One of the most useful tools for fast typing and general use of a document.

Firstly, a question. I know that if you double click on a word with the cursor it highlights the whole word, is there a keyboard shortcut that does the same?

Secondly, I was thinking of making a list of keyboard shortcuts, add them in posts and I'll update the OP. I'll do simple ones and lesser known ones in the same.

Ctrl + E - Central Alignment
Ctrl + L - Left Alignment
Ctrl + R - Right Alignment
Ctrl + B - Bold text
Ctrl + U - Underline text
Ctrl + I - Italicise text
Ctrl + C - Copy text
Ctrl + V - Paste text
Ctrl + S = Save
Ctrl + O = Open
Ctrl + P = Print
Ctrl + N = New File
Ctrl + Z = Undo
Ctrl + Y = Redo
Alt + F4 = Close Window/Program
Windows Key + E = Windows Explorer
Windows Key + F = Search/Find
Windows Key + R = Run
Windows Key + Pause = System Properties
F1 = Active program's help file
Windows Key + F1 = Window's help file

Page Up: Next Worksheet
Page Down: Previous Worksheet
D: Fill down
R: Fill right

If your cursor is at the start of the word, ctrl+shift + right arrow highlights to the end of the word.

Ctrl + O = Open
Ctrl + P = Print
Ctrl + N = New File
Ctrl + Z = Undo
Ctrl + Y = Redo
Alt + F4 = Close Window/Program
Windows Key + E = Windows Explorer
Windows Key + F = Search/Find
Windows Key + R = Run
Windows Key + Pause = System Properties
F1 = Active program's help file
Windows Key + F1 = Window's help file

Windows + L locks the workstation in XP and later

A good one that I use in Word:
CTRL + delete = deletes the whole words rather than just characters.
F12 is used as Save as... I think too.

Hmm, the CTRL + delete, is that when the whole word is highlighted or just if the cursor is in the word?
 
CTRL+Del deletes the whole word to the right of the cursor, up to and including the following space. CTRL+Backspace does the same thing.
 
Windows key + M = Show desktop
CTRL + T = New tab in Firefox (Maybe others too).
