Laptop. Decision Made.

Congrats indeed! Please buy it from an actual store, or you'll be waiting for years. That's not to say it won't be worth it ;)

Haha, thanks guys. Yes, my parents weren't keen on buying it online, so we'll be heading out to Next Byte in the city to go pick it up sometime in the next week! :)

Be sure to post pics of it when you've got it so I can drool all over it

Oh man, I want a Mac too!

Acer Ferrari 5005 WLMi?
That's what I'm getting in a few months, as it's a car enthusiast's dream. However, you're paying a $500 premium simply because it has a Ferrari badge on it and it has a carbon-fibre inlay...]

EDIT: Didn't see the 'decision made' part of the thread name. Ignore.

Hehe, rest assured that pics are on their way. In the meantime, whilst waiting for my Mac, I've got a couple more questions.
Photoshop, can I use the same disk as I use to install on Windows? Or is there a seperate one for OSX?
Oh, and I'll need to buy a laptop carrybag thing right?
Ooh also, does iChat do the MSN network? If not can someone recommend a client?-

I am pretty sure you need a different disc for Photoshop in OS X.

Question #2 - I would hope you would ;)

Question #3 - There's a program called Adium which is like Trillian or Miranda for Windows. You should look into that.

Probably not. You can't install Windows applications in OS X, so unless both happen to come on the disk... no. You can, however, run bootcamp, install Windows and then install it there. I've never installed Photoshop from a disk, so I don't know.

Yep, you can buy a bag if you're going to be carrying it around. I've got mine in a Crumpler Boomer XL, if you're interested :)

Nope, unfortunately iChat doesn't do anything other than AOL. However, you can install either MSN Messenger for Mac (bleegh) or the excellent Adium (yay!) to handle your MSN conversations :). Go for the latter.

EDIT

Damnit...

I suggest Adium. It's compatible with all the IM's under my status, plus a couple more. It's free too. If you aren't aware of it, the scrolling trackpad is AWESOME. It's very hard to use a laptop without it now. Basically two fingers on the trackpad will scroll down, or horizontally. There's a couple other functions too. 👍

Edit: double tree'd. :grumpy:

Ahhh I see, thanks. I'll just run my Windows copy of PS in BootCamp or Parallels or whatever until I get a Mac version.
On the bag, I'd love something like this , if only it had a shoulder strap!
Thanks for the heads-up on Adium, seems like a good app. I use MSN predominantly, so long as I can do that without too much trouble I'll be happy.
