Karting is really fun. The sensation of speed from being so low to the ground is very well done, and quite impressive on a large television.

👍

Karting is fun, but the whole race is determined by whether or not an opponet nails you. If you can run a clean race you're pretty much guaranteed a first place finish, but if you get sideswiped, rammed from behind, or sometimes even just a gentle nudge, your kart goes flying and the next thing you know you're 15 seconds behind the pack.

The karting physics also lit up my face. To be honest, i didnt think it could be pulled off but wow, what an awesome surprise:tup:

Its one of the first licences I think. I was given it as my first prize car.

I think its very fun the karting. Great little feature though I've only tried on 2 tracks at the moment.

I think it's actually a prize for reaching A-Spec Level 1.

Karts are just awesome in this....love than handling, feels so life like......I spin just as much in the game as in reality under kart braking LOL :dopey::)

You get given a kart at the end of the National-B licences I think. Either that or the Clubman Cup. Either way, I got given one, and those are the two parts I've completed.

The karting is really well done. The feeling of insanity you get when you hold the throttle wide open for ages is a perfect match for my own karting experience. Handling is well modelled too, I would say.
I got mine for reaching level 1, which is a shame because when I bought my first car I bought a kart with my spare change in anticipation of my first kart race. I won a Yaris for passing the Nationa B license, only passed on bronze at the moment, I'm not going to try all golds until I've done a few races.

They're great fun though, the races are fast but so far they aren't too difficult. I've done the beginner and intermediate races, not unlocked the advanced ones yet. They spin pretty easilly if you hit a wall or other kart hard or if you brake or turn too hard they spin very fast and it's hard to recover once the back starts to go.

The Camera movement in karts really make it. Especially when you crash, you get a sense of being wrenched from your seat.

Out of curiosity, how many people commenting on the karting have driven a 100cc kart? The ones I've driven certainly didn't handle like in the game; the back wheels should lock up straight away even in a straight line, it's (relatively) very difficult to slide one without being speared off into the barrier and kerbs don't suck the kart in quite like they should.

Genuinely interested as I've only raced club 100 which, while fun, are restricted and have concrete tyres. The karts in GT5 seem to handle much more like rent-a-karts rather than competition ones, at least from my (limited) experience.

Karting owns!

I haven't had that big of a smile since... *censored for the kids. :p*

I think it's a great addition to the GT universe.

sense of speed is tremendous and I love the way the karts handle! 👍

It was such a surprise... I had such a big grin on my face the whole time driving... I'm sure I looked like a duface. glad no one was around.

I made an account here just so I could comment on how great the online kart racing is. I made a room and had about 15-20 races with on average about 12 drivers in each race. Probably some of the most fun I've had in any online game ever.

I was a little dubious when i first read that GT5 was to have karts in it. Previous games i've played that have modeled karting have never done it well. Karts are all about seat-of-your-pants and steering feel and that's just not something you can realistically simulate in a game, even with a force feedback wheel, but PD have done a cracking job of representing it IMO. Controlling them, especially on turn-in with brake and throttle movements is absolutely spot on 👍

My only gripe is that the tracks i've come across so far (the two first stage ones) are not very kart track-like and far too wide. It could really do with some narrow switchback courses as that's what they tend to be.

I haven't tried the carts yet (or much of anything yet), but concerning the too wide for karts tracks, how narrow a track can one make in the track editor? Maybe that will resolve this problem?

Karting is great!

I hope PD notices how popular it is online and gives us some more karts as DLC or something. I would also like more karting tracks for online use. Right now most people are racing at London or Autumn Ring.

Absolutely brilliant, they handle very realistically and the online racing is an absolute blast. I'd almost say the game was worth the money for these alone!

I LOVE THE KARTS!!!

Now I have not tried online racing yet. How is it? Is it fun or are people just bashing everyone off the course? Actually, I haven't done any online racing with any car yet. Has PD made a ranking system for it? That would be great and definitely inspire me to do a lot of racing online.

I race in Sr. TAG with a birel chasis and a rotax sr max (fr125) and i also have an invader chasis with a kt100 strapped on the back but that kart is more for anyone thats wants to tag along when i go to the track for some lapping sessions on the off weekends. But anyways the physics in my opinion are spot on. Are they perfect no but they got pretty damn close.

this is great, awesome to be had, can we race these online, i dont see the track when i go online, add me psn hurricane43 thanks much

yeah i gotta say, i am pretty damn happy with it and i grew up racin karts. another +1 for gt5 and pd.

Anyone know if it's possible to kart in the wet? Would love to see how that stacks up against the real thing as it's absolute carnage (and ridiculously funny) :D

As far as I know, the answer is no...

Unless it's somehow unlocked later in the game.

;)

right first post so bear with me
ive been racing karts just like the ones in GT5 for 8 years, so i reckoln i can comment on their accuracy in the game.
To be honest I was dissapointed, and to me it really highlights that no matter how real we may think these supercars feel to drive, they really arent like real life.
the main skill in driving a kart is to be smooth. you are smooth through many reasons, but the most important one is steering wheel control.
driving the karts in the game, you have to throw the steering around ridiculously, and you would simply end up spinning doing that in real life. a 90 degree corner requires almost no turn of the wheel, karts are extremely sensitive
another thing we often forget are the forces involved in racing. karts generate a suprising amount of g force, and require a good amount of strength to be able to hold the steering wheel stable lap after lap, and of course in the game this doesnt happen. i would imagine this is even more exaggerated in the fast cars.
yeah, so, overall the karts just dont feel that realistic to me, and im suprised at the responses. and also, im a huge GT fan, had it since day one, so dont get me wrong, i love the game.

^^

I tried karts online with some friends yesterday on autum ring mini and it was the most fun I have had yet on gt5 👍 Really intense, and the sense of speed is great :D Slipstream still little unrealistic though...

I dont know what wheel you use or if you use any wheel, but with my Fanatec wheel the karts drive quite real. Like you said, you cant use to much steering angle in the corners otherwise you will spin and the ffb is quite amazing. You directly feel that you have to use more force to steer, but at the same time you need to be smooth as hell. I already drove karts in real, maybe not as powerfull as they ingame, but i think its extremely close to the real thing.

Oh and 16 carts online at the Nordschleife is just amazing!

I race with karts for years and I assure that they did a great job. I almost get the same feeling as when I'm driving a real one.
