hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone else has knee problems after long sessions of racing with the DFP? I'm a rather large person, tall as well, and i find that whenever i race for more then 30 mins, my knees (the insides) start to hurt, as i constantly have to 'force' or 'work' to keep my legs lined up with the very tiny and close together pedals (brake and gas).

Anyone else got that problem?

The only solution i can come up with at the moment is to find a way to open the pedals stand and rebuilt a set of pedals from those parts, on a larger frame and base, so that i won't have to bring my feet together as much.

Any thoughts?

Actually that happens to me sometimes aswell, mainly just on my right (throttle) leg but I have a table leg that I lean my lag against when it starts to hurt. Or slide back and stretch my legs out abit.

I never do because I only use one foot for both pedals. I used to do left-foot braking, but I try to avoid it now.

Try using one foot only. That should help.

I get this too. What position are you sitting in? I sit in a more upright (bus driver) position. I'm sure that it has a lot to do with that, I don't think these problems would persist if I had a decent cockpit, like a low elongated race frame. The unnatural driving position is what's doing it I think.

My left knee hurts after a long while. But thats because I have a pre existing knee problem from 2 years ago when I had everything in my knee replaced due to a major injury. Right knee feels great though

Ouch. Severe accident or what?

Fluke accident at work. An airhose on the floor can do a lot of damage when stepped on while getting down from a 4 foot ledge. The story goes like this, the cleaning guy was cleaning a CNC machining center off. He was doing the spindle cover and he accidentally droped a paper towel in between the cover and the spindle. Since it couldnt be left in there or it could start a fire I had to remove the cover and get it out. Well after I finished doing that I was stepping out of the machine and as my left foot stepped on the air hose my ankle completely twisted, buckled and my knee had my 165 lb body weight twising on the knee as well. Everything got mangled bad, both lateral ligaments, ACL, interior crushia ligament were badly torn, and my minisucs was torn up some but not bad. Suprizing enough my ankle wasn't hurt one bit. The knee on the other hand was Ouch mother effer sonna female dog and every other cuss word to boot!
I'm almost completely healed for the most part, I still don't have full range of movement in that leg. I can't bend it all the way back to where I can touch my heel to my bottom. I can walk and run just fine. My knee just gets a little sore from time to time when its used to much or I sit in an adkward position for a while. I can just walk the soreness off from sitting in my rig to long after a few minutes. Then hop back in the rig for more fun :)

I don't get knee problems...then again, I'm 19 and my car is manual, so I'm used to using 2 feet.

I get a little back pain from my posture when I play though...I need a better chair.

I used to left foot brake, but stopped doing so, didn't want the habit to carry over to real life just driving a domestic car.

I use my right foot to do all the work. My heel is centered, if not slightly to the right (gas pedal). I use the side of my foot to work the accelerator. I just tilt my foot to the side and it easily presses it down all the way without having to extend my foot downward. Using this method I rarely get sore ankles or knees.

I also think taking breaks to stretch helps a lot. Doing anything for few hours straight always has some sort of ill effect.

PrecisionD :)

Same here, I'm 6'2", this never happens to my throttle leg since i rest that against a table leg but OMG my brake leg... I could hardly walk down the stairs after playing gt4 for 2 days :P
I think i've found a better driving position now... so it happens less frequently.

Aye I have had a problem with my ankle this afternoon. I was having a bit of trouble driving and then got home to play some GT4 and only completed one race before the pain my ankle stopped me. I think it was probably because I played GT4 from 10 until 1 last night (not solidly, I got up and streched and walked about fro about 15 mins half way through) so I think that might be my problem. I don't have very much room in my bedroom so I have to play bus driver style as previously mentioned. I'm sure a few days rest from GT4 and some good, long walks will solve my problem.

I had ACL and Miniscus surgery on my knee 2 weeks ago today and use my wheel and pedals as good exercise. I can race for hours and seems to really help me bend my knee without paying attention to the pain.. Kinna a fun way to rehab If you will...

My knees don't hurt when I play, and I have REALLY screwed up knees, and I mean really. I can feel all the cartlige(sp?)

I'm 6'4" and ~220lbs. I used to have that problem with my knees and my ankles would kill too . I builty myself a cockpit that suits my size and puts me in a more racing position, with the pedals angled (that's the trick that fixed it, the pedals angled) and now it's perfect.

You haven't seen pain until you've used my setup, lol. I just have the pedals on the floor, and the wheel is sitting on a 1-1/2" tall table, and my leg has to fit through that, while I sit on a pillow on the floor. Most. Uncomfortable. Cockpit. Ever.

I used to have that problem with my old Momo because I tried to use it on a TV table with my feet poked through between the narrow legs.

With the DFP I have it set on a stand with a center post so I can let my knees apart in a natural driving position. This is comfortable even if I left-foot brake. However, as others have said, I've quit that and use my right foot for both, just like I drive IRL. Since I got my wheel securely mounted in a comfortable spot, I have no fatigue issues at all.

Surprising that so many people right-foot brake with the DFP! I don't have a DFP, due to a combination of lack of money and lack of space (yea you guessed it I'm a student). But when I got GT4 I made a point of changing the way I hold the DS2 so I can left-foot brake. It's just faster in some situations, such as slaloms.

On the other hand, if I got a DFP one of the first things I would be thinking about would be to left-foot brake. It's just so easy with pedals, compared to buttons on a gamepad.

I don't have any knee problem, I brake with my left foot even when I live in europe and I'll have to brake with my right foot when I get a car next year...

But I have really bad problems when I'm going at +350kmh and my DFP starts bouncing like hell and I can't handle it... I try to handle it strong but it continues shaking... it is really annoying when I'm running through Le Sarthe II without chicanes and I'm having serious problems to not to crash... this happens to anyone or only to me? :ill:

The pedals aren't really designed for both feet to be used at the same time for more than a second or two (if turbo lag really bothers you that is).

It's not hard to move your right foot from the gas to the brake.

Helps you remember that your foot is actually there..

..or something.

Same, my back starts to act up.

But lately after playing with the DFP on long long races, my groin area starts to hurt.
