Hello, This is my first post here but i couldnt resist :)

yesterday, after visiting a Lexus off road show (got to test bmw m5 landrover discovery, benz m340? lexus rx330 etc etc) we started to play GT3...

little did we know that it will continue for 5 hours!!

we watched best motoring where this guy drives real life RX-8 and gets time of 1:50"70" on laguna seca.

we started playing arcade > testing > Laguna Seca > choose concept RX-8 from A class and see what times we can get.

i beat the time easily by getting 1:44 on my first try.. even with so many mistakes.

Then my friend beat my time.. and i beat his again.. so on and so on.

after 5 hours.. we got the time down to 1:35!!!

we learned so much about that track, short cuts that we can make and how the cork screw is where u can lose almost a seconds if done correctly.

so, the challenge is. using a stock RX-8 can anyone beat our time?
i tried for over 10 laps but only came close to it by .15 seconds..
(oh the funny thing was, after 100 laps, the engine oil light came on )

ok have fun guys!.

oh yes, any tips on the corkscrew will help alot.

I think people will see the 1:35, and say they got a 1:30 and the next person will claim he got a 1:29 and so on and so on

Welcome To GTPlanet ;)

damn.. that's bad..

cause unless they know some special shortcut.. it will be hard to beat 1:35 by that much.

(just look at times posted for other cars in Laguna seca.. )

anyway hop to see some tips on laguna :)

i wonder if we can somehow upload the replay :D

wow it will be great to race against ghost of a great driver! :D

oops forgot to post a cute picture :)

well my times are from clean laps. but i imagine if someone can beat it with more than 5 seconds, it must have some shortcuts.

i guess no one beat my time yet :)

but any decent driver driving the car 100+ laps on it should get similar times.

i want to know how to get thru the corkscrew fastest.

oh yeah almost forgot .. :)

Hello and welcome :)

Im was wondering about the moggies also ,do they play GT3 also..? :p

Ok I had a few laps ( about 15) at this earlier ...

1'33.157

there's a 1'31 in there for sure ;)

Welcome To GTPlanet ;)

i see that already.. :)

how does one prove their times ?

if that 1'33 is real, with a stock rx-8 in arcade mode, it is amazing :)

You can buy a device called a sharkport or X-port which allows you to upload your replays onto your hard drive, and then you can post the file for others to see, and it is also useful for using your hard drive as a giant memory card too.;)

I'm sure Lotus' time is for real, she's very good. I'm planning on giving this a run as soon as I get my race done for the weekly racing series, I can't resist a Mazda at Laguna Seca.:trouble:

Yes it was using the arcade RX-8 and it's not amazing believe me, there's plenty can go much quicker than I :(

I'll post the replay tomorrow :) or I might just beat it some more first ;) :p

great :) thanx for your input lotus.

can i ask u a question? do u also play Porsche: unleashed on pc?

i had similar experience with it on 95 porsche turbo , this girl named CHEY [xp] beat my time by 10 seconds easily.

sorry to rain on your parade. but i just ran 3 laps and did a 1:35 easy. my first try was a 1:36. i hope i can challenge lotus' time.

dont worry, i think almost everyone came to gtplanet and tried there first time at olr and thought they would waste everybody. myself included. i raced a lot, and got better. i still donot think i am within the top 20 drivers though.

it would be fun to get mr p in here to show us all a lesson. he will break the 1:30s for sure.

i will keep running it and let you know what my times are. if i stumble upon anything that really helps i will let you know.

thank you :)

actually i didnt expect to be the fastest :D of course not.
ive learned my lesson with porsche:unlimited where everyone would beat my best times all the time. i wish i could race against your ghosts, to learn a thing or two.

any tips on how to go fast on corkscrew?

i just did a long session of time trial # 5 after doing your challenge for a few laps. i just realized that is a very good way to learn laguna.

for the cork with the viper i found what i think is a better line than what i normally used. the way i was going without even thinking about it, it was hard to get on the power early because the tail would slide or you would catch air. after comparing two ghosts i saw that there is a line that allows you to get on power early without sliding or anything. its hard to describe, but compared to the old line i would stay wider for the first apex (rather than jumping to inside early), clip it, then hit the second apex. even dropping two wheels off the rumble strip.

i will do more laps specifically in the rx8 later, i will let you know what i think might help.

thank you :) that would definatly help. i will give it a try (the timetrial).

What setup do you guys use for driving?

I use wheels + auto.

I've noticed that the brake bar does not go all the way up during replays, it only goes up about 3/4. Is this normal? should i worry about it? same thing happens even after i calibrate it. I use logitech force btw.

thanx!;)

silver, you are right the wheel only gives you 75% of the brakes and I have read a way to modify this and cure the problem. Ill give you an address that will help get you started on the fix. You might have to search all over this site but i am sure it is thee somewhere. http://www.beepworld3.de/members15/werner71/the_wheel_english.htm

As for your time @ the goon I will try it and give you an honest reply. Out of all the people that are in the M.G.T.R.A
I am usually the fastest so I'll try my best and let you know how fast you are.

I tried the test in the RX-8 and managed 1.38 or so but I was well worried cos Im doin the F1 race series at the mo and cudnt handle the stock RX-8 at all !!! Too used to the mighty F1 !!

and the cats are excellent - really funny !!

1:31.918 in a white arcade car. Think I might have had 3 wheels off at one point. There's definitely a 1:29 if I had a sim car that was stock.

I turned a few laps at the goon before our regular saturday night races with the MGTRA started. I ran a 134 pretty easy with the wheel and auto tranny. Tonight (sun) I sat down with my practice cockpit and wheel and turned quite a few laps using the manual tranny and ended up with a pretty good lap at a 128.311
I over drove a turn or two so I think this could be beat.
Any way here is an honest time by an honest racer.

You are very fast mate  any faster and you might have got the same kind of reply as Mr Kwik got

@Talentless ... I think you should re-itterate the rules in this forum please ;) thanx man :)

seems there´s a lot of need for honesty in here.
i don´t need honesty, i´ll supply a replay to everyone who wants it.:)

and this 1´28, for sure no stock arcade car.
or i have missed a shortcut somewhere.;)

No need mate ;) i think you have proven yourself a good couple of thousand times already
