Know What I Hate?

Doug this is also something I really hate. It's not just construction either. Going from I-270 north to I-70, the farthest right lane goes east and has very little traffic, and the lane next to it goes west and has horrible traffic. These 2 lanes are separated by the highway by a mere double white line and some signs stating not to cross it. But still, people go in the lane on the other side of the white lines and uttery stop because they were too stupid to realize where the hell they are going. Not only is that really dangerous, it's illegal, and causes accidents. Then in the lane that goes east, people do the same thing. What's worse is that people go from the other side of the white line across the lane that goes west and pull strait out into the lane that goes east. Sitting in that west lane, I've seen many near accidents. My mom saw a car cut a van off and sent it flying off the road. It's horrible.

I also really really hate on a road that's clearly stated that the lane ends, and people use that lane anyway. There's been many times where I've been cut off, honked at, and everything, and damnit I'm in the lane that doesn't end. My bro makes it his goal to screw with these people. If someone starts to fly past my bro, he's downshifting and racing them. He makes them work for it, and a lot of times they can't do it and have to slow down, then the people behind us won't let them in either. Sure, it can cause some accidents(but it hasn't so far), but people really have to learn, and if that's by scaring them to death, then so be it.

What I also hate is how when a lane opens up into two lanes, some people will straddle the line.

I hate it when there's been signage of the impending road widening every 300yds for like 2 miles, and so when the road widens, you're already in the lower gear, ready to sprint out and pass the slower traffic, and some moron takes like 15 seconds to decide and ready himself to go, andthen just pulls straight out in front of you. Grr. If I'm driving something truly quick, the speed differential can be terrifying.

I also hate when you go to pull onto a 70mph traffic highway and the turd in front of you comes to a stop like the yeild sign is actually a stop sign. Then I have to floor it in the 323 to get out there and pass the guy. Also I hate the people that ride in the lane that joins the highway. He I come down a cloverleaf at 40mph and then as I am about to get over there's a line of cars right there. They need to create lanes that start at the entrance ramp, that way people going onto the highway don't have to deal with these people and can saftly gain speed and then get over if they want to, but they don't need to. That would help.

I hate that too. And, I hate it when other road users let them in!

It's always Vectras in this country.

ha  at Giles - These Vectra drivers eh !!!! ???

What I hate about drivin on m-ways is this

You are driving lets say 70 mph in the slow lane on the m-way cos its quiet. You come up to a couple of trucks and one is passing the other BUT a car is behind the truck overtaking the other truck in the middle lane. So you stay at 70 but just move into the outside lane to pass the car and the truck in the middle lane, they are all travelling lets say 60(55 for the truck on the inside lane). THEN when the overtaking truck has overtaken and pulls infront of the slower truck you have overtaken the car as well, so you are ready to pull back infront of them but the car decides to speed up so you cant pull in
Why didnt they just overtake the truck instead of blocking you from pulling in
that makes me mad !

Yup, exactly.

You know what's really bad? The people who feel like they're being good citizens by going 45 mph on a 65 mph freeway... don't they realize that it's probably more dangerous to be going that slow than to be going 70 or so?? On a highway today, the cars were travelling around 60 mph, and a car pulled in front of us at around 30 mph... :irked: Seriously, some people are just begging to be rear-ended.

People - namely incompetent people who have never driven on American highways - get afraid of merging onto the highways and stop at the end of the lane (just when you're supposed to speed up). This is extremely dangerous for everybody involved - merging is already very dangerous, and idiots make it harder.

Happened to me today too - the other lane was open and I barely hopped in it in time. In a normal circumstance, I would've honked my horn, but the guy had an Eagle Summit MPV (which ruled when it came out and still does) so I spared him.

The funny thing about road signs is that they seem to appear to say different things to different people. For example, someone in a sedan will see this...

...but someone who drives an SUV that cost them $40,000 seems to see it as this:

 @ Blaze Kinser. This does seem to be the truth. Most SUVs just keep going until they barely can miss the construction vehicles and then swerve in front of you, forcing you to slam on the brake and almost get nailed by the person behind you. What prevents this? Cones, police officers, those orange barrel things, etc.

Eric - the picture's funny as hell. I have seen people (especially semi-truck drivers on the side of another semi-truck) do that in the past and it cracks me up. When the situation arises again, I'll be sure to give it a shot.

I saw semis doing that, they were closely followed by a Pontiac Firebird (80's body style), and a motorcycle came up and passed on the right. Then the guy in the Firebird tries it, as he pull up beside the semi, the semi runs into the ditch, causing the Firebird to run way off the road... it was the funniest thing I've ever seen in my entire life
