Le Mans intermediate/rain tyre switch

Hello, I was running Le Mans 24H, surface water percentage was at 75%, I decided to pit in and go from intermadiate to rain tyres. To my surprise lap times worsened by far, regardless of the water percentage almost reaching 100%.

So I exited the game and restarted from the pit stop, this time keeping intermediate ones. Again water at almost 100%, but this time I was closing in on the leader.

Is this considered a bug or it's normal that intermediate are better than rain at Le Mans on any kind of wet surface?

Thanks.

The problem with A-Spec is that grip is set to high, not real. This means that the Racing Intermediate and Rain tires don't do as they're supposed to. I think you might be better off simply driving with regular Racing tires.

That said. Your lap times during wet conditions, will never be as good as during dry ones. Intermediates/Rain tires are effective, but they aren't miracle tires. ;)

SO, do you suggest to keep racing tyres even when water is at 100%?!

I'm not sure actually, as it's been a long time since I've driven in rain in A-Spec. I think the Racing tires actually do better in A-Spec, due to the grip not being set to real. It has been confirmed on here that the Intermediates/Rain tires don't give the effect they should(in A-Spec). So I recommend trying some of the regular Racing tires.

I found that wets were fastest from about 65%-100% moisture, then inters between about 25% and 65%... however, it really depends on the car setup as well. Just keep driving until you start to slip.

I usually keep slicks on until around 60 to 75 percent (sometimes later depending on the car), then switch to intermediates until around 90. I then put on my rain tires simply because I'm supposed to, or sometimes keep on intermediates depending on the car again. I noticed when I had my slicks on before with over 90 percent water surface, my tires couldn't grip the pavement at all. My car just wouldn't brake or turn.

Sorry I'm bumping an older thread, but I had a similar experience. I was racing the Nurburgring 24 hours in the Minolta when it started to rain about halfway into the race. I switched to intermediates around the 40% moisture mark and continued on those for a couple laps. When it got around 80%, I switched to rain tires. I ended up spending the lap slipping and sliding all over the place as I had absolutely no grip whatsoever. So I came back in the next lap and put intermediates back on, and the grip was much, much better. I was a full minute faster on intermediates than the rain tires at 100% moisture. I was sort of interested to see if I could run slicks in the rain, but I never did try. I didn't know if it was the car I was using, or just one of those goofy GT5 oddities. I would venture to say that Jawehawk's reasoning was why this happened.

In one of the seasonals at La Sarthe I used Sports Softs from the beginning to the end of the race in a 2J. It depends on the car you are driving though because cars like the Courage's and the Audi's they are really hard on rear tire wear. So try some Sports Softs for a few laps and see how your tire wear is. You will have to be easy in the turns when getting back to full throttle though. Hope this helps.

I have been running the nurburgring 24h event in the Peugeot 908 and it started to rain (I have already won this event, so Im not in it with my heart set on winning I am trying to achieve the most even race I can with the AI) When the rain started I knew Inters were faster than wets by over a minute a lap of the AI so I switched to full wets, the car was slipping and sliding all over, almost undrivable, also the rear tire wear was extremely heavy. I then on my next stop put wets on the front and inters on the rear, I found this gave the car a very nice balance while still forcing me to slow down enough to drive laps comparable to that of the AI. My last stop i exited the pits with 15 seconds on the second place r8 over 6 hours in, Not sure if all other cars will react the same, or even how it will work out on other tracks, if anyone has more input I would love to hear it

In GT5, intermediates are simply faster (gripier) that rain tyres.

With Grip Reduction set to Low, yes. I thought it had been confirmed that it worked properly when using the proper setting? A-Spec forces you to use the easy setting, hence this embarrassing issue seen in the only 24 hour races the game lets you play.
