Lack of quality drivers in the online community

Hosting, with assists off, damage on, and penalties on helps, but not always. If someone wants to grief you, they will. Racing with people solely from your friends list helps, but not always. As in real life, just because they're your friend doesn't mean they're not a douche. It's like with the lottery, parking spots, or STDs. Sometimes you just get lucky.

Agreed. And why can't people drive back on the shoulder when others are racing on both lanes?

It's common sense, which some people obviously don't have. Unless, they're just being morons...

Usually, online is a hit or miss for me.

This is irrelevant. Some of the best drivers/racers I've encountered in rFactor and other sims are under 16 years old.
That doesn't make it irrelevant at all. It makes it a non-factor in some cases, like what you're describing. But somebody who races well, as a general rule, won't be too happy finding himself in a room full of kids. I have no doubt that there are some kids who are great at driving games, and respect other drivers on the track. But good driving takes a little maturity, and not all kids have that.

Get in a room full of kids, and you're much more likely to experience a festival of dive-bombing.

My only problem with online is finding servers where people are willing to race slower cars, I don't want to fill my garage with 700hp monsters.

I only really join the odd drift server or set up a lobby with my mate so we can just mess about together.

I also did my first rage quit the otherday as it happens, after continually being knocked off I just had to leave before I broke something.

I wish there was a way for PD to create wheel only and controller only rooms and that there was a way for the PS3 the detect which method you are playing with.

Has nothing to do with it. I have guys in my racing series that are using a controller and they do just fine.

Basically the same as what I said about age being irrelevant. Bottom line is that finding servers with good drivers and developing friendships with groups of good drivers is the way to weed out bad drivers and improve the online experience, not blocking age groups or input methods.

Tips

-Never go into races without hp and weight restrictions

-Be wary of races with aids on, especially SRF. I don't like to stereotype, but it seems as though the less dedicated drivers love to use traction control and things like that

-Look out for low hp races. Again, a lot of the non serious drivers seem to hate less than 500 hp.

-Theme races - Titles like "Super GT" and "Group C", etc seem to attract more dedicated drivers. At the very least a person who doesn't know what those are and enters his tuned Enzo into the race will probablt just get kicked by the host.

-Get together with GTP drivers. Use the online forum and chat room.

I hope that helps. For me, the majority of online racing has been great.

+1

People who go online for a laugh and don't take it seriously rarely go into rooms with a lot of restrictions. I've seen this when I've created a room, people come in, go straight to race settings, see they can't use any aids then leave. It sounds like the OP just needs to pick and choose the races more carefully.

I totally agree. So many people have no respect for their opponent and just want the money so they go to sad lengths to win. Either they want the money or they want to piss you off. Thats why when I race I make sure i'm the host and my friends are their only. Or GTP players like someone said on an earlier post.

Although if PD would make lobby restrictions like no damaging opponents or your disqualified, that would be pretty legit to. And then they can raise the winnings because it's not as easy :)

Good God, nobody said anything about blocking age groups.

But yeah, finding guys who race well, making friends with them, and creating your own groups with these guys will go a long way to improve the online experience.

Even in a lousy room, there's probably one other guy who drives well. When you find somebody you can drive next to in a corner, make friends with him. You'll have a bunch of people you can race with in no time. 👍

had this situation once or twice, but also had some good close battles in open lobbies, its just the pick of the draw

Don't be afraid of lobbies with no restrictions, it's easy enough to scare noobs off. If one turns up and wants to race their X2010, drive yours (if you have one) and ask everyone else to do the same. When they're at the back on their own they'll get bored and leave. The good drivers can then still have a close race!

Also try and find a good host. If anyone decides to play dodgems just ask them to kick them.

Good suggestions. I would also add

- avoid rooms with the word "clean" in them. (Ex: "clean racing" or "keep it clean") It's human nature to do the very thing we know we shouldn't do. You might as well put "ram me." in the title.

My title says: GTP cln racing pls.

Too polite eh?

Maybe if more agreed to register, and thus agree to race within the rules?

Just because they ram doesn't mean they have a controller. I have a controller(and race mainly people with controllers) we race fairly without ramming.

I've been rammed by people using wheels! You know they have them because you can here the motors over their headsets.

Yes! adding GTP to the title helps a lot, and you get to meet other GTPers.

The 3 times(lol), I played online were actually good experiences. Of course there were restriction out the yang, but everyone raced clean and it was a lot of fun.

I came across these guys tonight and I was pleased to see how clean and fast they were.

I entered a room that said the name of its online clan. Maybe if you enter those kind of rooms where online clans meet to have some races you'll end up having a good clean competition.

Be careful there, not everyone who uses traction control is a race wrecker. I, for one, use it, simply because I don't yet have the precision to control a loose FR vehicle without it. Although I'm sure I could easily blame it on the impossibility of being precise with a dualshock. Either way, I'd love to not be dependent on it, and I'm definitely not a punter who won't try to run without it.

I'll name and shame one. His name was bcarswell and I found him in a free run lobby on the TGTT. I'm sure he has many cars, but two of his main vehicles are a red R8 and an orange Corvette of some sort (possibly RM but I'm not sure) with color-shift purple wheels. Anyway, the whole lobby was pure chaos with pretty much every cone knocked down by the time I got there, people running drag races on the wider section in both directions, people driving rather wildly, and this guy (bcarswell) running around playing bumper cars. For reasons I don't understand, he singled me out and kept chasing me around, and since I was using the lobby as a place to break in some of my less-used (and slower) cars I couldn't really get away from him. Extremely annoying.

Are you even allowed to post people's PSNs? I know I saw someone else get away with it.

Bring back the penalty system as they had done with GT5P it wasn't perfect but it improved driving standards. I stopped going online with f2010 for this reason.

I haven't played much online due to the signature edition comp. So I will be getting the wheel out and getting back to a-spec at lvl27 so I will be rusty for a while but when I am I will be lookin to go online.

Exorcet, couldn't have said it better myself.

While it may be true that only about 5% of online drivers are worth sharing a track with, there ARE good, clean racers out there, if you have a little patience and follow the steps outlined above. Make sure you have a mic and don't hesitate to add quality room hosts to your friends list, if and when you do find them.

I agree about adding the quality hosts, i've added about 3 and im able to enter very professional and virtually noob-free lobbies :)

Besides making friends with same-level racers you meet online, you should try some of the Championships that are being held through this forum. I think the hosts are doing a very good job organizing them, the variety is great and racing quality is way above average. Thanks to them the GT5 Online Racing community here at GTP is slowly starting to grow. Contribute!
