Koenigsegg CCR sets new top speed record

The Ford GT hit an unofficial 212, but from what i've read the 212 was a very shakey 212. They made the official speed 205 because that is what they felt the car could do safely i.e. without the car acting all squirley. But people ALSO say they made it 205 just to down-play how fast it goes to make sure it doesn't "out do" the GT-40.

But, if the Dauer hit 250 w/ 700+ hp.....And the Sledghammer hit 250+ 890+ hp...Why doesn't koen step it up a notch here!!!!

Hell if you look at the Dauer it's body very highly resembles the Ultima GTR's just longer. So why doesn't someone get on the ball and crank out some serious HP out of that utlima's Chevy block and get into the 260+ street car catagory.

And asside from that. Same for the Mosler. If that car can do 200+ with less than 500HP, than imagine what it can do with an additional 300
 
Oh well, I like the koen and everything, but i'm sorry it'll never be a moniker like the F1. I say right now it's about on par popularity wise in the top speed race as the XJ220 was when it was the king. But time will tell. (personally would still take a F1 over a Koen) I mean it's freakin GOLD come on now.
 
Power required to reach any given speed for any given car = ((mass x 0.0135) + (Coefficient of drag x frontal area x 0.00256 x speed x speed)) x speed/375

Where mass is in lbs, frontal area is in square feet and speed is in mph.

As you can see, power required to reach a particular speed increases by the cube of speed - to reach twice the speed you need 8 times the power.


Edit: I've just done the maths... To reach 241mph, the CCR requires a mere 720hp at the crank - it actually develops 806hp. To reach 250mph it should need close to its maximum - 801hp. This, of course, supposes that at these speeds it is in the requisite part of the rev range to develop maximum power, atmospheric conditions notwithstanding. It all boils down to gearing.

So yes. The Koenigsegg CCR ought to be capable of 250mph+
 
I'm, for one, glad that Koenigsegg took a tuned Mustang engine and a lot of time in the wind tunnel and turned it into the car that knocked the Murray F1 (sorry, but that car had nothing to do with the man who ruled Can Am with an iron kiwi fist) off its undeserved pedestal.

The Murray F1 was Gordon Murray's paen to his own self-indulgence. He traded in on the storied McLaren name without celebrating its heritage (which, by the way, was steeped in thoughtful and robust engineering, not devil-may-care spending). He created a soulless germanic wedge and then spent the time after its debut sniping at the established supercars as "inferior"...

...Never mind that the Ferrari F50 (two years older than the F1 and built only to homologate the 333SP's engine for IMSA WSC competition) could blast through the slalom a full 6mph faster and had a .17g advantage on the skidpad, or that the substantially heavier Jaguar XJ220 (3241lbs to the F1's 2513lbs) slowed from 60mph to 0 in 5 fewer feet.

In fact, beyond its acceleration, price, and top speed, there was nothing at all remarkable about the Murray F1. Now it has been fairly beaten by superior engineering at a lower cost. On top of that, the 1.3g's a CCR generates on the skidpad and the 99 FEET(!) it takes the CCR to slow from 60 to 0 is a full .44g's more and a full 28 feet fewer than the Murray F1.

Face it Murray fans, the ultimate(sic) is no longer the ultimate. Every one of the modern super cars and quite a few of the F1's predecessors (none of which have the obscene price tag of the Murray) have out done the F1 in cornering, and many of them out accelerate it.

Chew on this. The Mosler MT900S Photon, which amounts to a $205,000 carbon fiber mid engined Z06 Corvette, pulls 0-60 in 3.1seconds (Murray F1 - 3.2seconds), runs the quarter in 11.02seconds at 126.88mph (Murray F1 - 11.1seconds at 135mph), skidpad of 1.02g's (Murray F1 - .86g's), and slalom of 74.7mph (Murray F1 - 64.5mph).

I'm sorry, but a production Corvette kit car with a Hewland transaxle (oddly enough, derived from the classic Hewland gearboxes that Bruce McLaren used behind the Chevy big blocks IN HIS CARS) slaps the McLaren silly. It does this with *gasp* thoughtful and robust engineering.

Don't forget to mention back in 1988 I think it was John Lingenfelter went 254mph unofficially in the Callaway Sledgehammer Corvette.

I thought that the Sledgehammer was never classed as a production car anyway, so even if official it does not effect the production car record

And your getting things mixed up.
The F1 was thought of as the fastest car ever.
Not the best in salom, 0-60, 1/4 mile times.
Top Speed.
Can the Kit Car do 240Mph? No? Well, what'd you know.
And I still believe the F1 to be faster than the Koenigsegg, unofficial or not.
