The '86, even with CS tires this thing is still FAR too grippy in my book. That being said;
I took the BRZ and the 86 'Racing' around the 'nurb and had a quick look at there vital statistics, the 86 'Racing' does indeed have harder suspension and a different engine note - like it has a performance exhaust system, even though it's power output is identical to the BRZ, for the record the gearbox is the same.

Now for the surprises. Despite the IDENTICAL power curve, engine rev limiters, and gear ratios the 86 'Racing' is around 1.5/2mph faster on two places on the 'nurb, it also achieves 137mph maxing in 5th gear as opposed to 136mph for the BRZ - very odd.
The 86 'Racing' is significantly slower overall than the stock BRZ. Around the 'nurb where I'm normally consistent to around half a second with these 400-450PP cars, the stock BRZ on CS tires achieved a low 8:20 lap - I BARELY broke the 8:23's with the 86 'Racing'. I believe these two cars DO have entirely equal overall traction but the 86 'Racing' understeers significantly with it's different suspension, and this inability to make the rear do any work means you have less traction available overall.
CONCLUSION. I'm not a fan of either to be honest - they could both use another 50hp. That being said they would provide close racing I'm near certain, but for me they would lack the heart-racing moments where you're on a knife-edge trying to get it to hang on as you're blitzing a qualifying lap. We can also categorically say we can't mix BRZ's with the 86 'Racing' as they perform significantly differently, which means we would have to choose one - and I would go for th BRZ over the 86 'Racing' in this case because it's not so much of a yawn-worthy understeer fest.
