Kids Names: Why do they do it?

Best name I ever heard was Christopher Christopherson, but I cant remember from where.

There was a kid in one of my gym classes a few years back named Langston (sp?) like the writer. I just named him Hobo, and still say that if ever I see him.
 
I once worked for a Japanese company and the Japanese took English first names so that the English emloyees would be able to pronounce them. One guy the 2nd in command didn't want to take the suggested 'Nigel' option and wanted people to use a shorthand of his real name 'Nob'. He was dissuaded.

When I was at school I knew a guy called Cliff Butcher, who went on to medical school. I don't know if he made it as a doctor, or whether he kept his surname, but I hope it was one or the other.
