No it isn't cu i am back. Raced the Firecracker Twin fifties at Sugarhill. DNF cuz of a be4tn spindle in a wreck earlier in the race. My motor wouldn't get above 5 garnd in RPM so I called it quits. But THe norm for rpm is 5700 to 5800. Well I am racing this sunday which will be interesting. Cya later

I'm a bad person. I took my kart out to a parking lot with my friend and my dad and after we finished just messing around with it I drove it home on a road. My MYChron was out of batteries but I'm sure I went around 80 on the last stretch. Crazyness.

I havn't DRIVEN in soooo long it's been pissing me off! There have been so many other things happening like work, my car, work, and then more work that I just havn't had the time. I've been trying to make the time to go down to Leading Edge Motorsports and get my kart dialed in but with Junior year in highschool coming up in about two weeks I'm not sure I'll have the time to do anything.

Secound last race day is on Sunday for us.Can't beleive that the season is almost over. :grumpy:

Yep I am getting my engines rebuilt for this season. I got a great new setup for my kart so I should be really fast.

Peace.

PS-I used to be Mclarens Main Man. That was my bros name.

I'm racing in the UK in the Junior TKM Intermediate class (100cc Direct drive air cooled and drivers must weigh above 62kg with race suit and helmet). They have little grip but it does show the best in driver skill unlike some classes.

I'am considering a swap to Rotax Max for senior racing so if what people say about them are true. It will be pretty cool when I'm having wheel to wheel racing at 95mph!

my brother bought 2 karts last year, he got back into the sport because 14 years ago he used to race with dad as the mechanic, so we HAD 2 100cc karts, one with a generic PRD100 motor and the other was a kt100 yamaha. the prd was on a crg heron chassis and the kt was on the barely used track magic.

the generic one is mine, and we went to open track at either stockton CA, or atwater Ca,. of the 2 atwater was an awesome smooth as hell track, with banked turns and all out speeds.

it wasnt till the 2 months ago that my bro got tired of the track magic because it was too twitchy and he figured out finally why it was twitchy (seat struts). so now he has a CRG, forgot which chassis but it has an 80cc shifter, and we ran it at a huge parking lot.

at first we were both confused on how to start the thing, so that is why im posting here to ask for advice.
we did eventually start it but it took us putting it on the edge of the truck and my bro spinning the tires with his hands, we finally RAN it and still a little confused on:

- how to start a shifter kart
- which gear is a good gear to start on
- down shifting and up shifting
- braking/downshifting/clutch and basically how to drive it while maintaining speed and running correctly.

- how to start a shifter kart
When I go to tracks I see most people compression start it. Hold the hand clutch in(it's basically only for starting and a neutral gear) and have somebody push you while you are aer giving it a little bit of gas. Once it starts, bump it into first gear, or have it in first with clutch held in and then take off.

First is a good gear to start in.

- down shifting and up shifting
All karts have a sequential 5/6 speed gear boxes. Down is upshifting while pushing up is downshifting. You do not need to put in the clutch for shifting Watch the videos on this page for reference.http://www.ekartingnews.com/media/main.html

Drive it like any fast car. In other words employ the same techniques you would yuse in driving very very fast haha. Keep the revs up, don't over rev by putting it in too low of a gear, and do not go flat out at first. Get to know the kart and the basic way to drive it before you flog that thing. By the way that triple kegger was goddamn incredible.

so are the gears set up like this:

N>1>2>3>4>5>6

OR

1>N>2>3>4>5>6

my bros says another person familiar with shifter karts told him to start on 2nd gear.
basically he said once you hear the engine burp let go of the clutch and press clutch again then put it in gear.

still have a lot to learn.

It seems that there is some more karters here now so I thought I would bring this thread back so that they can see it.This thread will never die!!!!! :sly:

I'm pretty sure neutral isn't a gear you can shift into, but rather activated by pulling on the hand clutch.

Nope. :)

To put it in neutral, you have have the kart in 1st, then pull the shifter a half shift, that should put it in neutral.

I race karts as well. I am making my way to F1 and I can't afford car racing, so I decided karts is where I need to start. I race in 4-cycle sprint karts(road course), I'll be doing the National Horstman Gold Cup Series this year. all I've done so far is 4 local races and I've already gotten my first win. first heat, I had pole and drove away to a half a track lead for the win(10 laps) and was quicker than anybody else by 1.5 seconds(1/4 mile track, 28 second laps time). and the seconds heat, I got had pole but got a bad start. ended up third by the first corner. passed for second on the 5th lap, passed for first on the 8th lap. it was amazing(10 laps). third heat, I drew 5th position(they draw for starting positions, not qualifying) passed into 4th at the start, and got stuck behind the slowest guy on track. when I went to pass him on the straight, he almost pushed me off the track and I never really was able to make another good run on him. but I got 2 first place finishes, and a fourth for the night. not so bad. I haven't gotten anything lower then a fourth place finish yet. but I'll be going for the national championship in '06 and I'm going to win the local championship in '06. and I'll probably step up into shifters in '07 with some shifter teams. I've been talking to some people about Star Mazda rides and Formula Atlantic/Champ Car rides as well. I am probably going to step up into cars straight from shifters. in a couple weeks(Jan 8th), I'll be driving a 2cycle shifter for my first time at an autoX so I am definatly looking foreward to that. does anyone have any tips for me?(Nick). I can not wait to be honest. I'll be beat up for a minimum of a week, but I can't wait. thats all for now.

rock.

We just had our second race of the year and it was a big one.We hosted our first ROK cup.We had drivers from B.C, Alberta and Sask.Over 25 racers showed up,(thats a lot for our track).A new track record was set at 00:38.353.The track layout was set at .9 of a mile with 18 turns. This time is 1.5 sec faster than the old record. No mjor incedents and every one had a great time.
