Couldn't see any threads specifically with my questions answered so here goes;

Does LAN mode in GT4 connect via the Network adapter or the iLink(like GT3)?

If it connects via iLink can you get firewire hubs to connect up multiple PS2s?

How many PS2s can you connect up in GT4?

How long a distance can Firewire cables work over? for example can they cover distances up to 50m like Cat 5 ethernet? as the longest i've seen is 4m :(

Does anyone know of any wireless iLink connectors? Either for connecting 2 PS2s directly or wireless hub to PS2, for connecting multiple PS2s? I know of wireless USB connectors for the PC.

If you have two PS2s with network adapters each connected to a PC, with both PCs on the same LAN, can you play over the LAN either with or without xLink?

Thanks in Advance

:)

Simple answer, no. Totally different hardware is required now. The Firewire is now gone, replaced by a regular PC based ethernet connection.

Interceptor: you missed the point of yogi's question :)

yogi: I think yes.

So you need a "PS2 Network Adapter" or one of the newer PSTwos to play LAN?

That is correct. I’ve be doing some LAN racing with GT4 with two other guys. I have a new PStwo console, with built in Ethernet connection, while the other two guys are running the PS2 console with add-on network adaptors. So yeah what you ponder is correct.

Oops ... sorry! Interceptor <=> :dunce:

I misread his question, what I read was this: "So you need a "PS2 Network Adapter" on one of the newer PSTwos to play LAN?"

Amazing, how one little character can change a whole sentence ...

i got mine for about 22 USD, which is around 40 pounds i guess, and thats when it first came out. i'm sure you can find one on ebay for a bit cheaper. later-

This begs the question...are you guys playing under the same roof through a hub of some sort, or at different locations? What I'm getting at, can anyone see a feasible way of getting a LAN-based online game together with a few friends from around the country (or world)? I know that LAN stands for "Local Area Network", but how local is "Local"?

i think you just entered the realm of xlink, Rezonance.. besides, isn't the max cat5 distance like.. 265 feet or something ? before it starts having trouble ? although i don't know about routers, do they boost the signal again ? later

I've heard the same thing about cat5...wish I knew more about networking. Maybe if the PS2 generated its own IP address. There's gotta be about 10,000 network guys on this forum; can anyone enlighten us?

Thanks for the replys guys.

So Does the network adapter have a standard ethernet connection?

If so can you use a cat5 crossover cable to link 2 PS2s together and a standard 10/100 HUB and cat5 to link 3 or more together?

We are running our LAN through the same hub, in the same room, sitting feet away from each other.
