So, i've been trying to figure this out. For some reason, my laptop has a mind of its own and decides to turn on every night at or around 3AM when put in hibernate mode. I've checked scheduled tasks, but dont see anything that would cause the computer to turn ON from that state.

I'm running Windows Vista on a Compaq laptop.. not sure the exact specs. Maybe someone here can point me in the right direction? Please? :indiff:

It'll be doing a windows update. IIRC its default schedule to check for and download updates is 3am.

But why would it force the computer to turn on? It's really annoying finding that the computer battery is completely dead in the morning because it decides to turn itself on every night. There must be some way to stop it.. no?

Because your laptop is only hibernating, it's not off. Telling it to shut down will stop it coming on in the middle of the night, as will telling it to update at another time, or updating manually at a time to suit you.

You can always change the update settings, my laptop is set to notify me when updates become available, that way I can decide what I'm going to install & when.
