EDIT- Why do you guys in the US have signs that say left lane and right lane...?? Isnt that a bit obvious! We have like little pointing down arrow things.

It's which lane you needs to be when the road splits into different highways. Trust me, they are needed.

We have arrows too. I've never in my life seen "LEFT LANE" and "RIGHT LANE" unless it's more complex than usual... or it's Michigan where everybody's stupid :D

For whatever reason in Michigan we feel the need to dump every highway in the Detroit area into every other highway. I've never been to another state with as many horrible junctions as we do here...and I've driven in SoCal. When you are doing 100mph you need to know what lane to get in so you can get in front of the other guy doing 100 to merge into the next freeway. Driving here is fun.

It looks like the love child between a Civic and a Lexus IS350 to be honest, but it's really one of the better looking Kia's to make an appearance I think.

I definitely see both of those a bit in there. There are a bunch of other companies design cues in there also. It really is not too bad looking of a little car. Nice job Kia! 👍
 
I see, naturally, Honda Civic headlamps. Other than that, I see some Renault-style crisp front-end styling. Robin was entirely right about the Audi A6's taillights.

Also, I see beauty.

Available in LX, SX or EX trim, the Forte has a leg up on its predecessor in both the style and features departments. Both the LX and EX versions get a 2.0-liter DOHC fourbanger good for 156 HP and 144 lb-ft of torque featuring CVVT. The sporty SX gets a 2.4-liter inline-four delivering 173 HP, which they claim is more powerful than the most powerful versions of the Toyota Corolla and 2010 Mazda3. Ahem, 2010 Mazdaspeed3. Boasting aside, it's a lot of power for a small Kia. Mated to a six-speed manual transmission, the Kia Spectra has some sleeper potential.

The list of options is fairly high for a small car, including standard Bluetooth and an audio input jack and USB port for iPod connectivity. Move up to the EX or SX packages and a six-speed system with steering wheel controls is also available.

Pretty nice for the price, looking forward to seeing one in person. After the fail that is the new Mazda3, God only know what is going to happen in this segment.

See, this is why we got a stupid big huge grille on the recently facelifted Civic. Honda saw this Forte and went AW HELL and had to go back to the drawing board. Kia ruined Honda's plans!
 
I was going to say WRX but now I see the Civicness, at least in the front.
 
Actually, I'd say it looks more like a rounded out previous-gen TSX, which truth be told, isn't a bad thing.
 
Definitely very Civic-y. Though I actually prefer it to the current US-market Civic. Its... tidy. As mentioned, there are no styling gimmicks, which I quite like.
 
There's a guy around here with another Civic Si sedan in Fiji Blue Pearl. If I ever see the front of this thing, that's exactly what I'm going to be thinking it is...
 
Who cares what it resembles, its a good looking car from Korea that will stop the Japanese. I like it.

The Kia dealer in Laurel Maryland had one of these (parked next to a nerw Soul no less). They look very nice in person.
 
The Soul is already out? Hmmm, I'm very interested in driving one of those. Really, both of them. Not that I'm really in the market for a new car anyway...
 
Not officially, no. I sent off for a brochure, and they've sent me a pre-release one :/

It's supposed to be out, and I quote, 'Spring 2009'.
 
Might be out earlier in the US of A. Wonder if we'll get the Forte, or whether the C'eed's presence will prevent that.
 
Well it replaced the Spectra, which we never got anyway. And seeing how well medium sized saloons sell over here (the Focus and Megane spring to mind), I don't think it'll happen.
 
Ah c'mon...old people would buy it (they're the ones who buy Focus and Megane saloons, after all). Otherwise we wouldn't have the Magentis. And we've had the Mentor in the past. And the Shuma II. And the Cerato. All of which were either C'eed sized or larger (well, I say C'eed sized but the C'eed is typical of modern family cars in that it's grown compared to it's predecessor, so may well be as large as a "larger" car).
 
There was an auto show in Baltimore at the time, so they might have been on loan or something. Then again, this Kia dealer also had multiple Porsches, Mercedes and Beamers being sold alongside Rios.
 
I like the way it looks on the outside, but the wheels look really plain, and a little bit lost in those arches. If you're going to flare the arches like that then at least put something worth looking at underneath them!
