Heres the lyrics to thoughtless.

Thoughtless

Thumbing through the pages of my fantasies
Pushing all the mercy down, down, down
I wanna see you try to take a swing at me
Come on, gonna put you on the ground, ground, ground

Why are you trying to make fun of me?
You think it's funny?
What the **** you think it's doing to me?
You take your turn lashing out at me
I want you crying with your dirty ass in front of me

All of my hate cannot be found
I will not be drowned by your thoughtless scheming
So you can try to tear me down
Beat me to the ground
I will see you screaming

Thumbing through the pages of my fantasies
I'm above you, smiling at you, drown, drown, drown
I wanna kill and rape you the way you raped me
And I'll pull the trigger
And you're down, down, down

Why are you trying to make fun of me?
You think it's funny?
What the **** you think it's doing to me?
You take your turn lashing out at me
I want you crying with your dirty ass in front of me

All of my hate cannot be found
I will not be drowned by your thoughtless scheming
So you can try to tear me down
Beat me to the ground
I will see you screaming

All my friends are gone, they died (gonna take you down)
They all screamed, and cried (gonna take you down)

I'm never (?) back against the wall
Gonna take you down

All of my hate cannot be found
I will not be drowned by your thoughtless scheming
So you can try to tear me down
Beat me to the ground
I will see you screaming
All of my hate cannot be found
I will not be drowned by your thoughtless scheming
So you can try to tear me down
Beat me to the ground
I will see you screaming

Now, to me this song is about a person who has been bullied throughout his life and is about to snap. He is saying that he is sick of being pushed around and is ready to retaliate. This is kind of a message to bullies to stop what they are doing, to look at what they are creating. Have you seen the vid for this video? It is a very good message and kinda creepy in how it shows you the effects of bullying and teasing.
A lot of KoRn songs have very good meaning behind them, Jon Davis sings about his pain and suffering as a child and I can really empathise with him. I find great comfort in his music as it shows me that there are others who have suffered the same as me. KoRn I will proudly say is one of the great inspirations in my life, when i was younger and now, and I can hope they continue to make great music to help others deal with there situations.
You know sometimes its not always what the music sounds like, but whats being said.

Must tell Bird about this, they're her fave band...... She knows an awful lot about those guys.

I don't think that the music itself is evil, the whole band is just a bit, screwed up?

As i understand it Jonathan (the singer and main songwriter) had a fairly disturbed childhood and most of his writing has been influenced by those experiances.

I'll ask Bird to post on it.

btw ... We went to their gig in London recently, a bit on the heavy side for me these days, Bird seemed to like it though.

OK i asked Bird to come online and comment on Korn but she's a bit busy with housework, washing up and ironing. :P

I can't really remember exactly what she said about the idea of Korn being "evil" but the gist of our conversation was that considering the childhood and teen years that Jonathon had it would be highly unlikely that he would write about happy stuff. As i understand it Korn are bunch of fairly troubled individuals and their music is as much a comment on their lives as anything else. Having said that they would appear to be predominantly "family men" if reports of the "family values" tour is anything to go by.

Sorry i can't supply much more, but if you're intrested PM me and i'll see if i can't find some web links or something.

I agree with Rumple. A lot of Korn's messages are good. "Thoughtless" has thought provoking lyrics. The video for this song shows the point of that song quite well. It makes me think about what happened at Columbine (sp?), and other school shootings and how the people commiting the crimes felt. That song in particular makes me wanna give those bullies a piece of my fist. But its supposed to do that I guess, and by doing that, people that listen to Korn and are bullies might realize their wrong doings and what the consequences might be. Maybe I'm thinking about their song's lyrics too much, but never-the-less, they still send a good message. The lead singer is kind of a geek but that probably contributes to their good lyrics. The down side is if some one listens to these lyrics, and gets bullied a lot would think about doing some of these things, but they would probably be smart enough to think about what they are doing before they do it. That's about it I guess, atleast until someone else says something worth reading. :P

korn are an excellent band, and yes the majority of their lyrics are quite dark, but as slip posted earlier, jonathon had an extremely difficult childhood, including being abused by a family member, so this is probably why he writes like he does, but at least he is doing something positive and creative with it instead of bottling up all those negative emotions and turning into some nut. As a result korn have some remarkable and very original sounding music that is full of emotion and that some people can relate to in a positive way with out having a narrow minded view that they are evil lyrics!

I always seem to have trouble putting my thoughts into words. If I could have restated what I typed earlier, it probably would have looked something like your post.

glad you agree.
I am a huge korn fan, and get wound up when people make assumptions about things when they don't know the facts first.
Korn are great and are great live too.
Nice to meet a fellow fan :D
