It seems like lately, in racing games other than GT5, there really hasnt been an option for split-screen. why is that? NFS-Hot Pursuit 2 for the PS2 had it, that was loads of fun. I get the new one for the PS3, no Split screen? F1 2010? Dirt 2? Shift? Grid? Whats with it?

I guess since online multiplayer has become the most popular way to play a game, developers assume we'd rather have online multiplayer than local multiplayer. Personally, I'd prefer we had both although my wife doesn't really enjoy racing against me. :grumpy:

Yeah its a shame but local multiplayer is now a thing of the past and you would be hard pressed to find titles which support it. Only the Wii does it in any substantial way.

I would have thought with the push for 3D, split screen would make its way back. Seeing as the console has to produce 2 images for 3D, it isn't too far removed from the 2 images for creating split screen, or vice versa. I remember the Motorstorm Pacific Rift 3D mode was based upon the split screen built into the game. If a game can do one, it can do the other, puts another bullet point on the back of the box and may sell a few more copies...maybe something we will see as 3D games become more abundant.

Raced gt5 against my dad yesterday, we pick a track, and a car that fits the least with the track, for example the tank car on a kart track. Its one of the only reasons why i still olay gt5

Codemasters' EGO engine has been upgraded with split screen. You'll see it in DiRT 3 and F1 2011.
They also support LAN play 👍 which is missing from many current games :(.

The only problem is the engine and tire sound. You can't really hear your car and the other guy can't hear his car, it's just one big mess of two engine sounds coming out of the same speakers. You can't shift just by the audio. Same with tire screech. FPS games, however, don't suffer from this problem.
