Hi all.

Tonight I finally decided to attempt the 24hr race with a 908 HDI (with stage 1 turbo)

I started on intermediate tires as it was raining and surface water was at 100%.

I quickly got to the front and pulled a gap for 1.30s after 8 laps, on lap 9 I saw the gap had reduced by 4 seconds to 1.26 so I decided to pit for tires only (as I had just over half a tank) After I came out of the pits I was just ahead of the pack (Pescarolo and R10) all seemed fine. Suddenly I was overtaken which I thought was strange as I expected their tires to at their end of life, my lap times were the same as what I was doing when I pulled a gap (1.40-1.43)

It's as if the AI went up a gear and all of a sudden after 1 hour I'm back in 5th and barely able to gap to the front (steady at 1.50). The conditions stayed the same and I even tried full wets but my lap times stayed roughly the same. How was I able to pull such a gap and then have it eaten up? even after the AI's pitstops I was still way behind. I wanted a race but my this was hard! I gave up after 1.40 hrs when I slipped back to 7th.

With the 908 I was spinning the rears alot and it loved to snap oversteer especially in the last sector.

I was thinking for my next attempt to save up for the R10' or the Pescarolo? I have all the Le mans cars except for those two.

Any thoughts?

IMO the 908 is faster then the R10, so i would go for the Pescarolo. It's odd that the AI got faster as the race went on, that must be part of 2.0....

The 908 is pretty even with the R10, although both might need a boost in the turbo dept if you're going to go up against Pescarolos or any R8's, those are packing nearly 900hp generally, whereas the R10 and 908 are in the high 600s, low 700s if I remember it right.

My only problem with the 908 is the high beams don't light up the track nearly as well as the 787B or the R10. Personally I don't feel like doing either of the 24 Hour races in a standard car, but the Pescarolo C60 Courage '05 will get the job done for you.

Hi all.

With the 908 I was spinning the rears alot and it loved to snap oversteer especially in the last sector.

Spinning the rear tire and oversteering are good indication that you're not controlling the throttle. I'd suggest using TCS (Traction Control) as an aid especially in wet condition or when you feel you're not controlling the car as well.

In real life because of the high torque coming from most LMP1s, almost all the racers engage TCS as they approach corners/chicane. And Traction Control (mechanical as oppose to software control ala Manettino) is the only driving aid allowed for LMP1 at Le Mans. ABS, for example, is not permitted.

The AI isn't very good at passing so the faster AI cars have been driving behind the slower ones for some time allowing you to build a gap. When they finally get around the slower AI cars they can make those "miraculous" comebacks. :)
