Hi all.
Tonight I finally decided to attempt the 24hr race with a 908 HDI (with stage 1 turbo)
I started on intermediate tires as it was raining and surface water was at 100%.
I quickly got to the front and pulled a gap for 1.30s after 8 laps, on lap 9 I saw the gap had reduced by 4 seconds to 1.26 so I decided to pit for tires only (as I had just over half a tank) After I came out of the pits I was just ahead of the pack (Pescarolo and R10) all seemed fine. Suddenly I was overtaken which I thought was strange as I expected their tires to at their end of life, my lap times were the same as what I was doing when I pulled a gap (1.40-1.43)
It's as if the AI went up a gear and all of a sudden after 1 hour I'm back in 5th and barely able to gap to the front (steady at 1.50). The conditions stayed the same and I even tried full wets but my lap times stayed roughly the same. How was I able to pull such a gap and then have it eaten up? even after the AI's pitstops I was still way behind. I wanted a race but my this was hard! I gave up after 1.40 hrs when I slipped back to 7th.
With the 908 I was spinning the rears alot and it loved to snap oversteer especially in the last sector.
I was thinking for my next attempt to save up for the R10' or the Pescarolo? I have all the Le mans cars except for those two.
Any thoughts?
