I've played this game for awhile and will forever love it but one thing I can't find is how to switch from mph to km/h. Am I truely blind as a bat or is it my version of the game? I know, very dumb, newbie question but hey, I need to know. And yes, I do feel very dumb about asking this question.

Welcome to GTPlanet, Kobayashi!

Don't hesitate to ask anything -- get this, I'm not sure how to switch from MPH to KPH either. I haven't played GT3 for a while, but I think you can change it somewhere in the Options Menu located at the very main menu.

However, I'm sure someone will come along and tell you exactly how to switch it.

i think u can't change it! becaue the Japanese version of
GT3 is km/h and the american verison or englush verison is in mph..i think u can't do naything about it..

You can't.

However, if you are in possession of an Xport/Sharkport I can supply you with a, blank sadly, saved game for your region using the other measurements - I guess you are Canadian wanting to switch mph to km/h?

If you don't have an Xport/Sharkport, I don't think there's any possible way to do it. And you SHOULD have an Xport/Sharkport - it connects a memory card in Slot 1 to your PC through a USB, so allowing you to backup saved games to the Hard Drive and never needing another Memory Card.

Xport for PAL/Europe (and Australia. And S. Africa) users.
Sharkport for NTSC (USA/Japan) users.

I'm guessing you have the NTSC version. I too have that, but I have not been able to find anywhere to switch from mph to km/h. I think PD left this out since it is just for North America, and figured no one in Canada owned a PS2  But honestly, I think they just left it out, and you can't switch, but hopefully someone will prove me wrong.

With the additional note that my zone - PAL/Europe - has the game in km/h, but I play using my PAL disc quite happily in mph. But it is a fairly arcane method to do it, and can only be done on the PC...

Yeah I know what you're talking about, you have to import it in with a SharkPort, etc... but it's kind of a hassle. I really wish they would have allowed the option of changing the units of measure, such an important thing they ignored. I mean we here in Canada don't use mph, so we shouldn't be forced to use it. Oh well.

Here in the UK we DO use mph, but GT3 makes us use the European standard km/h.

C'est la vie, as they say. Although not in my case. Obv. :D

you can't switch from mph to km/h...but whats wrong with mph? well I live in Cananda and I think mph is ok...but then the NTSC version...while your drivin...it seems like you're going much slower than the speedometer actually says...like on the Test Course going at 100mph...looks more like its 100km/h...but then I onno...maybe its just me...

There's nothing fundamentally wrong with mph, I'd just like to use km/h as that's what we use in Canada and in real life everyday driving.

However I agree with you, the sensation of speed isn't accurate in my opinion, when you're going like 150 or even 200 mph on Test Course, although it is a huge track, it just doesn't seem like you're going that fast.

Yes you can - by the method I hinted at. But it can't be done within a game save.

Anyone who wants can download a blank, zone converted game save from my site's GT3/Xport section: http://jump.to/fmax

(edit - damn slippy fingers)

Heheheheheh. I never look at the speedometer anyway, just the tach. I never have a clue how fast I'm actually going; I just judge how well I'm doing by whether I have to upshift earlier or later than last lap. The only place I look at land speed is the Test Course.

The reason the game doesn't seem that fast - compared to real life - is the lack of direct sensation and peripheral vision.

Accelerating off the mark in a 1.3i Ford Fiesta (0-60mph/100km/h in 12.0s) seems a lot quicker than even an Integra in the game. This is purely because you're focussing only a screen in front of you with no information coming in from the edge of vision, and there's no corresponding sensation of movement caused by fluid motion in the semi-circular canals of the inner ear.

Nowt to do with km/h and mph...

Now that I think of it, you're absolutely correct, that would affect the sensation of speed.

That AND wide roads. You'll probably find that a P001 or F094/S on Tokyo - a mere 4-lane road - or Deep Forest (a single carriageway) feels a lot faster and a great deal more scary than on Test Course, which is 5 miles wide AND 10 miles round... :D

Indeed, the first time I took a P001 on Deep Forest I nearly **** myself... :D

That's not the half of it. I had to verify a replay at GT3Times the other day of a P001 on Deep Forest 2.

49.1 seconds... Clean, legal and scary...

you know on Deep Forest...I try to stay in one lane..when u drive using the bumper cam view...the lane looks small but when you watch the replay the lane is much bigger than what it looked like in the actual run...

Well that's disappointing to hear. Hopefully the next installment will at least let you choose. I'd love to see it released in North America in just kp/h and see how the masses (USA) react. Obviously it won't happen because of the difference in population but it's fun to imagine.

Edit: Hmm, no pics in sigs I see.

Here's something that could help you .

MPH to KPH : Multiply by 1.6090

For some reason I forgot the calculations for KPH to MPH . Hope this helps anyway .

Wow thats great, I think i've found the basis for my multiplayer GT3 save. Cheers mate.

If you can convert Gamesaves, does that mean you can convert NTSC version replays as well?

Hmm. Tricky.. I'll have to rack my brains for it...

Maybe... divide by 1.609?

Rough method is 8/5 - (mph x 8)/5 = km/h or (km/h x 5)/8 = mph.
This way 200mph = 320km/h

Accurate method is mph x 1.609 = km/h or km/h / 1.609 = mph
This way 200mph = 322mph (321.8)

Race_Idiot - sorry. In my sarcasm I forgot your post.

As far as I know there is no known method for converting game replays between versions. I believe jbschumacher was working on a way, but frankly I'd rather eat my own cheeks than use anything he came up with. IF he could manage it.

Want to meet up for a 2-player sometime? I work at Chelsea & Westminster hospital... :D

So how did ya convert the actual gamesave?
The best I can do is sod about in MK's, although that let me drive all the fancy diablo's and 911 GT3's in GTC 2001 Tokyo. It doesn't let you do much else?

As for the 2 player, I have an I.Link hub only used once :( but I know a mate who might be willing to lend an internet cafe on a sunday. :D

Yeah - sadly even with a converted save you can't drive the hidden 996 911 GT3, Nomad Diablo, Stratos or Alitalia Stratos. Or the Fxxx/x F1 cars...

You need to use a Hex editor to convert the game save. There are 4 lines of code which in the NTSC gamesave begin "BASCUS-" then 5 numbers, but "BESCES-" then 5 different numbers in PAL. Change one to t'other and that's it.
