Although it keeps making me think of turtle shells being fired up the track!

Thanks Emu76, Karting sounds like a blast can't wait to try it out when I get my hands on GT5.

This is one of the features I'm most excited about. I did a few years of karting before time/money became tight, and I loved it. So now, for the price of a couple tires, I'm able to kart whenever it's convenient! Looking forward to some online karting.

I don't believe karts are open immediately - am I wrong? If not, what must be done to open karts?

I'm not sure kart racing will be the most exciting way to race, but definately a new and fresh concept.

I think karts are available on level 0 or 1 so so its quite immediate to start playing.. and cost is 5000 credits to buy one.

I'm pretty sure karts can only race with other karts.

Also, your speeling and grammar need work.

Oh the irony :sly:

And yes, Karts are probably my favourite part of the game so far, I thought they wouldn't be that great but they are epic with the steering wheel! 👍

You get given a kart at the end of the National-B licences I think. Either that or the Clubman Cup. Either way, I got given one, and those are the two parts I've completed.

The karting is really well done. The feeling of insanity you get when you hold the throttle wide open for ages is a perfect match for my own karting experience. Handling is well modelled too, I would say.

Ah ha ha - just tried the Karts for the first time on the sunday challenge.

Awesome stuff, I was used to racing with the big cars - but on my first kart race - I got caught up in the pack and spun around, I recovered, sped in to the first corner too fast, tried to slow down too fast and spun again... I was then lapped by the leaders, on the second lap!

I learned to ease back a bit on my next go and won gold, should get interesting on the tracks where you have to try and push it to the limit, with tight corners etc.

The karts are much better than I thought they would be. Loving the first person view too (and the noises)

I race karts and i have to say they nailed the physics on this. So far the most fun i've had with the game so far.

Can't wait to try out the Karts, I did a small amount of Karting a year or so ago, hopefully I'm better at virtual Karting!! Haha

Is the Siena Track in the game or did they lose it?

I haven't come across it yet, and I've done all the beginner and intermediate kart races. My gut feeling is no, it's been removed from the game sadly.

Be sure to get OUT of your kart before doing the Rally Tarmac challenges, although its funny seeing your Kart lining up at the rally start ;P

Its one of the first licences I think. I was given it as my first prize car.

I think its very fun the karting. Great little feature though I've only tried on 2 tracks at the moment.
