NSX and Elise are both great handlers, but with Seattle's straights, you're gonna need a lot of beef. I don't think either of them has the sauce.

The Camaro SS can go stupids fast for little money, just like IRL - I'd say that's you best bet.
 
New update....Another friend of mine came over and we did a little budget/parts logic/tuning and came up with a pretty good formula for the R-34 Skyline GT-R V-Spec. My new current time is 1:31.05, or within spitting distance of the time to beat. More to come, stay tuned.....
 
I'd go with what Duke said,but make it a z28.Why?Because in my opinion it turns better,still has loads of power and has alot of room for upgrades if you dont refresh the ridgity.

Its only 10 grand cheaper and is way down on power. Due to lack of rigidity, it is probably also much harder to drive.
 
I just wanna say this thread is awesome, unfortunately my brother leaves for school on Friday and we won't be less than 200 miles away but im gonna find a way to try it.

Im gonna take a look and try to come up with some ideas, i would say don't underestimate the R32 Skyline, but i dont know i just drive most of my cars stock. At the 'ring my fastest stock car under 100k is the R34 so thats probably where you should stick, but i gotta try some tuning.

Years ago we did GT4 competitions on another forum. We had one challenge just like this, $100k budget at Seattle.

I won the competition with a Cobra R that I picked up for $28k.

I forgot about the Cerbera. That would be a great car to run. I think they cost between 36,000 and 43,000 depending on the milage.

I guess prize cars could be used. I don't remember seeing anything in their rules. You would have to base them off of their trade value since the sell off value is about 1/4 their worth, and some cars don't have a selling value.
 
I'm not a big fan of the Cerbera. It has the legendary TVR "driver's car" intractability and unpredictability, but unlike the Tuscan or the T350, it also has the world's worst brakes. You need to start slowing for each turn miles out.

I didn't have issues with that.... Turning radius of a Star Destroyer yes, but brakes were okay.

I had to do quite a lot of suspension tweaking to get it to turn.
 
^I wouldn't go that far. it's a good car when you get it right, and it's easier to drive fast than Porsches would, or some american cars are all about low end grunt that leaves them asthmatic at high revs..
 
You might want to try the Lotus Elise. It's a pretty decent car, and weighs less than a feather! With the proper tunings, it can prolly beat the lap time.

When I ran the TVR race at Fuji in my Cerbera, I was the first on the brakes at the end of the front straight, and the last one able to turn in. By a huge margin.
 
Right...

But that may be due to it UNDERSTEERING like a pig and needing less speed carried into the corners.
 
No, I'm saying I had to start braking 50 yards earlier than the AI, and I would still sail past them all before I could even turn in. It didn't matter whether I tried to modulate the brakes or just stood on it. I would start to brake well before they even let off the gas, and I could not get the car to slow down before I cruised past the AI, barely (or not at all) getting slowed down before I went off the end of the track.
 
if prize cars aren't out of question, M3 GT-R should be good enough to wipe the floor with him.

Sounds like he is making headway with the R34 so far.

I would have gone with the stock GTR, not the V-Spec personaly.

You are right tho', the braking performance is bad if you don't get her set up right - anyone remember what the Zonda was like in GT3? Glass tyres on ice?

In real life, the Cerbera has an evil reputation but that's because of the huge power on tap to spin the rears up at will - not a good thing when you can't just quit the race and try again :lol:.

Sadly, it is another example of the bias PD programmed into the game i.e. any non-Japanese car that performs exceptionally in the real world is somewhat nerfed in one way or another in-game. If it's made by Nissan, however ...

You can overcome the handicaps by careful dialing in of the suspension and by driving in full knowledge of what the game will demand. Make use of the sheer straight-line speed for which the car is duly famous and tip-toe through the corners if necessary :D.
 
Prize cars are out, you have to be able to purchase them. I need to drive the skyline more but I am running short on time.

I cant wait till this one is over, because our next one is at the Ring. I dont know what cars yet, but at least I know that track

Hm. I never had braking issues, but that may be because my setup shifted weight noticeably rearward (ballast position 50, 0 ballast) and sat nose-high keeping weight off the fronts under braking to a degree.

My bet is that the fronts get overloaded when the car is using a "normal" suspension setup.
 
I lost the last 2 competitions the last one being at seattle. I was .3 off the time to beat and I couldnt do it. Now heres the next one

400hp cap
$135k budget
Track: Nurburgring
Open tires but if sports tires are used, 5 seconds is deducted from your time
Restricted cars: Miata, Opel Speedster, Any race car or special car, touring cars, Tommy Kiara ZZ-S
Oil and wheels are not included in the budget but wings are.

So any ideas?

BMW M coupe
Volvo Estate
Elise
 
Lotus or M-Coupe. Probably M-Coupe, since it has good/average handling and good power, and it also can reach the mentioned 400bhp cap. Elise will fall short in power (280-300+bhp), but it's a lot lighter.. yet can't keep up on the straights. Volvo.. let's see.. 285bhp, handicapped with massive weight, handles like Titanic, and can win race only if your opponent dies of laughter..💡
 
Should have gone with the Elise. In a stock test that I ran it finished 1st over the other cars that were mentioned.

Give the Elise 190 from used 2 a try this time. Its similar to the Opal, but much more graceful in the corners.

Does Frame refresh count in the budget?

On to the discussion, I tried the M-Coupe and it did a 7:17.xx lap. The funny thing is, awhile ago I did a lap in the Opel Speedster and it was around 7:22. I did the 7:17 on my second lap in the car so I know theres more in it. I think I will be sticking to it, but lets keep the discussion going.
Frame refresh is indeed counted in the budget. I will also be on the lookout for an Elise 190 in the used lot.
The BMW drives effortlessly into the corners, and understeer is very minimal mid corner. Turn in is also amazing. The current mix that I have, turned a better lap than my other M-Coupe with about 80 more horespower
 
For a mere 5-second assessment, definitely go with at least R2 tires. You'll save much more time than it costs you.
