Well, according to them...

"It's not coming soon, it's coming now." That's the official description of the Kia GT4 Stinger concept, which has every appearance of being a Kia version of the Genesis coupe.

Obviously, check out all the other stuff over at Jalopnik.

I'm pretty impressed with this car. If they use the Kia track record of making it a cheaper Hyundai, this should be a great competitor to the lower cost coupes in the segment right now. And with all of that, a 300+ BHP turbo I4? This things a Mustang ST competitor for sure.

Certainly among the better concepts at Detroit. The front lights leave a bit to be desired but the rest is pretty much spot-on - nice proportions, clean surfacing, not too many superfluous details. More than a hint of a few other concepts in it, but nothing nasty.

It's only the performance that bothers me about it, since with 300-odd hp it'll push up the price somewhat, at least here in the UK. We'd probably be looking at £30k here. I'd happily take a third less horsepower for a third less money.

I'd be willing to bet they just use carry-over pieces from their other turbo cars. It would be interesting to see it offered with the 1.6L Turbo from the Veloster, but I'm guessing it would be a safer bet to see the unit from the Optima (et. all) shoved in there with a little less than 300 BHP. I can't imagine Hyundai wanting the GT4 to step ahead of the Genesis... Unless they're getting rid of the four cylinder option and adding something above the V6...

A Kia take on the Veloster would be right up my street. Not least because I suspect it'd look better.

I just wish someone would make a cheap, fun, good-looking coupe again. More at the old Ford Puma/Toyota Paseo/Vauxhall Tigra end of the market than the 370Z/Genesis/TT etc end. I.e. something I have a realistic chance of affording and being able to run brand new! Kia could base it on the Rio and bung the 1.6 or 1.6 Turbo from the Veloster in there.

With a different front fascia I could see it as a modern iteration of a front-engined Porsche. 👍

The shape hits the small sporty thing accurately. However, the whole concept feels dated, IMO. The thread title hit it right on the money.

I kinda like it but there's very little KIA dna in there, it looks like it could be a concept car from any manufacturer.

I'm getting an odd Miura concept vibe from it, it actually does look very Italian mixed in with some US muscle.

If this thing were a direct competitor to the FR-S and BRZ...I'm not sure I'd buy it over an FR-S but I'd take a look for sure. Especially if it were the same size and had a similarly great driving experience.

Why have the name GT4 in it? I mean, Stinger is nice enough, GT4 makes it seem like a homologated GT4 car but if it is set to compete with the BRZ/GT-86/FRS then it couldn't be GT4 spec.

Change the front end, put in an economical but yet powerful engine - if that is even possible - and release this car.
